I will forever be grateful that I chose the right firm for my Roundup case. From the first phone call until the verdict, I have always felt so comfortable and respected by everyone I worked with from the firm. I was represented by people who truly care about their clients and their needs and feelings. I wish there was an option to give them 1000 stars on here! They are now much more than my attorneys... I am blessed to call them my friends!

To state that my experience with this attorney was wonderful is an understatement. Mr Gilliam is a no-B.S. kind of attorney, meaning that he cuts right to the chase, and then chases down the win! I'd put my life in his hands again if the universe ever leads me into another situation where his expertise is required, although unlikely! If your case needs his chase, this man is your gold metal runner!

I am a former client of Ngwolo and Associates and I have mixed feelings regarding this firm. Granted, while Mr. Ngwolo was able to have my case dismissed (I was the victim of a corrupt, stupid, and incompetent police office who cited me with a bogus charge almost a year ago. I was physically attacked by a violent lunatic that lived at the same residence as me. I defended myself and called the police. Again, the stupid, biased, and ignorant officer that arrived on the scene cited me instead of the perpetrator), he failed in every other aspect of our attorney client relationship... I'll just give you the pros and cons... Pros 1. He was able to get the bogus charge dismissed. Up until this happened (please see above) I had no criminal background other than a parking ticket when I was a teenager. Anyway, it literally took less than 15 minutes to have the entire case dismissed. I appreciated his due diligence in that regard. He did what I hired him to do... However, everything else was subpar and below standard... Cons 1. My attorney showed up nearly TWO HOURS late to my court hearing. I am not kidding. I got the impression, from day one, that he never took my case seriously given that it was a Class C misdemeanor. I get that it was not a big deal in comparison to the criminal cases he usually deals with; but this was major to me. I have been a law abiding citizen and I have a career where my good name and reputation are paramount. Having even a misdemeanor could impact me negatively... Yet he showed up almost two hours late to my first court appearance. And of course my case happened to be the first case on the docket. I texted his office a million times and could not get in contact with him...just his poor paralegal trying his best to comfort a client who is distraught because of his counsel's unprofessionalism. He finally showed up and didn't so much as even apologize. 2. It was impossible to get in contact with him, absolutely impossible! The only time I ever spoke to Mr. Ngwolo was when I hired him and at the hearing. Otherwise, getting a response from him for much needed questions was like pulling teeth from a dragon skull. I know that attorneys have other clients and are busy. But if I am paying you a retainer fee you owe me atleast a once a month conversation. 3. I finally severed my relationship with him five months ago for consistently being MIA. I hired him with the intent of dismissing the case AND expunging it from my record. Once the case was dismissed I received radio silence. Needless to say I fired him. And from that point I had to hound him for months to send me a refund for the remainder that he owed me. I finally got it a week ago. Moreover, he tried to use the excuse that expunction is a very long process. Apparently not since I had the case expunged recently, by myself. Anyway, he is a good lawyer and knows his stuff, I will say that. However, given my experience, I would not recommend.

I cannot thank Lindsey enough for making the divorce process as stress-free and efficient as possible. After dealing with a previous attorney who mismanaged my case, Lindsey stepped in and completely turned things around. She was responsive and completely transparent throughout the process. I was referred to a friend who happened to be in the same cell block as me. I called him from jail collect on Xmas night around dinner time and HE ACTUALLY ACCEPTED. I hired him although my court date wasn't until the 1st week in Feb. He went to my court room and talked to the district attorney of my court and secured a deal. And this was the first week of Jan.. He came to see me and asked if I'd accept the deal. I was looking at 5yrs TDC. Now the deal he got was for time served if I signed on my court date in Feb. I SAID HELL YEAH. Now when my court date arrived my cell block was on quarantine for covid and I wasn't allowed to attend. But that didn't stop Paul. I called him and told him and he said don't worry. He got me a PR Bo d so that I was released the day I should have been with a court date to o my come and sign my papers But bad luck still tried to beat us, pretrial never came that night to release me. That still didn't stop Paul even though he was in Brazoria County and I was in Harris. All of a sudden I was called out for court. When I got to court pretrial was there with my bond papers to sign. But when I signed them the bailiff said I was getting a dbl. Whammy today. There was a phone and a stack of papers on a desk. I picked up the phone and Paul who was at the Brazoria courthouse walked me through each one as I signed them. Then I was escorted into the courtroom and it was only me, the bailiff, and the court coordinator. All of a sudden Paul (in brazoria) appeared on a screen via Zoom as did the Judge (from home). And there I accepted my plea agreement. Now I was wondering why I still signed my pr bond papers if I signed for my plea. Well it normally takes them until the middle of the night to release you after court but by the time I got back to housing , releasing had already been calling for me. Needless to say I was released within 2 hours of returning from court. Paul gets things done. And he keeps his promises. IF YOURE EVER IN A BIND CALL PAUL MORGAN. HE WONT LET YOU DOWN.

What a Sex Crime Lawyer Can Do for You

A sex crime lawyer specializes in defending individuals accused of sexual offenses, which can include charges such as sexual assault, rape, indecent exposure, child pornography, solicitation, and other related crimes. Being charged with a sex crime carries severe legal and social consequences, including potential imprisonment, mandatory registration as a sex offender, fines, and long-term stigma. A sex crime lawyer has the expertise to navigate the complex legal system, protect your rights, and develop a strategic defense to achieve the best possible outcome for your case.

When Should I Hire a Sex Crime Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a sex crime lawyer immediately if:

  • You are under investigation: If law enforcement contacts you for questioning or you become aware that you are a suspect in a sex crime investigation, it's crucial to seek legal representation before speaking with authorities.
  • You have been arrested or charged: Promptly hiring a lawyer upon arrest or formal charges allows for early intervention in your case, which can be critical for your defense.
  • Searches and seizures have occurred: If your property, such as your home or electronic devices, has been searched or seized in connection with a sex crime investigation, a lawyer can help protect your rights.
  • You are facing related legal issues: If you're dealing with restraining orders, custody disputes, or other legal matters stemming from the allegations, a lawyer can provide comprehensive legal support.

What Does a Sex Crime Lawyer Do?

A sex crime lawyer provides a range of legal services to defend and support you throughout the legal process:

  • Legal consultation and advice: They will explain the charges against you, outline your rights, and advise you on the best course of action.
  • Case investigation: The lawyer will conduct a thorough investigation, gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and identifying inconsistencies or weaknesses in the prosecution's case.
  • Defense strategy development: They will develop a tailored defense strategy, which may include challenging the credibility of evidence, disputing the legality of how evidence was obtained, or presenting alternative explanations.
  • Negotiating with prosecutors: Your lawyer can negotiate plea bargains or reduced charges when appropriate, aiming to minimize potential penalties.
  • Court representation: They will represent you in all court proceedings, including hearings, trials, and sentencing, advocating on your behalf.
  • Protecting your rights: The lawyer ensures that your constitutional rights are upheld throughout the legal process, including protection against unlawful searches, coerced confessions, or violations of due process.
  • Post-trial assistance: If necessary, they can assist with appeals, sentence modifications, or matters related to sex offender registration.

How Are Sex Crime Lawyers Paid?

Sex crime lawyers typically charge for their services in one of the following ways:

  • Hourly rate: Charging an hourly fee for the time spent working on your case. Rates can vary widely based on the lawyer's experience and location.
  • Flat fee: A set amount that covers specific services or the entirety of your case, which can provide cost predictability.
  • Retainer fee: An upfront payment from which the lawyer deducts hourly fees and expenses as they work on your case. You may need to replenish the retainer if it is exhausted.
  • Payment plans: Some lawyers offer payment arrangements to make their services more affordable over time.

It's important to discuss payment structures and fees during your initial consultation to understand the financial commitment involved.

How Much Does a Sex Crime Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a sex crime lawyer depends on various factors, including the complexity of the case, the severity of the charges, and the lawyer's experience. General cost estimates are:

  • Hourly rates: Typically range from $200 to $500 or more per hour.
  • Flat fees: For less complex cases, flat fees might range from $5,000 to $25,000.
  • Total costs: Complex cases involving extensive investigation or a trial can cost $25,000 to $100,000 or more.
  • Additional costs: May include expert witness fees, investigative expenses, and court fees.

Always request a detailed fee agreement and discuss potential additional costs to avoid unexpected expenses.

Top Questions to Ask a Sex Crime Lawyer

Ensure the lawyer has a strong background in defending against the specific charges you are facing.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?

Learn about the strategies they might employ and how they plan to handle your defense.
  5. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates and availability.

Understand the challenges you may face and how the lawyer plans to address them.
  7. How long do you expect the legal process to take?
Get an estimated timeline based on the specifics of your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Sex Crime Lawyer

  • Verify their license: Ensure the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state's bar association.
  • Experience and specialization: Look for a lawyer who specializes in criminal defense with a focus on sex crime cases.
  • Client reviews and testimonials: Research online reviews or ask for references to learn about other clients' experiences.
  • Professional memberships: Membership in organizations like the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) can indicate a commitment to the field.
  • Disciplinary record: Check for any past disciplinary actions or complaints filed against the lawyer.
  • Consultation feedback: Use the initial consultation to assess their communication style, professionalism, and confidence in handling your case.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a sex crime lawyer, bring the following:

  • Detailed account of events: Write down everything you remember about the incident, including dates, times, locations, and any conversations.
  • Legal documents: Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Arrest records
    • Charging documents
    • Bail paperwork
    • Search warrants
    • Any correspondence from law enforcement or the court
  • Witness information: Provide names and contact information of any potential witnesses who can support your defense.
  • Evidence: Bring any physical evidence or records that may be relevant, such as emails, text messages, or social media interactions.
  • List of questions: Prepare questions about your case, the legal process, and the lawyer's experience.
  • Honesty: Be prepared to discuss all details openly and honestly; attorney-client privilege ensures confidentiality.
  • Goals and objectives: Be clear about what you hope to achieve, whether it's dismissing charges, reducing penalties, or addressing registration as a sex offender.

By being thoroughly prepared, you enable the lawyer to assess your situation effectively and provide the best possible legal advice tailored to your case.
