I've had a BWC case since 2012 and it was going no where. I hired Stewart Justice and he assisted me in navigating the system. His knowledge and experience shows as we went through the process. He made our uncomfortable situation significantly more tolerable through the thorough explanation of the process and always helping to keep things positive. His fairness and honesty is refreshing and much appreciated... He would sincerely be an asset to have on your side...

When establishing an estate trust for my children, Mary Lewis was very professional, personable, explained everything in detail and answered all my questions. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for legal assistance.

My mortgage company used this group to close on my refi. Worst legal group ever, I've called at least 15 times over the last 2 days not a single answer. Left multiple voicemails and not a single return call. USPS lost a creditor check to pay off account and I can't get in touch with anyone to stop payment and re-issue. A joke of a legal group.

I am extremely satisfied with the services Mr. Doug Malek has done and is continuing to do for me. Doug has made my case stress free so far because he deals with my employer and everything else in between! He makes everything that ‘complicated and stressful to me like it’s a walk in the park! Doug has been very successful in every hearing and problem we have had to come across ,I am very confident and I will always recommend Malek and Malek law firm to any & everybody especially Doug. I was so scared and intimidated at first because I was going against my employer and this situation is my lively hood and how I live and I didn’t know what to do. But Doug made me feel very confident about the choice I have made by hiring him as my lawyer. THANK YOU MALEK AND MALEK and a VERY VERY special thanks to DOUG for what you have done and what you are continuing to do for me .U have all of my trust and confident keep on doing what you’re doing because your winning my case and you do not take NO for an answer. You work so hard for me and you have taken the time to meet with me and get to know me on a personal level, and I think that is very important!. Thank you so much.

I am sorry it took me this long to write this review but Brandy Wyatt is the BEST of the BEST! We had a very unexpected situation arise that caused so much stress and chaos and Brandy made us feel comfortable through the entire ordeal. She worked her magic and we came out unscathed and our family is forever grateful! She was honest, she educated us thoroughly on the good, bad, and ugly, and I could just go on for an eternity about how grateful we are that we found her when we did! Thank you again Brandy!

I went to John Larrimer after a long battle with bwc. First of all, if you're hurt and need a good lawyer, look no further. I tried them all already for you. They all suck, they will promise the moon, and be cool at first but then, they won't respond or do anything after you sign and the moon doesn't ever come. John took me on and basically changed all that stuff. I never had an issue speaking directly to him, not an assistant. He answered any question with respect and timeliness. He gave me straight answers even when he knew I wouldn't like it. This guy is one of the real one folks, I wish i could give him 10 stars. He earned them. Don't waste your time anywhere else.

I've never had a lawyer before, but I have to say, it felt damn good to have one—especially when you get a good one, and I did. My experience with Larrimer & Larrimer was outstanding. The staff is amazing, and as often as you hear people say it, I actually do feel like family. John always made himself available whenever I needed anything, and Amy (The Angel) kept the lines of communication wide open. She always made sure I knew where I stood with the case, providing honest feedback and a clear goal at all times. There’s a big difference between doing the job and doing the job well, and they did it very well. There wasn’t a single time I had a question that wasn’t addressed in record time. Communication is incredibly important to me, and they never let me down—not once. Some days, the fight felt tougher than others, but they never let me give up on myself. In the end, we got the victory. But it’s not just about the win—it’s about the journey and knowing they were there for me every step of the way. I could write a book about my amazing experience with Larrimer & Larrimer. Thank you, John, Amy, and the entire staff, for being there for me. Mr. M. A. Wilder

Shame on these guys when i randomly happened to stumble in one day cause i had the wrong building and law firm their front desk person knew what she was doing even though she was kind enough to tell me I had the wrong building she was the one who was smart enough to start trapping me into conversation to where after a little bit this attorney oh I’m sorry wrong term overpowered legal idiots cause that’s what all of them pretty much are nowadays came out started talking like a shark to me and then after a little bit cause I was smart and left cause I knew it wasn’t worth the energy followed me and told me never to come back again and of course the guy looked like a real winner and just like the rest of them cause he thought he was wearing a nice shirt and dress pants and a tie that he thinks he knows everything when he doesn’t and that tie I mean really seriously the thing looked so outdated it’s not even funny this is why I will never trust him or anyone like him ever again and maybe I’ll figure out how to report this business and him and just like the rest of them when they constantly think cause their legal big shots they can do whatever they want yet their messing with someone who not only has a disability but back in May was deemed in bad psychical health this is what sickens me when we let people nowadays get into positions of power and not hold them accountable or reliable period! I hope that guy learns someday and eventually gets paid back by a power even higher than him and I will never trust anyone with that title ever again cause all they do is dishonor it big time shame on them!

Mike Jewett is a decent lawyer, hes helped my husband out in the past on a discounted fee (family friend of my husbands) but he is rude and a bit disrespectful. While trying to talk to him on the phone regarding a matter i guess he couldn't hear me because of my 20month old and 3 year old who were talking to me. I moved in a room where i could still see them but hopefully he could hear me and my girls (being only toddlers) did not like that and only got louder. Now as any parent knows you cant just go somewhere and leave toddlers alone to go talk on the phone or anything for that matter without jeopardizing their safety. You also cannot tell a 3 year old or 20month old to be quiet and expect them to comply. I told him when he stated "cant you get them quiet?" i said to him "no, what do you want me to do mike? They are 3 and 20 months! I cant just make them be quiet!" he told me then " you have no parenting skills and need to get some!" WHAT! So innapropriate and disrespectful! I wonder if he has kids? Just doesnt seem like something someone who has had children and has been in my shoes would say. I just told him "thanks for your help! Send me the fee!" and hung up. So if you want a decent lawyer hes your guy but expect rude comments and unprofessionalism on his part!

David Abromowitz was the lawyer I hired to help set up my IV Hydration and Vitamin Infusion business. He charged me quadruple what was discussed (quoted me 3.5-5K - charged me over 20K and I paid a final amount of OVER 12k - astronomical amount) and took 3 times as long to complete the job. Three other nurses in my coaching group (NursePreneurs) had similar experiences with him and another nurse, coincidentally, came forward today from a different IV Hydration/Vitamin Infusion business reporting the same story. RNs - be warned! He is dishonest and will overcharge you! I notified the BBB but his response was "I'm sorry she didn't understand". You and I both know the truth, Mr. Abromowitz. You were intentionally dishonest. It's people like you that give lawyers a bad name. All these RNs trusted you, I trusted you. Very unprofessional. I paid Jessica $350; all she did was eat her breakfast, and she gave me some paperwork. She was too rude even to answer any questions and never answered my calls after the original consultation . She then claimed to have sent me several emails and demanded that I answer her (her way to get rid of me as a client) to sever her services; at this point, I realized it was best to cut my losses and get a lawyer who cared. Please don't waste your time with this one; she is a high-priced waste of your time.

I was being represented in court by Donna Mayor she had done nothing for me in court. She was rude and not willing to listen to a word on my case. She didn't even look at my paperwork or evidence in my favor. It wasn't that I didn't want to pay I just didn't agree with all the fees and being charged 3x my rent amount. I had recieved rental assistance for which my landlord only applied 2 months. He applied the rest to unreasonable charges which was thousands of dollars. I even wanted to represent myself but she discouraged me with her actions and bullying. A man named Chris who works there was trying to find information in regards to my funds from the city and what they were for. she started throwing paper at him and belittling him. Now I have no one to help me. Donna just wanted me to settle so she can go on about her day doing nothing or just as okay with me being evicted. She seemed more representing of my landlord then me. When i explained the behavior to her supervisor it was said she was a good attorney. Talking about accountability. Please if your are desperate don't go to this agency they will make sure your family becomes homeless and humilate you while in the process too. I cannot believe the government funds this agency to ruin lives and collect money.

What a Social Security & Disability Lawyer Can Do for You

A Social Security and Disability lawyer specializes in helping individuals navigate the complex process of applying for and securing Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. These lawyers assist clients in filing applications, gathering necessary medical evidence, appealing denied claims, and representing them in hearings before administrative law judges. A lawyer can help maximize the chances of approval by ensuring that the paperwork is accurate, deadlines are met, and legal standards are addressed.

If you are disabled and unable to work, or if your Social Security Disability claim has been denied, a Social Security and Disability lawyer can guide you through the legal process to obtain the benefits you’re entitled to.

When Should I Hire a Social Security & Disability Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer in the following situations:

  • Applying for SSDI or SSI benefits: The application process for disability benefits can be complex, with strict requirements and documentation. A lawyer can assist in completing the application correctly and submitting the required medical evidence to improve your chances of approval.
  • Denied disability claim: If your initial claim for SSDI or SSI benefits has been denied, a lawyer can help file an appeal and represent you in hearings. Many claims are denied initially, and having legal representation during the appeal process significantly increases the chances of success.
  • Requesting reconsideration: After an initial denial, you have the right to request reconsideration of your claim. A lawyer can help present new medical evidence or correct any errors in your original application.
  • Hearing before an administrative law judge (ALJ): If your reconsideration request is denied, you may request a hearing before an ALJ. A lawyer can represent you during the hearing, preparing you to answer questions and presenting a strong case based on your medical and work history.
  • Proving medical conditions: If your disability involves complex medical conditions, a lawyer can help gather expert medical testimony or additional evidence to demonstrate that your condition meets the legal criteria for disability.
  • Overpayments and cessation of benefits: If the Social Security Administration (SSA) claims you were overpaid or attempts to terminate your benefits, a lawyer can assist in challenging the decision and protect your right to continue receiving benefits.
  • SSI for low-income individuals: If you are applying for SSI, which is based on financial need in addition to disability, a lawyer can help ensure that your financial records are correctly submitted to meet SSA’s strict income and asset limits.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process can help you avoid mistakes that could delay or jeopardize your claim.

What Does a Social Security & Disability Lawyer Do?

A Social Security and Disability lawyer provides a range of services to help individuals navigate the application and appeals process for SSDI or SSI benefits. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Filing initial applications: A lawyer can help prepare and file your SSDI or SSI application, ensuring that all necessary forms are completed accurately and medical evidence is included.
  • Gathering medical evidence: A lawyer works with your doctors and healthcare providers to collect medical records, treatment histories, and expert opinions to support your disability claim.
  • Filing appeals: If your initial application is denied, a lawyer can file an appeal and guide you through the reconsideration process, ensuring that any additional documentation or evidence is provided.
  • Representing you in hearings: A lawyer will represent you in front of an administrative law judge, helping you prepare for the hearing and arguing your case to demonstrate that your disability prevents you from working.
  • Handling deadlines and paperwork: A lawyer will ensure that all deadlines are met, and that any requests for additional information from the SSA are responded to promptly.
  • Negotiating settlements (for private disability insurance claims): If your disability benefits claim involves private disability insurance (in addition to or instead of SSDI/SSI), a lawyer can help negotiate a fair settlement with the insurance company.
  • Fighting benefit terminations or overpayment claims: If the SSA attempts to terminate your benefits or claims you were overpaid, a lawyer can defend you in administrative proceedings or file for a waiver or reconsideration.

How Are Social Security & Disability Lawyers Paid?

Social Security and Disability lawyers are typically paid on a contingency fee basis, meaning they only get paid if your case is successful, either through the approval of your disability benefits or winning an appeal. Here's how it generally works:

  • Contingency fee: The fee is usually 25% of your past-due (backpay) benefits, but no more than $7,200. This fee structure is set by the SSA, and lawyers cannot charge more than this amount for SSDI or SSI cases.
  • No cost for future benefits: Lawyers are not entitled to any portion of your future monthly disability benefits. Their fee is strictly limited to a percentage of your backpay.
  • Additional costs: In some cases, you may need to pay for additional expenses, such as obtaining medical records or expert witness testimony. These costs are usually minimal, but it’s essential to ask your lawyer about any additional expenses upfront.

It’s essential to confirm fee arrangements with your lawyer during the initial consultation to avoid misunderstandings.

How Much Does a Social Security & Disability Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer is typically structured around the contingency fee system outlined by the SSA. General cost information includes:

  • Contingency fee: The lawyer’s fee is capped at 25% of your backpay, with a maximum of $7,200. For example, if you are awarded $10,000 in backpay, the lawyer will receive $2,500 (25%), and you will receive the remaining $7,500.

Overall, there is no financial risk in hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer, as they only get paid if your case is successful.

Top Questions to Ask a Social Security & Disability Lawyer

Before hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise to handle your case effectively. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with Social Security Disability cases?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling SSDI and SSI cases similar to yours, particularly if you have a complex medical condition.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Confirm that the lawyer charges a contingency fee and that you won’t owe any fees unless your claim is successful. Ask if there are any additional costs for medical records or other expenses.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of your case and the potential challenges you may face.
  4. How long will the process take?
Disability claims can take time, especially if you’re appealing a denial. Ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to last and what the typical timeline is for cases like yours.
  5. How will you help me prepare for my hearing?
If your case is going to a hearing before an administrative law judge, ask the lawyer how they will help you prepare for testimony and present your medical evidence effectively.
  6. What happens if I’m denied again?
Ask about the next steps if your reconsideration or appeal is denied, including the possibility of further appeals to federal court.

How to Check the Credibility of a Social Security & Disability Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable Social Security and Disability lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for Social Security experience: Review the lawyer’s website or profile to ensure they specialize in Social Security and Disability law and have successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on Social Security Disability matters.
  • Check for memberships in relevant organizations: Membership in organizations like the National Organization of Social Security Claimants' Representatives (NOSSCR) can indicate that the lawyer is committed to representing disability claimants.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a Social Security and Disability lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Medical records: Bring copies of your medical records, including doctor’s notes, test results, treatment histories, and any disability-related diagnoses.
  • List of medications and treatments: Provide a detailed list of any medications you are taking, treatments you have received, and ongoing medical care related to your disability.
  • Denial letters (if applicable): If your disability claim has been denied, bring a copy of the denial letter from the SSA, along with any documentation related to your appeal.
  • Work history: Provide information about your previous jobs and work history, including details about how your disability has impacted your ability to work.
  • Social Security application (if already filed): If you’ve already submitted an application, bring a copy of the application and any correspondence you’ve had with the SSA.
  • List of questions: Prepare a list of questions you have about the legal process, the lawyer’s fees, and what to expect in terms of timelines and outcomes.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your case more effectively and provide the best possible legal advice tailored to your situation.
