So, I normally do not write reviews, especially for deeply personal services such as they provide, however my experience with these people was so poor I felt it particularly important to share. If you are interested in the details I will provide them below, but I want to sum it up first as most of us do not read entire reviews. I hired these people on Monday Dec 16thand fired them 7 days later. There were two reasons: 1) Communication was worse than poor and 2) the assigned lawyer put more effort into arguing with me than he did in preparing the document I instructed him to write. They were given a chance to correct both mistakes and instead gave me a full refund of the retainer without even so much as an apology. I was left completely stunned by their utter lack of commitment, conviction, and even basic knowledge of the law. This man, and this firm should be completely embarrassed by this. The full story: I conducted interviews with multiple firms, this company was my second choice. I was clear during my interviews exactly what the situation was, what my expectations were and what my goals were. Every firm I spoke with all said the same thing “absolutely no problem “. I was told on on Wednesday the 11th during the interview with this firm that lawyer a would be a good fit. I paid the retainer on the following Monday and was immediately told that lawyer a was no longer available. I was assigned to lawyer b, who I immediately made an appointment with. This was Monday afternoon. On Tuesday Mr. B called me 1.25 hours early, where we had (what I thought to be) a productive conversation. He said he would pull what he needed from public records and get back to me with the documents as well as a “strategy” within a couple of days. At nearly 4:30 on Friday afternoon (after I complained that he had not reached out) Mr. B sent me an email where he lectured me about positioning, then he stated he was not able to pull the document he needed. In my response email I pointed out what he was arguing was not even relevant to the situation, then I asked him why he waited to ask for the document. I also pointed out that not only does the law entitles me to exactly what I’m asking for, but every lawyer I asked including his boss disagrees with his opinion of the situation. I gave Mr. B 4 hours to do what he was hired to do, with a deadline of noon on Monday the 23rd. I also called his boss and leaving a voicemail requesting to speak with her Monday morning. Monday Dec 23 at 2 pm I called the boss, got voicemail again and told her it might be time to start talking about a refund. I then sent Mr. B, the boss and the paralegal an email saying time was up and I had seen no effort at all. I asked why I shouldn’t fire him. I never received any response from Mr. B, his paralegal or the boss. I did however get an email from someone to process the refund less then one hour after the email sent to Mr. B. Had the money back before the end of the day on Monday. Please do not hire these people. Mr. B was the second choice of my second choice, and I’m so thankful he showed me his incompetence before he even reached out to opposing counsel. The utter stupidity and incompetence was overwhelming to say the least. I feel so sorry for anyone who is foolish enough to hire them. The only good thing is they didn’t charge me for the 30 minute phone call or that poorly thought-out email, most likely in hopes that I wouldn’t share my story

She was able to get my social security approved in 2005 and also was able to get my personal long term disability approved after receiving LTD for 5yrs this was in 2009 they discontinued me. Shelly was able to get me reinstated and she did not charge me and arm and a leg. I thank her all the time if it wasn't for her I don't know what I would have done.

I hired Mr. McGuire after a bad experience with multiple disability lawyers. He took my Brain Injury case when no one else would. I was very impressed with his knowledge, experience as well as his patience in helping me through the disability process. Pete took the time to personally answer all of my questions, never made me feel rushed or just like another client. He was very easy to talk to, straight forward and honest about everything and never made me feel like he was just about the money. When I showed up for the hearing, the lady who signed me in could tell I was nervous and her comment was “Oh Hun don’t worry, you’ve got Pete McGuire, he’s great!” She was exactly right. I would definitely recommend Pete McGuire to ANYONE that is looking for a great lawyer.

I was always concerned that when the day came to make a will and medical directive it would not only be emotional, it would also be complicated. While there was an emotional component (considering my death and those I would leave behind), the process itself was not complicated at all. Working with Julie Kreutzer was like working with a good friend. She was empathetic, kind, communicative, and guided me through the process every step of the way. She helped me clarify my intent. Made sure all the wording was clear and easily understood by those who would be reading it when the time came. Her suggestions were always gentle, caring, and with my best intentions in mind. If you are looking for an Attorney who will have your back even when the process is completed, and will be there in the future should things change, you can do no better than Julie. Norman Allard

Julie is an empathetic and knowledgeable attorney. She assisted me with a civil issue that I had no experience with. Not only did she guide me through the matter but she taught me how to represent myself in different situations and maintained open communication throughout the process. Not many people take the time to learn the intricacies of the law so having that support from Julie was a tremendous relief. I highly recommend reaching out to Julie if you need legal assistance!

I have recently had the opportunity to use the legal services of Michael Levy on two separate occasions. I wanted to take a moment to share my experience and thoughts. I found Michael Levy to be extremely responsive. The second issue I brought to him was time sensitive. He made arrangements to see me within two hours of our initial discussion. That kind of response is unheard of these days. The work related to that issue was completed that same day. I was kept informed on progress and potential issues throughout the whole process. Mike Levy is very knowledgeable. He explains legal issues, potential problems, and the process clearly so you can understand and make an informed decision and action plan. Michael Levy is extremely competent, professional, and caring. I highly recommend his legal services.

I wholeheartedly recommend Mr. West; whose service has proven to be exceptionally valuable, supportive, and distinguished. I believe Mr. West stands out as a true exemplar of legal professionalism and dedicated service. He and his team's unwavering commitment to the betterment of clients, their issues, and the community has been both evident and impactful. Through years of principled dedication, particularly in my extended family law issue, he became a beacon of rationality and disciplined thought which proved vital for my survival during the chaos of an extended custody battle. What distinguishes Mr. West is his profound dedication to ensuring that I received not only expert legal guidance but also compassionate support during my contentious family law situation. His principles and unwavering dedication have significantly contributed to resolving my conflict with integrity and sensitivity. I firmly believe that when seeking counsel, particularly in family law cases where emotions often run high, Mr. West and his team should be at the forefront of consideration.

Consulted attorney and hired. My case could not get any easier. Non- Contested WC case. After meeting with Mr. Crabtree, he seemed very interested in my case. However, there were issues I discussed early on regarding my slip and fall injury at work VERY IMPORTANT obtaining the surveillance video of my fall. At first he said he would try to obtain the video. As my case moved along Mr. Crabtree never mentioned the surveillance video again. This was very important to me. Another issue discussed CHANGE OF PHYSICIAN. A hearing was set three months before the date only to have this attorney tell me I would loose. This was the day before the hearing. The INTERROGATORIES another interesting step in this WC process--he does not give you a lot of information; however he needs months to prepare, VERY IMPORTANT he changes my statement leaves out important information about the surveillance video and any witnesses that watched the video. I'm an injured worker-my injuries have left me with horrible pain I have to deal with every day. I thought I selected the right attorney. This attorney works for the corporation. Do your research!!! He carefully listens to you in order to turn around and use this to his advantage.

Sean Goodbody was clear and informative. I feel like he did the best he could for my husband's work comp case. Unfortunetly it was not successful, but I do not think that was Sean's fault in anyway. Dispointed in the system, not in Sean.

Been waiting for Sean goodbody to settle my workman's comp claim for 2 years and eight months. Had told me that recently the claim was settled and I needed to fill out paperwork and return it to see my settlement. So I did. Then they told me that I needed to fill out more paperwork to get my money and still no settlement. It will be 3 years in February fighting this!

Cullen was hired based on a referral from Tessa. I had been assaulted by my spouse, who was a former special forces operative and had tried to strangled me to death with our kids in the house. I had very little experience with attorneys. I was in shock and had no family to support me. Leading up to my permanent protection order hearing, I offered over and over if we needed witnesses or documents submitted. There was the woman who had met me at the hospital. The officer who made the arrest and others who had been involved. Cullen was dismissive and said it wasn't needed. She also never informed me of my rights as a victim of a violent crime. My assailant mocked me as I shakily gathered my belongings after going through security. When Cullen arrived for my hearing, she failed to even bring my file. She was disheveled and had nothing prepared. She asked if she could borrow my personal file. She told me to call my 19 year old daughter, who was watching her younger siblings and ask her to come testify. She scrambled to find a sitter and get there asap. A DV advocate who had worked with me was there for another hearing and on the spot, Cullen asked her to testify. It was completely haphazard. The judge even commented that Cullen was unprepared and offered to extend the protection order but stated that there had not been enough evidence presented by Cullen to justify a permanent order. I paid this woman a substantial amount and she failed to even show up with my file. It was an awful experience.

The very first conversation I had with this lady not just showed me a flicker of hope but also that I'm not as invisible as I feel. She has shown me that someone will listen and someone will hear you. I have no doubts in my mind that this lady will represent me to the capitol letter of her name as long as I show that I am worth fighting for. That 1 star review I read comes from anonymous... Seems like you were a coward afraid to fight for yourself or even let your name be known. I hope you learn and grow from this and make better decisions in the future.

Horrible representation used her for my divorce and she had her own agenda did not listen when I explained safety concerns regarding my ex and our child. Stated that I was not able to get back child support which was wrong. Did not advocate at all or give rebuttal arguements. Do not use her you would be better off representing yourself and saving money .

Fred is very friendly, but that is where the positives end. I was referred to Mr. Newall by ARAG for a legal name change. We pay for legal services benefits so I thought, why not finally change my name after all these years using a nick name. Oh boy, was that a joke. What should have been a 15 minute conversation about what I needed turned into a full hour consult, but the majority of that conversation was about his cats. Including grainy pictures from a 20 year old flip phone. He really likes to chat about his family and life. I tried to chalk it up to him being a nice old man, but it kept getting worse. His office is a complete disaster; stacks upon stacks of files piled everywhere. And these weren't current cases he was working on; many of these had dates from the 1990's. He asked me the same questions multiple times. Simple things like my name; which he had written down. Even after several times of my telling him that I wanted to change my first name from Olivia to Leea, including the forms right in front of him, he still managed to get it backward. After I was finally able to get away and get out the door, I heard nothing for weeks. I finally called to check in and his secretary advised me I needed to complete paperwork I'd already done with Fred and pay a deposit. A deposit shouldn't have been needed since ARAG was covering it fully. His secretary explained it was for incidentals. We're talking a simple name change and I had to pay for court fees, background checks, etc. myself so what incidentals could there be? After more than two months with no movement from Fred, I finally just looked up the process and did the legal name change myself. It wasn't that hard and even with all the items I had to pay for myself even with an attorney(court filing, background check, fingerprints, etc), I got it done in two months for less than he wanted for a deposit! This guy was obviously good at one time, but he is well past his prime and is no longer a good lawyer. Save your money and do it yourself or hire a real attorney.

I cannot recommend Ann Atkinson highly enough. She won my mental health disability case outright, no small feat. More than that, she made me feel at ease from the beginning. She explained the process, answered all of my questions, and calmed my nerves. I am so grateful to have had her as my attorney and consider her to be a trusted advisor to this day.

David delayed multiple deadlines in my case for no good reason, except apparently to bill more time unnecessarily. He double billed costs, billed me for time spent talking about my concerns about his bills, and low-balled the settlement offers. Everyone said my case was a rare winner, but he refused to take it to trial. I am extremely unhappy. Terrible.

Amy is currently helping me litigate against A large retailer and has helped my wife in the past with litigation against a pizza delivery worker who t-boned us years ago. I know of no other lawyer who would go through what she's been through with me. She is so responsive, generous, caring and trustworthy. She has helped me tremendously and has been a true friend throughout this ordeal. While she is still learning about Workers Comp cases she is not afraid of the big boys or to ask colleagues for advice or to school herself on the issues. What a tremendous job se has done for me and my family. She helped me get my job back, to win compensability in what seemed like a hopeless case, and we're still fighting. She is tenacious, doesn't give up and her background outside of Workers Comp in other areas of practice proved invaluable in my situation. I have recommended her to several friends and co-workers and she has successfully litigated on their behalf, winning two that I have sent her way and working on two others beside mine. Through my case and others she has become a local expert in dealing with Wal-Mart and standing up to their tactics. I highly recommend her services should you need to stand up to this Goliath. Thank you Amy for all you have done and are still doing. Whatever happens I will be eternally grateful for you! Pastor Joe Senior Pastor, Mile High Bible Institute

This lawyer failed to do what I hired her for. Actually she did the opposite and really hurt my case, continually infuriating the Judge. We constantly asked for itemized statements that was never met and was overcharged for services never preformed. I'm hoping and praying that this will help out others. Thank you for your time.

What a Social Security & Disability Lawyer Can Do for You

A Social Security and Disability lawyer specializes in helping individuals navigate the complex process of applying for and securing Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. These lawyers assist clients in filing applications, gathering necessary medical evidence, appealing denied claims, and representing them in hearings before administrative law judges. A lawyer can help maximize the chances of approval by ensuring that the paperwork is accurate, deadlines are met, and legal standards are addressed.

If you are disabled and unable to work, or if your Social Security Disability claim has been denied, a Social Security and Disability lawyer can guide you through the legal process to obtain the benefits you’re entitled to.

When Should I Hire a Social Security & Disability Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer in the following situations:

  • Applying for SSDI or SSI benefits: The application process for disability benefits can be complex, with strict requirements and documentation. A lawyer can assist in completing the application correctly and submitting the required medical evidence to improve your chances of approval.
  • Denied disability claim: If your initial claim for SSDI or SSI benefits has been denied, a lawyer can help file an appeal and represent you in hearings. Many claims are denied initially, and having legal representation during the appeal process significantly increases the chances of success.
  • Requesting reconsideration: After an initial denial, you have the right to request reconsideration of your claim. A lawyer can help present new medical evidence or correct any errors in your original application.
  • Hearing before an administrative law judge (ALJ): If your reconsideration request is denied, you may request a hearing before an ALJ. A lawyer can represent you during the hearing, preparing you to answer questions and presenting a strong case based on your medical and work history.
  • Proving medical conditions: If your disability involves complex medical conditions, a lawyer can help gather expert medical testimony or additional evidence to demonstrate that your condition meets the legal criteria for disability.
  • Overpayments and cessation of benefits: If the Social Security Administration (SSA) claims you were overpaid or attempts to terminate your benefits, a lawyer can assist in challenging the decision and protect your right to continue receiving benefits.
  • SSI for low-income individuals: If you are applying for SSI, which is based on financial need in addition to disability, a lawyer can help ensure that your financial records are correctly submitted to meet SSA’s strict income and asset limits.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process can help you avoid mistakes that could delay or jeopardize your claim.

What Does a Social Security & Disability Lawyer Do?

A Social Security and Disability lawyer provides a range of services to help individuals navigate the application and appeals process for SSDI or SSI benefits. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Filing initial applications: A lawyer can help prepare and file your SSDI or SSI application, ensuring that all necessary forms are completed accurately and medical evidence is included.
  • Gathering medical evidence: A lawyer works with your doctors and healthcare providers to collect medical records, treatment histories, and expert opinions to support your disability claim.
  • Filing appeals: If your initial application is denied, a lawyer can file an appeal and guide you through the reconsideration process, ensuring that any additional documentation or evidence is provided.
  • Representing you in hearings: A lawyer will represent you in front of an administrative law judge, helping you prepare for the hearing and arguing your case to demonstrate that your disability prevents you from working.
  • Handling deadlines and paperwork: A lawyer will ensure that all deadlines are met, and that any requests for additional information from the SSA are responded to promptly.
  • Negotiating settlements (for private disability insurance claims): If your disability benefits claim involves private disability insurance (in addition to or instead of SSDI/SSI), a lawyer can help negotiate a fair settlement with the insurance company.
  • Fighting benefit terminations or overpayment claims: If the SSA attempts to terminate your benefits or claims you were overpaid, a lawyer can defend you in administrative proceedings or file for a waiver or reconsideration.

How Are Social Security & Disability Lawyers Paid?

Social Security and Disability lawyers are typically paid on a contingency fee basis, meaning they only get paid if your case is successful, either through the approval of your disability benefits or winning an appeal. Here's how it generally works:

  • Contingency fee: The fee is usually 25% of your past-due (backpay) benefits, but no more than $7,200. This fee structure is set by the SSA, and lawyers cannot charge more than this amount for SSDI or SSI cases.
  • No cost for future benefits: Lawyers are not entitled to any portion of your future monthly disability benefits. Their fee is strictly limited to a percentage of your backpay.
  • Additional costs: In some cases, you may need to pay for additional expenses, such as obtaining medical records or expert witness testimony. These costs are usually minimal, but it’s essential to ask your lawyer about any additional expenses upfront.

It’s essential to confirm fee arrangements with your lawyer during the initial consultation to avoid misunderstandings.

How Much Does a Social Security & Disability Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer is typically structured around the contingency fee system outlined by the SSA. General cost information includes:

  • Contingency fee: The lawyer’s fee is capped at 25% of your backpay, with a maximum of $7,200. For example, if you are awarded $10,000 in backpay, the lawyer will receive $2,500 (25%), and you will receive the remaining $7,500.

Overall, there is no financial risk in hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer, as they only get paid if your case is successful.

Top Questions to Ask a Social Security & Disability Lawyer

Before hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise to handle your case effectively. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with Social Security Disability cases?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling SSDI and SSI cases similar to yours, particularly if you have a complex medical condition.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Confirm that the lawyer charges a contingency fee and that you won’t owe any fees unless your claim is successful. Ask if there are any additional costs for medical records or other expenses.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of your case and the potential challenges you may face.
  4. How long will the process take?
Disability claims can take time, especially if you’re appealing a denial. Ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to last and what the typical timeline is for cases like yours.
  5. How will you help me prepare for my hearing?
If your case is going to a hearing before an administrative law judge, ask the lawyer how they will help you prepare for testimony and present your medical evidence effectively.
  6. What happens if I’m denied again?
Ask about the next steps if your reconsideration or appeal is denied, including the possibility of further appeals to federal court.

How to Check the Credibility of a Social Security & Disability Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable Social Security and Disability lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for Social Security experience: Review the lawyer’s website or profile to ensure they specialize in Social Security and Disability law and have successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on Social Security Disability matters.
  • Check for memberships in relevant organizations: Membership in organizations like the National Organization of Social Security Claimants' Representatives (NOSSCR) can indicate that the lawyer is committed to representing disability claimants.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a Social Security and Disability lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Medical records: Bring copies of your medical records, including doctor’s notes, test results, treatment histories, and any disability-related diagnoses.
  • List of medications and treatments: Provide a detailed list of any medications you are taking, treatments you have received, and ongoing medical care related to your disability.
  • Denial letters (if applicable): If your disability claim has been denied, bring a copy of the denial letter from the SSA, along with any documentation related to your appeal.
  • Work history: Provide information about your previous jobs and work history, including details about how your disability has impacted your ability to work.
  • Social Security application (if already filed): If you’ve already submitted an application, bring a copy of the application and any correspondence you’ve had with the SSA.
  • List of questions: Prepare a list of questions you have about the legal process, the lawyer’s fees, and what to expect in terms of timelines and outcomes.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your case more effectively and provide the best possible legal advice tailored to your situation.
