I have made every payment before the due date. I got on the portal today to pay and they have deactivated my account number so I can’t make a payment online or through the telephone payment option. I keep calling and they will not call me back. Last month they said I didn’t make a payment. When I told him I would send him the receipt and my bank statement of proof, he all the sudden saw in the system that I paid. At first I read the reviews and figured that people were just mad because they had to pay money back. I made my payments with confidence that I would have no issues. I was mistaken.

Worst lawyer ever. She lies so much! She never returns phone calls or emails. You will never hear from her until it is time to pay. Then you will send you letter threatening to take you to court, even though you are current on your payments. She is the absolute worst!! Listen to all the reviews! STAY FROM AWAY FROM THIS CROOK!!!

I had an easy case that almost need nothing to defend. I saw the reviews and should avoid her. But a friend introduced her so I gave it a shot. My purposes was to hire her to deal with court procedures. The initial discussion/interaction was OK and reasonable. But soon she misled the case and she spent much of time to do research without any merits to the case. It was really, really bad and I was extremely upset that I had hired her. Avoid her!

I have hired her again to work with me on my Father's Estate. I have referred many people to her and they have been very happy with her. I highly recommend her to work with as an attorney.

Don't waste your time with this firm. The founder is a CLOWN at best. Former reformed "bible thumper", who's in denial, with a past that is speculative at best. His law degree is online and it took him 20 years to figure out which end is up, meanwhile he will share his biblical experience with you, which is a total sham. Don't waste your time with this CLOWN show.

Mr. Smith seems to have some knowledge of the law but doesn't have much motivation to use it. It takes a bit of, "prodding," to get him to file motions, do any research, ask relevant questions during hearings, etc. After you can get him motivated and interested, he may be of some help to you and your case. Unfortunately, though, sometimes it seems like his mind is made up, whether or not you, his client, is already guilty of the crime. As reviewer Corey says, he does appear to be working with the courts or seems not to want to question steps that the prosecution may be taking towards prosecution of his client. Ultimately, I would recommend trying to find other counsel, if possible. Mr. Smith is usually appointed by the courts as free counsel to defendants that they wish to be poorly represented. It appears that courts that are involved with repeat offenders usually assign him to represent the offender. Another piece of information, that I would like to add, is that Mr. Smith appears to be autistic. He is very awkward in social situations and hesitant to respond to you when speaking with him, such as when discussing your case. He avoids eye contact and has abnormal facial expressions when speaking. If you can get him to relax or once you build up a rapport, he is usually a bit more easy to talk with. I kept him as counsel because I did not have sufficient funds to be able to hire a different attorney. I was hoping that maybe he would be like the character, Shaun Murphy from the television series, The Good Doctor, and have a miracle plan of action. Unfortunately, this was not the case.

I hired Ronald Grimm to represent me in a divorce case. This turned out to be a horrible decision on my part. From the onset, I had informed Ronald Grimm of things that could be detrimental to my case to which his response was it doesn’t matter. Michigan is a no-fault state. I initially breathed a sigh of relief hearing this information. As things progressed, I felt a bit uneasy about the way things were being handled. There was a hearing scheduled for which I was to email him certain documents. After emailing them to him, I called him to confirm that he received them to which he replied yes. The very next day, he showed up at court without the documents claiming they didn’t all come through however, he had just told me the day before he had received them. I was given a set of interrogatories to complete by the opposing attorney. There were some questions I felt uncomfortable with answering. He instructed me not to answer the questions. I found out later through another attorney that the best way to handle this was for him to object to the questions. So naturally, at the advice of my counsel, I did not answer the questions I was uncomfortable with. He never prepared a set of interrogatories for the plaintiff to complete. Till this day I don’t know why he didn’t. Fast forward to the day of mediation. He was given the complaint from opposing attorney. After reading it, he stated he can no longer represent me because I didn’t tell him certain facts about the case. Those things he claimed I didn’t tell him were the first things out of my mouth at our initial meeting. He then states I perjured myself with some of my answers to which I replied, no. I didn’t answer the questions because you told me not to. I guess I should have noticed the red flags from the beginning because this guy doesn’t even have an office where he meets his clients. He meets his clients at McDonalds or Burger King and discusses the case in the open for all to hear. He’ll take your money and tell you what you want to hear in the beginning, but in my case, he did a horrible job of representing me and then bailed on me. I recommend, based on my experience with this attorney that you DO NOT HIRE HIM TO REPRESENT YOU!

I hired Ron Grimm to represent me in my divorce proceedings. I was told that the paperwork would be filed right away, as there was a need for urgency. After 2 weeks of being told that he was waiting to hear back from the process server, I called my local courthouse to inquire as to where the paperwork was in the process. It was then that I learned that Mr. Grimm had not actually filed the divorce at all. I contacted him immediately and asked him to return my retainer fee, as I had paid him $1500 up front. It has now been a week, and I have not seen my money. Mr. Grimm has done nothing but provide excuses and lies. I will be calling the local police as well to report him for fraudulent business practices. DO NOT HIRE THIS MAN!!!

Misrepresentation had occurred as this attorney just threw the report together at the last minute without using due diligence. Do not hire.

I hired this lawyer for a driver license restoration. After I hired this him, he announced me that he'll travel out of country for a month..... He didn't tell me about that trip before, probably he didn't want to lose the money! Than, when he returned, Bozimowski asked me to postpone the Appeal for another 6 months. I was amazed by his guts, and I fired him. I hired another lawyer and got back my driver license privileges. I wouldn't hire Bozimowski not even he'll do that for free. I asked him once to exchange messages and documents by email. He wouldn't send you any emails, because "that stuff can be used against one's" . That's a proof of his character right there! Look for a lawyer in another place! Also, look for him in Facebook and you'll find what kind of human being is this individual!

Mr. Fahrner may have been a good attorney at one time but be is not helpful once he draws up your documents! He prepared my parents documents and rarely returned my calls or emails. Twice when I contacted him for questions he would ask me if I could call him back because “he was on vacation” or because he “had a call in few minutes”. That seems pretty arrogant to me! He always seemed bothered when I would ask for clarification on documents. If you have clients and can’t help them at that time it seems the proper action is to take a message and call your client back! I think he’s retired and will only help you if he feels like it. Save yourself the fees and hassles, get a better attorney!

It was my experience that Ms. Underwood presumes that her clients are not as intelligent as she believes she is and therefore tries to get as much money from them as she can while doing the least amount of work. As the Attorney for our father’s estate, my sisters and I found her to be unresponsive to our many requests for accounting and supporting documentation causing us to seek new counsel. We would recommend you hire an attorney who will put any and all assets of your loved one in an interest bearing trust account, which Ms. Underwood did not do for us. As a result, a lot of money was lost and we felt we were grossly overcharged for her representation (or should I say “misrepresentation”).

Do NOT use this person. (Notice I did not say lawyer). He quoted a rate and timeframe. Both have doubled at this time. We are firing him, one of many reasons including the previous comment are, documents that have been typed with the wrong names, miss spellings... After addressing the situation to his office, the tried to advise that the documents provided to him by us is what was causing the issues. We have told him facts that needs to be addressed but he claims we never provided the information to him but it when he finally submitted paperwork, he had the information all along. I hired Mr. Brott on the recommendation of a good friend. Huge mistake. I had returned to the area and needed to file a motion for 50/50 custody. He missed the filing deadline! My ex's attorney moved to have his response thrown out which the Referee agreed to do so all that was left was to discuss visitation. I was furious. I confronted him and he said he did still want to represent me so we went to mediation. Where he might as well not even been present. Most painful of all I lost time with my children that I will never get back. I wasted my money which he forced me to pay by sending to collections the cost was close to $8,000. the thought of which makes me ill.

What a Probate Lawyer Can Do for You

A probate lawyer assists with the legal process of administering a deceased person’s estate. This often involves guiding executors (if a will exists) or beneficiaries (if no will exists) through the probate process to settle the estate according to the deceased’s wishes or applicable laws. Probate lawyers can help validate the will, distribute assets, resolve disputes among heirs, handle outstanding debts or taxes, and ensure the estate is legally and efficiently administered.

Whether you’re an executor of an estate or an heir facing probate proceedings, a probate lawyer can help you navigate the often-complex legal process to ensure the estate is settled correctly.

When Should I Hire a Probate Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a probate lawyer when you are responsible for managing the estate of a deceased individual, especially in the following situations:

  • The estate has substantial assets: If the estate includes significant assets like real estate, investments, or business interests, legal assistance is often necessary to handle the distribution properly.
  • The will is being contested: If there are disputes among heirs regarding the validity of the will or the division of assets, a probate lawyer can help resolve the conflict.
  • The estate includes complex or unclear provisions: If the will contains complicated instructions or there are no clear beneficiaries, a lawyer can ensure that the estate is administered according to legal requirements.
  • There is no will (intestate estate): When a person dies without a will, the estate is subject to intestacy laws, which determine how assets are distributed. A probate lawyer can help navigate this process.
  • Debt or tax issues exist: If the estate owes significant debts or is subject to estate taxes, a probate lawyer can help ensure debts are paid appropriately and taxes are minimized.
  • Probate disputes: If family members or other parties are disputing the distribution of assets or challenging the executor's actions, legal representation is crucial to defending your rights and ensuring the estate is handled properly.

Hiring a probate lawyer early in the process can help avoid costly mistakes and ensure the estate is settled efficiently.

What Does a Probate Lawyer Do?

A probate lawyer provides a wide range of legal services to help manage and settle an estate. Their tasks can include:

  • Validating the will: Filing the will with the probate court and ensuring its legal validity.
  • Guiding executors or administrators: Advising the person responsible for managing the estate on their duties, including inventorying assets, notifying creditors, and paying debts.
  • Filing necessary paperwork: Preparing and submitting the legal documents required to initiate and complete the probate process.
  • Resolving disputes: Mediating or litigating disputes among heirs or between beneficiaries and executors, including challenges to the will or disagreements over asset distribution.
  • Handling debt and tax matters: Ensuring that outstanding debts, taxes, and estate taxes are properly calculated and paid from the estate’s assets.
  • Distributing assets: Ensuring that assets are distributed to the beneficiaries according to the will or intestacy laws, and that all legal requirements are fulfilled.
  • Closing the estate: Completing the final steps of the probate process, including filing a final accounting with the court and formally closing the estate.

How Are Probate Lawyers Paid?

Probate lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the estate and the nature of the legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Most probate lawyers charge by the hour, with rates depending on the lawyer’s experience and the complexity of the estate. Hourly rates can range from $150 to $500 or more.
  • Flat fee: For simple estates or straightforward probate tasks, some lawyers may charge a flat fee that covers all of the necessary legal work.
  • Percentage of the estate: In some states, probate lawyers are allowed to charge a percentage of the estate's value as their fee. This percentage typically ranges from 2% to 5%, depending on the size of the estate and state regulations.
  • Retainer fee: Some lawyers may require an upfront retainer fee, which is billed against as the probate process progresses.

It’s important to clarify the fee structure during your initial consultation to understand how you will be charged and avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does a Probate Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a probate lawyer depends on several factors, including the complexity of the estate, the type of legal issues involved, and the lawyer’s fee structure. General cost estimates include:

  • Simple estates: For estates with straightforward assets and no disputes, probate legal fees can range from $2,500 to $10,000, depending on the lawyer's fees and the state's probate laws.
  • Complex estates: For larger or more complicated estates with multiple properties, business interests, or disputes, probate costs can exceed $10,000 and may reach $20,000 or more.
  • Hourly rates: If charged by the hour, expect rates between $150 and $500, depending on the lawyer’s expertise and geographic location.
  • Percentage fees: In some cases, a probate lawyer may charge 2% to 5% of the estate’s value, particularly for larger estates or those involving complex legal matters.

Always ask for a clear estimate of fees during your initial consultation to understand the total cost of probate representation.

Top Questions to Ask a Probate Lawyer

Before hiring a probate lawyer, it’s essential to ask the right questions to ensure you’re hiring someone qualified to handle your estate needs. Key questions include:

  1. What experience do you have with probate cases like mine?
Ensure the lawyer has experience with estates of similar complexity, especially if disputes or high-value assets are involved.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Ask whether the lawyer charges an hourly rate, a flat fee, or a percentage of the estate, and request a cost estimate.
  3. What is the likely timeline for my probate case?
While it’s hard to predict exactly, an experienced lawyer can give you a general idea of how long the probate process may take based on the specifics of your estate.
  4. What steps will you take to manage and distribute the estate?
Ask about the lawyer’s approach to handling debts, taxes, and asset distribution.
  5. Will you be handling my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle some aspects of your case, so it’s important to know who will be working on your probate case.
  6. What are potential challenges we may face?
A good lawyer will be able to anticipate possible issues, such as will contests or creditor claims, and explain how they would handle them.

How to Check the Credibility of a Probate Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a reputable probate lawyer, follow these steps to check their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their state bar status: Check with your state’s bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no history of disciplinary action.
  • Look for probate experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in probate law and have experience handling estates of similar complexity.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for online reviews on platforms like Avvo or Martindale-Hubbell to see what past clients have said about the lawyer’s probate experience.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who can vouch for their professionalism and expertise in handling probate matters.
  • Look for membership in professional organizations: Membership in organizations like the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys (AAEPA) or the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) can indicate a lawyer's commitment to estate and probate law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with a probate lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • A copy of the will or trust (if applicable): Bring any estate planning documents left by the deceased, including wills, trusts, or powers of attorney.
  • List of assets and debts: Prepare a detailed list of the deceased’s assets (e.g., real estate, bank accounts, investments) and outstanding debts (e.g., loans, mortgages, credit cards).
  • Death certificate: Bring a certified copy of the deceased person’s death certificate.
  • Contact information for heirs and beneficiaries: Have a list of all individuals or entities named in the will or who are entitled to inherit under intestacy laws.
  • Questions about the probate process: Write down any questions you have about the process, costs, and potential issues you might face.
  • Relevant financial records: If available, bring any relevant financial documents, such as bank statements, property deeds, and tax returns.

By coming prepared, you can ensure a productive consultation and allow the lawyer to provide the best advice for your situation.
