My settlement check arrived today and I will be eternally grateful to The Law Office of Leah Durant, her associates and staff for the efficient way they handled my case. I would like to commend them for keeping me informed and making me aware of any new information. Anytime I talked to anyone in their office they were professional, pleasant, helpful, informative and made me feel valued. As soon as the case was closed and the settlement was made available to them, they immediately sent it to me. I would highly recommend them as they made everything easy and got results beyond my expectations.

Leah and her staff are amazing at what they do! This is not the sort of injury you would give to a typical injury lawyer. They walked me through the process and kept me informed the entire way, best of all the entire award for my injury was all mine! the government pays the attorney fees directly. I would highly recommend Leah's firm to anyone who is unfortunate enough to get a vaccine injury! They will make the process easiest part of the injury.

Absolute five star representation. I’m a personal injury and wrongful death litigator based in NYC. When a lifelong friend was badly injured in D.C., I was anxious about where to send her. A colleague recommended Trombly & Singer and I couldn’t be happier that she decided to go with them. Dan Singer did an incredible job for my friend and obtained a recovery exponentially higher than I anticipated. He was quick to answer emails and kept me apprised throughout the years-long process. If I ever need to refer another case to a D.C. lawyer, I won’t hesitate to call him immediately.

After a serious injury, I was referred to Trombly and Singer and couldn’t be happier with their services. I wasn’t in a place to advocate for myself. Dan Singer was fortunately an amazing advocate on my behalf during a tough couple of years. He is a skilled attorney and the outcome was better than I could’ve expected. I’m very grateful for his hard work and dedication.

I approached Edgar because I needed some assistance settling debts from an old business. He was referred from another professional that I had worked with in the past. I did not want to contact my previous business partner directly so I had Edgar act as the intermediary. He successfully negotiated with the creditors and my ex-partner for a resolution that was very amicable to me. The rate charged by McCree Ndjatou was fair for services provided. I would highly recommend Edgar and his firm for legal advice and counsel regarding corporate and employment law matters.

Edgar Ndjatou is a phenomenal attorney! I approached Mr. Ndjatou because after I was unfairly terminated from my job, my former employer presented me with a severance package. I wanted to ensure that my rights were protected and that my former employer did not take advantage of me. Mr. Ndjatou helped me by patiently listening to my concerns while providing concrete and logical action items. As a result, we achieved a favorable outcome in negotiating a severance agreement that was more fair to me. I would recommend Mr. Ndjatou without any reservation because he is hardworking, honest, and trustworthy. I am forever grateful for his services. What I enjoyed about working with Mr. Ndjatou was his professionalism, knowledge, and thoroughness. Having Mr. Ndjatou as my attorney gave me peace of mind throughout a very stressful process.

Mr. Hartnett is by far one of the best I’ve used( I have used estate attorneys, real estate attorneys and civil attorneys in my life, but he is so client focused. He is easy to talk to. Doug is detailed oriented, he examines the issue with a microscope so the responses presented are very well researched. He keeps his clients in the loop during each step of the process. I must enjoyed working with him!

Douglass Hartnett is a phenomenal attorney! He was able to take my summary of events and turn them into a concise Prehearing Statement. He was sharp-witted throughout the entire process. Douglass’ keen knowledge of the law was extraordinary. One man opposed the discriminatory actions of an Agency that employed 5000 people and was victorious. I was comfortable at every telephone conference and hearing because Douglass was standing beside me. I followed his advice because I trusted him. Ultimately, we prevailed in the case. I was reinstated to my 6 figure salary with benefits and backpay. This was the best money I’ve ever spent. With Gratitude, Estelle

I cannot say enough good things about this firm. They are not cheap, but I have always believed that it does not matter what a person pays for a given thing, as long as the money spent is worth it. Conor Dirks was the senior attorney throughout my issue. He was concise, candid and accurate. There were no surprises on billing. Conor briefed me on what he saw was a likely outcome, what he and his staff could do to help me, and let me make the choice. Throughout it all, Conor or his staff were in contact with me when necessary and they were always available to answer my questions. Mr. Pitts-Wiley accepted my case despite the fact that he only had two weeks to prepare and go before AJ. I thought my case was a sure win, because of the facts and evidence presented during EEO investigation. So I didn't think I needed a lawyer. Due to experience and expertise in Federal law, more specifically whistleblower retaliation and wrongful termination, Mr. Pitts-Wiley advised against an EEO appeal. He has genuine concern and care for me as his client. He has been my voice of reason and logic and prevented me from making decisions and choices based on my emotional state that would have resulted in a significant amount of additional unnecessary lawyer fees. I was mad at first because I wanted what I wanted. He was quite clear and a matter of fact that what I WANTED was not in my best interests at that time.... It validates my rating of excellent because he was doing what was in my best interest emotionally as well as financially. He could have filed an initial appeal and padded his pockets based on my emotional state. But he went above and beyond to fully explain why an appeal would not be advantageous at THAT TIME. While waiting for my Agency to make a decision on my proposed removal Mr. Pitts-Wiley would check in to see how I was doing. This speaks volumes and further validates my 5 star rating. Two years later.... Mr. Pitts-Wiley's knowledge, professionalism, experience and dedication is beyond reproach. I've never felt so confident about my case than I do Now... two years later. It is more than evident that he was a God send and that having him and his team represent was the best decision ever. He has been extremely transparent regarding the possible outcomes, however just based on his actions in what I would consider minute details is proving to monumental in my case. His level of transparency, professionalism, dedication and compassion, makes me want to go back to school so I can help others as he and his team has guided me through this process! I'm excited for the outcome.

Bryan Chapman failed to adequately file my case in U.S. District Court and completely failed to represent me during court proceedings. I doubt very seriously if he passed the bar exams. Very disappointing experience. Mr Key was very clear about his intention for the trial, including obtaining body cam, dashcam, and CCTV footage. Although the trial was put on hold due to the pandemic, at no point did Mr Key over the course a year and half ever request or even watch any of footage he himself claimed to have wanted. Mr Key is a also a poor communicator. I, for example, only found out the first court date had been postponed because i had reached out to him the day before to find out where we'd be meeting. Mr Key will also take weeks (if ever) to reply to emails. It got to a point where I would have to email him multiple times and ultimately call in order to obtain a response from him. To my point, I am currently waiting on a reply to an email I sent him two weeks ago.

Mr Key represented me for two DUI's and an assault charge. All serious charges that, left in a novice's hands, would have most likely yield a HEFTY fine and/or jailtime. Mr Key worked his magic in the court room and behind the scenes to get all of the cases DISMISSED!!!! The judges and prosecutions respect and regard for Mr Key's presence is immediately apparent. His aggressive, direct, and straightforward demeanor in the courtroom is a prosecutor's worst nightmare!! I highly recommend Mr Key!

What a Sexual Harassment Lawyer Can Do for You

A sexual harassment lawyer specializes in representing individuals who have experienced unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, or other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature that affects their employment or creates a hostile work environment. These lawyers help victims understand their rights under federal and state laws, such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, and guide them through the process of filing complaints, negotiating settlements, or pursuing litigation. They also assist employers in implementing anti-harassment policies, conducting investigations, and defending against claims.

Whether you're an employee facing harassment or an employer seeking to address or prevent harassment claims, a sexual harassment lawyer can provide the legal expertise needed to navigate these sensitive issues.

When Should I Hire a Sexual Harassment Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a sexual harassment lawyer in the following situations:

  • For Employees:
    • Experiencing workplace harassment: If you are subjected to unwelcome sexual advances, comments, or behavior that creates a hostile or offensive work environment, a lawyer can help you understand your rights and the steps to take.
    • Retaliation for reporting harassment: If you've reported harassment to your employer and are facing retaliation such as demotion, termination, or other adverse actions, a lawyer can help protect your rights.
    • Failure of employer to address complaints: If your employer does not take appropriate action after you've reported harassment, a lawyer can advise on how to escalate the matter legally.
    • Constructive dismissal: If the harassment is so severe that you feel forced to resign, a lawyer can help you pursue a claim for constructive dismissal.
    • Negotiating settlements: If you're considering a settlement with your employer, a lawyer can negotiate on your behalf to ensure you receive fair compensation.
  • For Employers:
    • Receiving a harassment complaint: If an employee has filed a harassment complaint, a lawyer can guide you through the legal obligations for investigating and addressing the complaint.
    • Implementing anti-harassment policies: A lawyer can help you develop and implement policies and training programs to prevent harassment and protect your organization legally.
    • Defending against claims: If your organization is facing a harassment lawsuit, a lawyer can represent you in court or during settlement negotiations.

Hiring a lawyer early can help ensure that your rights are protected and that you take the appropriate legal steps.

What Does a Sexual Harassment Lawyer Do?

A sexual harassment lawyer provides various legal services depending on whether they represent the employee or the employer. Their responsibilities often include:

  • For Employees:
    • Legal consultation: Provide advice on your rights and the merits of your case, helping you understand the legal definitions of harassment and applicable laws.
    • Filing complaints: Assist in filing a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) or state agencies, ensuring that all procedural requirements are met.
    • Negotiating settlements: Engage in negotiations with the employer to secure compensation for damages such as lost wages, emotional distress, or punitive damages.
    • Litigation: Represent you in court if a lawsuit is filed, presenting evidence, questioning witnesses, and making legal arguments to support your case.
    • Protection against retaliation: Advise on how to handle retaliation from your employer and take legal action if necessary.
  • For Employers:
    • Policy development: Help create comprehensive anti-harassment policies and training programs to prevent harassment in the workplace.
    • Internal investigations: Guide the investigation process when a complaint is made, ensuring it is thorough, impartial, and compliant with legal standards.
    • Legal defense: Represent the company in responding to EEOC complaints or lawsuits, aiming to resolve the matter efficiently and protect the organization's interests.
    • Compliance advice: Keep the company informed about changes in employment laws related to harassment and recommend best practices to maintain compliance.

How Are Sexual Harassment Lawyers Paid?

Sexual harassment lawyers typically charge for their services in various ways, depending on the nature of the case and representation:

  • For Employees:
    • Contingency fee: Many lawyers represent employees on a contingency fee basis, meaning they only get paid if they win or settle the case. The fee is usually a percentage of the recovered amount, typically ranging from 25% to 40%.
    • Hourly rate: Some lawyers may charge an hourly rate, especially if the case is unlikely to result in monetary compensation but still requires legal assistance.
  • For Employers:
    • Hourly rate: Lawyers representing employers usually charge by the hour, with rates ranging from $200 to $600 or more, depending on their experience and the case complexity.
    • Retainer: Employers may pay a retainer fee for ongoing legal services, especially if they require regular legal counsel on employment matters.

It's important to discuss fees during the initial consultation to understand the cost structure and any additional expenses.

How Much Does a Sexual Harassment Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a sexual harassment lawyer varies based on several factors:

  • For Employees:
    • Contingency fees: If working on a contingency basis, you typically won't pay any upfront fees. If you win or settle, the lawyer's fee will be a percentage of the compensation. For example, if you settle for $50,000 with a 30% contingency fee, the lawyer would receive $15,000.
    • Hourly rates: If charged hourly, fees can range from $200 to $600 per hour. Total costs depend on the number of hours worked.
  • For Employers:
    • Hourly rates: Legal fees can range from $200 to $600 per hour. A straightforward case might cost between $5,000 and $20,000, while more complex litigation could exceed $50,000.
    • Retainer fees: Ongoing legal services may require a retainer ranging from $5,000 to $25,000 or more, depending on the anticipated legal work.

Always request a detailed fee agreement to understand all potential costs.

Top Questions to Ask a Sexual Harassment Lawyer

Before hiring a sexual harassment lawyer, consider asking the following questions:

  1. What experience do you have with sexual harassment cases?
Ensure the lawyer has a strong background in handling cases similar to yours.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Understand the fee structure, including contingency fees, hourly rates, and any additional costs.
  3. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Get an honest assessment to set realistic expectations.
  4. What is the likely timeline for my case?
Ask how long the process might take, from filing a complaint to resolution.
  5. Will my case go to trial?
Discuss the likelihood of settling versus going to court.
  6. How involved will I need to be?
Understand what will be required of you throughout the process.
  7. What outcomes can I expect?
Discuss potential remedies, such as compensation, policy changes, or reinstatement.

How to Check the Credibility of a Sexual Harassment Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable lawyer:

  • Verify their license: Check with your state bar association to confirm they are licensed and in good standing.
  • Review their experience: Look for lawyers who specialize in employment law, particularly sexual harassment cases.
  • Read client reviews: Check online reviews and testimonials on platforms like Avvo or Martindale-Hubbell.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should provide references from past clients.
  • Professional memberships: Membership in organizations like the National Employment Lawyers Association (NELA) can indicate a focus on employment law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting:

  • Detailed account: Prepare a written timeline of incidents, including dates, locations, and individuals involved.
  • Documentation: Bring any relevant documents, such as emails, text messages, voicemails, photographs, or witness statements.
  • Employment records: Provide your employment contract, employee handbook, performance reviews, and any prior complaints filed.
  • Questions: Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  • List of witnesses: Note any colleagues or individuals who may have witnessed the harassment or can support your claims.

Being well-prepared will help the lawyer assess your case effectively and provide accurate legal advice.
