I have had a great experience with my attorney John Kuhnlein. John has been a total professional as we have worked through this process. His advice regarding the Social Security issues involved in my case and how best to handle them have proven to be of tremendous value. Time after time, John has provided me with solid and compassionate counsel that has allowed me to have a clear understanding of what lies ahead as we move forward with my case. I would feel very comfortable recommending John to anyone, including close friends and family members in need of an attorney specializing in matters relating to Social Security.

John Kuhnlein came strongly recommended to me and without hesitation I will recommend him to anyone who needs SSD support and representation. He is knowledgeable, compassionate and responds within minutes of any questions or concerns. He stays current with the ever changing landscape of SSD and in the areas of medical conditions and how they impact a persons every day life. I am confident that I am in extremely capable and trustworthy hands.

John came to us highly recommended. We came to him after the first denial and he helped my wife achieve a favorable decision with full back pay through the second appeal and hearing process. He clearly knew his business and was attentive to all of our concerns. John was always very responsive when we had questions and he was open and honest with us. It was obvious that he was liked and respected court officers and the judge at the hearing. Although he took it all seriously, his quirky sense of humor helped to lighten a lengthy and difficult situation. We highly recommend him.

These folks are the best in the business! I had a citation from a red light camera in Chandler. I truly believed that the citation was in error and my being a CDL holder, I couldn't afford a ding on my record. The attorneys assured me they believed i could get the citation knocked down to a municipal offense. They got the citation completely thrown out! Tyler's law firm will always be on my speed dial! Thanks to everyone for going the extra mile!

Ms Foster answered my question a long time ago but I didn't realize I could write a review, I hope this message finds you. The question I asked was something that affected me deeply and she responded quickly with a professional attitude but more importantly kindness. The other lawyers answers were cold without any emotional sympathy. I am on SSI and my partner proposed and I was both excited but fearful of the affect on my benefits. She calculated the actual amount I would lose which fortunately was hundreds less than I feared. With her assurance I can start my family with the right calculation and without anxiety. Thank you.

I was looking for an attorney to help me at the Federal Level in my Social Security Case and was having no luck at all. I received a response from Amy to call and talk to her if I would like. I contacted her sent her in my denial notice and she was right on top of things. We did the contract through email and she was able to file my federal suit before the deadline. I am confident that God placed her in my path to help and I strongly believe that the case will be won.

I have had the opportunity to speak to several of Ms Foster's clients over the past several months. They rave about her service and make sure to tell me that they refer her to everyone they know. From knowing Ms Foster personally, I know how trustworthy she is--if she can help someone, she will! She belies the attorney stereotype by being consistently straightforward and honest. I am honored to know her in both a personal and professional capacity and would not hesitate to introduce her to those in need of her services.

My SSI case was really sticky because my disability is visual impairment. For years I was denied any benefit. After several appeals, I contacted Emily for counsel. She helped me to be assigned a court date as my attorney. She was there to answer my questions, assisting and advising me regarding my case. To go in front of the judge, she found it best I appeared representing myself. I won my case. All of her time and attention spent on my case was given out of the goodness of her heart. She upholds the highest of ethics and moral standards. I can see why somebody referred me to her. I would recommend her to everybody.

Emily handled my SSD case when I was originally denied upon my first application. She was supportive, and sensitive to my personal illnesses. She was always available to answer my calls and kept me calm throughout the process. It took almost two years from my original application to finish to be approved. But, without Emily and her awesome staff I'm sure I would still be fighting! Thanks Emily and Andrew!

I began working with Megan Miller in November 2020 as a referral from my doctor. Megan is professional, kind, compassionate, honest and has walked me through each step from the very first phone call. She has diligently worked on my complicated medical case and provided updates in a timely manner. Megan's insight, guidance and attention to detail have been invaluable in this journey. The disability system is not easy to navigate and I'm extremely grateful I've had Megan by my side. The entire of process of being forced to leave a career you love and the hardship also of exhausting finances and the uncertainty of the future are daunting to say the least, especially when medical issues and bills continue to increase... so having a trusted attorney who is fighting for you is such an incredible asset. Megan has gone above and beyond in every way (even taking the time to learn more about my condition and sharing info) and anyone would be lucky to have her on their case. She is one of kind!

Moved from another state with about 2 years under our belt for our hearing date and was disappointed to learn our original Attorney didn't handle cases in Tucson, only Phoenix. I was reffered To Meghan Miller and was bit nervous about the change but put my faith in my Lawyers referral. Everything went so smooth I was scared I would be in for a disappointing decision. My hearing date arrived and Meghan arrived early for the pre-hearing meeting, answering any questions and preparing me for what the Judge may ask. I went into my hearing feeling more comfortable but still uneasy. Meghan prepared a comprehensive brief I believe was responsible for the Judges immediate in hearing decision in my favor. My husband was in the waiting room and struck up a conversation with another disability Attorney and was informed by one of her peers that she was "Top Notch". I have to agree completely and would not hesitate to recommend her services to anyone who wants a winner! Sincerely, Pam R.

The Social Security process can be very long & arduous! No one would dispute that. Ultimately you want a lawyer who can step up to the plate and fight as hard as possible to WIN your case. Karen Karl is that lawyer & much more! I have heard countless & countless stories of other local & state disability lawyers that do not return phone calls & don't seem like they really have a grip on your personal issues. Karen's personalized attention is off the charts. A truly capable, experienced, friendly, lovely & compassionate woman. I feel extremely blessed to have found Karen & eternally indebted to her for all her hard work!

Gil is a phenomenal attorney. His knowledge base is displayed with his many years of experience. I hired to manage my divorce proceedings. Despite my former spouse’s attorney being rude to him, unprofessional, and dragging out the process much longer than necessary, he handled himself very appropriately and refused to be intimidated. The best part of my experience, is he was adamant about not using my resources for wasteful spending. A very rare trait in attorneys these days. Additionally, he helped me delegate the stressful emotions of a divorce, and kept me focused on resolution. I am truly grateful I discovered him, and though I hope to never repeat the experience, I have retained him for any future litigation that might present itself.

I had the pleasure of having Meghan Miller support and lead me through the Social Security Disability legal process. She was honest about timeframes, responded to emails and phone calls within 24 hours with a smile and never made me feel like any question was not worth responding to. One of my hearings Patrick McNamara stepped in for and it went seamlessly. The team ensured, we connected prior, he went over potential questions before, the day of and followed up after. It’s a great team of professional people, more like family; I forget they’re lawyers until there is a judge in the room.

I felt I had a good case for a higher disability award but the VA application process can be very daunting. The entire process in retaining Art Gage was painless. The entire staff was very professional, knowledgable and courteous and went the extra mile for me. Currently working in reconsideration for my husband's disability claim. We've been working with Mary Kay since August of 2022. We have never met her. Communication isn't there, only ever when I hunt her down or she needs information. Can't help but feel like nothing is getting done and I'm going crazy looking for answers or help. I can't help but feel like we aren't important to the firm, however to my family of 6 this is our entire livelihood and him getting disability approved is the only way we will ever be able to get a home for our kids and pay our bills.. I'm terrified and I have no idea what is going on. I've repeatedly left voice-mail and even emails requesting calls with not even an acknowledgment of my request. I feel defeated and hopeless, and utterly depressed and I continue to work and try to keep my family afloat. I dont know what else to do.

If I could leave negative stars I would. The phone staff are liars and beyond rude. You can’t get past them they don’t listen. They sit there and say “lord have mercy” when you ask a simple yes or no question. We called and they told us we would have one hour free to talk to an attorney we scheduled the appointment and some random rude front desk lady called and couldn’t answer basic questions, we finally hung up because she was not even listening. We called back the original number that LIED to us and said we would be speaking to an attorney and they were even more mean and told us they never said that then went on and said that is what they tell everyone? What is it? Do not waste your time I have no clue how this place has good reviews.

I needed to consult with an attorney on the usual practices regarding Workers Comp. due to having a newer business and finding myself in an unusual circumstance as an employer. Through seeking advice with Ms. Samet I became more acquainted with the technical terms in this area and the procedures. Ms. Samet gave several pointers to help guide me and reviewed several processes of what to expect. She expressed a great deal of enthusiasm and concern towards reviewing my matters and now feel more informed as an employer and have a peace of mind. I am thankful she took the time to address all my questions, gave me her full attention with a sense of care and had a supportive staff that seemed very driven and task oriented (I left my cell at their office and they immediately contacted me). From the time I arrived by being warmly greeted by a little dog that happened to be at the office that helped sooth my anxiety, to the warm, welcoming assistance and point of meeting Dee Dee who was very knowledgeable... My full experience at this law office through my consultation was definitely valuable. I was able to discuss many areas of workers comp that I was not familiar with and found Mrs. Samet to be very resourceful. This attorney used to represent employers in the past, however she now represents employees. This attorney has a vast amount of knowlege and wisdom through her long years of practice and experience.

Hired Mr Pekas in 2008 disability claim, I had all my doctors submitted forms/records all supported me, hereditary connective tissue disorder, brain stem compression and more isssues. It is NOT normal to be stuck in the disability application system for 8 YEARS!! I did NOT know that, as I had trusted the Fiduciary/attorney I hired!BIG mistake! Do you know that az arizona has a Rule that Attorney can NOT take more than $6000 fee for disability case? I did NOT know! Well NOW it makes sense WHY i was stuck for 8 years. MONEY!! $6000 fee versus 25% of hundreds of thousands of $$ fee. SHAMEFUL! behavior. My Geneticist I saw in 2015 asked me WHY i had not been approved for disability(as her other 3000 patients with this rare disorder ALL had been approved within 6 to 12 months of their applcation. SHE told me it is fishy and NOT right and to CONTACT my Senator. Bless her! I DID just that. and Bless Senator Mc, who assited me by contacting the Administrative Law judge in dissability division, I was approved shortly after that. Seems, a LOT of my medical records, Doctor forms etc had NOT been submitted, so that is why I kept getting denied( on my final 3rd? appeal/8 years in system!!) of course Mr pekas(with Caldwell Ober in 2008 when I hired him) tried to get 25% of the aprx $150k award(back from 2008 to date approved) even though small monthly $ add up over 8 years!) With Senator help Judge saw what was going on GREED and denied Mr pekas attempt to get the aproximate 30k. These are the facts. ALL medical records gathered by a claimant should be submitted in order to get approved, No attorney should leave any of them out , when asked to submit by a client/claimant.

After getting a denial of my claim from Social Security, I called Mr. Pekas after reading his reviews. I spoke to his assistant on the telephone. She scheduled an appointment for a telephone interview - not to see Mr. Pekas in person. On the appointed date and time, I got the call. It was from the same assistant who asked me a series of questions and subsequently declined to represent me, siting that I was one quarter short and my last day insured was too early. She suggested I could go back to work an additional quarter and maybe I would qualify after my last day insured is updated. I checked with Social Security and confirmed their information was outdated. I got corrected information and Called Mr. Pekas' assistant back, leaving her a detailed message. She never returned my call. I then found another attorney who brought into his office for a consultation, reviewed the same information. This other attorney said he was confident he could help. I hired him instead of Mr. Pekas. Lesson - Attorney should be involved in intake review.

After having a bad experience with my personal injury lawyer and without any referral, I didn't expect much when I called the office of Ober & Pekas, PLLC. However, Jeremy Pekas put me at ease from the very beginning when we first met. He was very reassuring, honest and professional. He explained all my options and laid out a timeline for the entire process. Jeremy handled my case very caring and professionally. He was also very prompt with his replies to my questions. My SSDI case was settled much sooner than I expected. I couldn't be happier & am so thankful to Jeremy for taking my case. I would highly recommend Ober & Pekas, PLLC to anybody looking for Social Security benefits. When you are unable to work due to your illness & physical conditions, the last thing you need is having more disappointments & frustrations. Jeremy Pekas is an attorney you need who is experienced, ethical, caring, and passionate. I wish there're more lawyers like Jeremy.

If you want justice for a loved one for medical malpractice, and wrongful death stay away from this law firm. They will only take your case if the victim and their family didn't sign any medical documents at the hospital. Not sure what planet they practice law on. What a waste of time.

I keep forgetting it's income based. So if you need legal help be sure your combined family income (CFI) is Broke. And even then it may be difficult to qualify. So you may have to be either Beyond Broke or Dirt Poor. The point is if you need legal help regardless of income you're not going to get it here. And any other resources they provide have you questioning whether or not you do have a legal issue.

Tye was a partner along with Eric Slepian when I had my case accepted by their firm. My experience with Tye was less than great. I found him to be very terse and when I was on the phone with him, he gave me the impression that his time was far too valuable for him to be talking with me. Actually did this thing where he made it clear he had just put the phone down until I stopped talking. because I had dared to repeat myself, because he failed to respond to what I had just said not 60 seconds prior. Just my impression, but he seems to lack any real empathy for his clients, and in all, just not a very nice man. I gave him two stars, only because of his years of experience, as I imagine he learned a thing or two from the Slepian family, and for what it was worth, he did make partner at that firm. Not sure how long he was with Eric Slepian, but he was there for two years while my case was in progress. I would recommend Eric Slepian, as I believe he is a second generation disability lawyer. Not sure, but I believe his father was also disability attorney. My case is still pending. Just the process for those of us who do not have slam dunk cases. Its unfortunate that social security obviously want to draw out the process as long as possible, and the pandemic has just made the wait time even longer! Tye may be a good lawyer, I would not know how good of one he is, but his demeanor sure leaves a good bit to be desired!

I am a Navy Veteran who served in uniform for over 30 years. Shorty after retiring in 2010 the VA found me to be 100 percent disabled. I filed for Social Security Disability and was denied. In 2013 I reapplied and was once again turned down. I applied for an appeal and was going to go through the process alone. Two weeks before my court date I saw a TV Commercial about Slepian Law Office. I knew that I was unprepared and lacking the knowledge to represent myself. I gave Slepian a call and they agreed to represent me. This was one of the smartest decisions of my life. My attorney Tye S. Smith and his staff prepared a winning case. He is a true professional. I was amazed at how quickly he understood my military background and how my service connected disabilities impacted my daily life. I could not of asked for better representation. Make the call! I just fired Mary Kay Fowler as my attorney for my social security disability hearing. I never chose her to begin with, the previous attorney simply sent my file to her and I had no energy to object. I received a voicemail from her one day, a few months into her having my case, asking to set up a phone appointment as she had some questions. She also said she would be sending me an email. I called back shortly after she left the voicemail and had to leave a message myself. Didn’t receive a call back and never received that email she said she would send. In my voicemail I said that I had some questions as well about the paperwork they sent me in the mail to have filled out by my doctors and I told them when my doctor’s appointments were. I received no response. Wasted my doctor’s appointments and my time and energy to set them up. Also they never alerted me that they would be sending that paperwork in the mail so it was a complete shock when I received it. I had to do some maneuvering and pull some favors to get the doctor’s appointments in time to have the paperwork filled out by their deadline. All of this went to waste. They should have alerted me that this paperwork was being sent and that I needed it to be filled out by medical professionals so I could set up the appointments and also explain how to fill it out. I need to show that I have been disabled since 2016. It is now 2021 so am I to have this filled out about 2016? Because that’s 5 years ago and I have already submitted paperwork showing that (already had a hearing) and have different doctors now. No response from them until I was fed up and emailed them that I wanted different representation. Literally THREE MINUTES LATER, I’m not even exaggerating, I received an email from them. I was too pissed to respond then and was deciding what I was going to do. The next day I emailed them asking for a digital copy of the paperwork they sent in the mail to be filled out by the doctors. It was then that I was told by her assistant that she only sent that paperwork out because she didn’t have my DLI yet (2016). So essentially she sent me unnecessary paperwork and wasted my time and energy when some days I can barely get out of bed. Now they want to talk and her assistant asks when we can set up an appointment. I’m not confident in her abilities and I am still contemplating what I am going to do. I am referred to an attorney by my doctor and contact them. They say they will review the exhibit file and will let me know what they think about my case. I am still on the edge about if I am going to stick with her or not and just want another attorney’s point of view before I make a decision. I contact Mary Kay’s assistant and ask for my file. She forwards my email to Mary Kay and I actually get a response from her. She tells me to contact the previous attorney for it (who got annoyed with me contacting him when I couldn’t get ahold of Mary Kay, so I don’t know how well that’s going to fare). Also, she demands an answer that Monday (again, it is Friday afternoon) as to if I am going to stick with her or not. I told her that is not enough time for me. I need to get the file and have someone review it to make a decision. She emails me again still demanding a response Monday. This just seals the deal for me that she is NOT the attorney for me. Seriously, she and her assistant only responded when I said I want other representation yet somehow she demands an answer from me that Monday, a business day later? If you can even call it that. With it being Friday afternoon there’s no way I could get the file and have someone review it all in one day on Monday. I most likely would’ve had an answer Tuesday or Wednesday and may have kept her on but her inability to listen to me or keep me informed, her horrible communication (really the lack thereof), her wasting my time, and her ridiculous and impossible deadline leaves me with no faith in her ability to properly represent me whatsoever.

This is a Workers Compensation Lawyer. He won my case and I still wouldn't recomend this lawyer. He's in an office with two other lawyers in the same specialty, and a couple of secretaries yet no one ever answers the phone, you always get voice mail for some reason. The first contact with his office is ok, I left a message and Mr. Testini did call me back the following day, I set up a personal meeting with him and retained his services. Every phone call within the first year except two were answered by voice mail. And out of about 25 calls 20 of them I had to call back at least 1 more time before receiving a return call from a secretary, some times 3 or more times just to get a simple question answered. You really get the impression that you are NOT important to this firm. Like I siad I did win my workers comp case but it was more luck than skill. There are a lot of other lawyers out there, I would pick one of them! Unless you like being disabled and feeling unimportant to your lawyer!

I contacted this lawyer regarding a social security disability claim. He cancelled our appointment less than one hour before the appointment for “a family emergency”. He told me to drop by and meet his assistant who would be handling the case. I assumed he meant next time I was in town. He called back one hour later and left a message wanting to know why I didn’t keep my appointment. I called back the next day to apologize to his assistant, assuming I misunderstood. She was unavailable so I left a message. I called back the next day, and was again told she was unavailable, so I left another message. I called back a third time, and after being on hold over five minutes was told she couldn’t be located. At this point I left the message for her to please send me the paperwork to sign in order to get things working. Two days later, I received correspondence from him. Instead of a contract to sign, I received a cancellation letter for failure to keep scheduled appointment (which he cancelled) and failure to return phone calls. I don’t know how good he is as a lawyer, I never got that far.

What a Social Security & Disability Lawyer Can Do for You

A Social Security and Disability lawyer specializes in helping individuals navigate the complex process of applying for and securing Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. These lawyers assist clients in filing applications, gathering necessary medical evidence, appealing denied claims, and representing them in hearings before administrative law judges. A lawyer can help maximize the chances of approval by ensuring that the paperwork is accurate, deadlines are met, and legal standards are addressed.

If you are disabled and unable to work, or if your Social Security Disability claim has been denied, a Social Security and Disability lawyer can guide you through the legal process to obtain the benefits you’re entitled to.

When Should I Hire a Social Security & Disability Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer in the following situations:

  • Applying for SSDI or SSI benefits: The application process for disability benefits can be complex, with strict requirements and documentation. A lawyer can assist in completing the application correctly and submitting the required medical evidence to improve your chances of approval.
  • Denied disability claim: If your initial claim for SSDI or SSI benefits has been denied, a lawyer can help file an appeal and represent you in hearings. Many claims are denied initially, and having legal representation during the appeal process significantly increases the chances of success.
  • Requesting reconsideration: After an initial denial, you have the right to request reconsideration of your claim. A lawyer can help present new medical evidence or correct any errors in your original application.
  • Hearing before an administrative law judge (ALJ): If your reconsideration request is denied, you may request a hearing before an ALJ. A lawyer can represent you during the hearing, preparing you to answer questions and presenting a strong case based on your medical and work history.
  • Proving medical conditions: If your disability involves complex medical conditions, a lawyer can help gather expert medical testimony or additional evidence to demonstrate that your condition meets the legal criteria for disability.
  • Overpayments and cessation of benefits: If the Social Security Administration (SSA) claims you were overpaid or attempts to terminate your benefits, a lawyer can assist in challenging the decision and protect your right to continue receiving benefits.
  • SSI for low-income individuals: If you are applying for SSI, which is based on financial need in addition to disability, a lawyer can help ensure that your financial records are correctly submitted to meet SSA’s strict income and asset limits.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process can help you avoid mistakes that could delay or jeopardize your claim.

What Does a Social Security & Disability Lawyer Do?

A Social Security and Disability lawyer provides a range of services to help individuals navigate the application and appeals process for SSDI or SSI benefits. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Filing initial applications: A lawyer can help prepare and file your SSDI or SSI application, ensuring that all necessary forms are completed accurately and medical evidence is included.
  • Gathering medical evidence: A lawyer works with your doctors and healthcare providers to collect medical records, treatment histories, and expert opinions to support your disability claim.
  • Filing appeals: If your initial application is denied, a lawyer can file an appeal and guide you through the reconsideration process, ensuring that any additional documentation or evidence is provided.
  • Representing you in hearings: A lawyer will represent you in front of an administrative law judge, helping you prepare for the hearing and arguing your case to demonstrate that your disability prevents you from working.
  • Handling deadlines and paperwork: A lawyer will ensure that all deadlines are met, and that any requests for additional information from the SSA are responded to promptly.
  • Negotiating settlements (for private disability insurance claims): If your disability benefits claim involves private disability insurance (in addition to or instead of SSDI/SSI), a lawyer can help negotiate a fair settlement with the insurance company.
  • Fighting benefit terminations or overpayment claims: If the SSA attempts to terminate your benefits or claims you were overpaid, a lawyer can defend you in administrative proceedings or file for a waiver or reconsideration.

How Are Social Security & Disability Lawyers Paid?

Social Security and Disability lawyers are typically paid on a contingency fee basis, meaning they only get paid if your case is successful, either through the approval of your disability benefits or winning an appeal. Here's how it generally works:

  • Contingency fee: The fee is usually 25% of your past-due (backpay) benefits, but no more than $7,200. This fee structure is set by the SSA, and lawyers cannot charge more than this amount for SSDI or SSI cases.
  • No cost for future benefits: Lawyers are not entitled to any portion of your future monthly disability benefits. Their fee is strictly limited to a percentage of your backpay.
  • Additional costs: In some cases, you may need to pay for additional expenses, such as obtaining medical records or expert witness testimony. These costs are usually minimal, but it’s essential to ask your lawyer about any additional expenses upfront.

It’s essential to confirm fee arrangements with your lawyer during the initial consultation to avoid misunderstandings.

How Much Does a Social Security & Disability Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer is typically structured around the contingency fee system outlined by the SSA. General cost information includes:

  • Contingency fee: The lawyer’s fee is capped at 25% of your backpay, with a maximum of $7,200. For example, if you are awarded $10,000 in backpay, the lawyer will receive $2,500 (25%), and you will receive the remaining $7,500.

Overall, there is no financial risk in hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer, as they only get paid if your case is successful.

Top Questions to Ask a Social Security & Disability Lawyer

Before hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise to handle your case effectively. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with Social Security Disability cases?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling SSDI and SSI cases similar to yours, particularly if you have a complex medical condition.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Confirm that the lawyer charges a contingency fee and that you won’t owe any fees unless your claim is successful. Ask if there are any additional costs for medical records or other expenses.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of your case and the potential challenges you may face.
  4. How long will the process take?
Disability claims can take time, especially if you’re appealing a denial. Ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to last and what the typical timeline is for cases like yours.
  5. How will you help me prepare for my hearing?
If your case is going to a hearing before an administrative law judge, ask the lawyer how they will help you prepare for testimony and present your medical evidence effectively.
  6. What happens if I’m denied again?
Ask about the next steps if your reconsideration or appeal is denied, including the possibility of further appeals to federal court.

How to Check the Credibility of a Social Security & Disability Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable Social Security and Disability lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for Social Security experience: Review the lawyer’s website or profile to ensure they specialize in Social Security and Disability law and have successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on Social Security Disability matters.
  • Check for memberships in relevant organizations: Membership in organizations like the National Organization of Social Security Claimants' Representatives (NOSSCR) can indicate that the lawyer is committed to representing disability claimants.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a Social Security and Disability lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Medical records: Bring copies of your medical records, including doctor’s notes, test results, treatment histories, and any disability-related diagnoses.
  • List of medications and treatments: Provide a detailed list of any medications you are taking, treatments you have received, and ongoing medical care related to your disability.
  • Denial letters (if applicable): If your disability claim has been denied, bring a copy of the denial letter from the SSA, along with any documentation related to your appeal.
  • Work history: Provide information about your previous jobs and work history, including details about how your disability has impacted your ability to work.
  • Social Security application (if already filed): If you’ve already submitted an application, bring a copy of the application and any correspondence you’ve had with the SSA.
  • List of questions: Prepare a list of questions you have about the legal process, the lawyer’s fees, and what to expect in terms of timelines and outcomes.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your case more effectively and provide the best possible legal advice tailored to your situation.
