I have dismissed charges on some felony due to no evidence. This lady is the attorney for my wife's daughters grandma. Tell how it's right to try to judge and hold someone accountable for a charge that was dismissed. And she don't know the difference in no contact and a ppo. I will seek guidance to take this lady to court of defamation of character, slander, among others. Your not gonna play with me freedom this way. Your gonna learn. I will also look into if the ABA can help in this. Your breaking the laws lady and you and your client are lying. I will expose you.

I hired Ms. Patrick upon being charged with Unlawful Imprisonment, Interfering with communications and assault and battery. I was so distraught and confused at first. Knowing I could possibly end up in prison for 15 years! Melissa first calmed me down and made me focus. I was then able to provide her with the information and evidence she requested. She listens and provides understanding in a confusing time with out judgement. I felt completely comfortable with her understanding her expert opinions and advisement. She guided me through the entire 2 years 9 months (due to Covid) that it took to go to trial after several plea offers. I'm more than greatful that I chose Melissa to represent me. And I am even more greatful to announce our verdict from the jury. It only took the jury about 20 minutes to reach a unanimous decision of NOT GUILTY on ALL counts as of Yesterday! Thank You Melissa! I truly believe you were God's choice.

I was really nervous when I reached out to her initially. She was in trial when I called. So it was a couple of days before I was able to speak with her. But once I spoke with her, she gave me confidence that she could resolve my issue. And she indeed did that with no problems.

Kevin and his staff have been outstanding to work with over the years helping us with our parents needs...first and foremost, understanding the next steps for our Mom when she developed Alzheimer's and needed to go into a nursing home. His assistance with getting through the Medicaid process was huge. Kevin's knowledge and help getting our father Veterans Aid & Attendance Benefits...we will be forever grateful...a very time consuming and grueling process. Kevin never hesitated to take a question or call back with answers. His compassion dealing with my father as he aged, and recent death...his kindness and understanding will never be forgotten. Kevin and his staff are the best!

My husband and I have been going to Mr. Gilhool for several years. This year, I recommended Mr. Gilhool to my brother for his elder care needs. We both find him to be efficient, extremely knowledgeable and very articulate and courteous. My brother and I both left Mr. Gilhool's office feeling confident and assured that all our needs were met. I highly recommend Mr. Gilhool for anyone needing elder law care.

At first, she was helpful. However, dealing with a difficult and controlling ex husband, I have made several calls to the office, sent emails wanting to fight for more rights for my son and I (right of first refusal was not in my decree). I wanted this added. I have not received a phone call back since last year. Countless phone calls and emails not answered can be very frustrating when you ex is out of the country and your son is staying with someone other than his mother.

I hired Justin Grech to represent me for my disability. He won my case and got me my social security disability which he was owed almost $6,000 from me, for representing me. Now I just lost ANOTHER $5,000 because he petitioned for more money which I find absolutely ridiculous! Don't hire him unless you want $12,000 of your own money given to him instead of you. What a joke!!!!

I tried for years to get SSI for my adult daughter who has a disability. No attorney would help me. Every attorney I went to would turn me down. One day, a friend referred me to Attorney Justen E Grech. She said, “He will help you.” I told her, “No he will not. He will be like all the other attorneys that would not give me a moment of their time.” To make a long story short, to my surprise, when I called him via telephone, he listened to me and scheduled an appointment to meet me and my daughter at his office. Nevertheless, I still had the belief that he will not help us. On the contrary, he did! My first meeting with him was very professional and courteous. He treated me and my daughter with great respect. He listened to my despair and anguish; and at the conclusion, he said, “I will help you…I never lost a case.” I wanted to cry with joy. Finally, there is a person who cares. It took years to find him, but I am so glad that journey is over. He did not abandon us; he represented us to the very end. If I had any questions, he made himself available to answer. Attorney Justen Grech was true to his words, that he never lost a case…he WON ours!!! If you are looking for Attorney that will sincerely help you, Justen E. Grech is that person. Thank you Attorney Justen E. Grech for your time and effort. – From: Raven and Crystal

I have enjoyed working with Cliff Weisberg since back in the early 1990's. During that time, his commitment and passion for children with disabilities. His effort to organize a law practice focusing upon helping the underserved who have disabilities has been so important to the families I serve: Families having children with severe inherited bleeding disorders. These disorders often prevent parents from holding jobs because their children are hospitalized so often. Working with Clif to help parents obtain SSI coverage has made it possible for these parents to have financial resources, albeit small in amounts, that make it possible to take care of their children without being totally financially devasted. I totally endorse Clif Wisberg for being an attorney who has and still does go above and beyond. I am very thankful for him!

I could have done better on my own. He had no knowledge of the law. I had to tell him to add both of my daughters to the child support formula and he had to double check that I was right and I was. My ex-wife did not have to do anything she was supposed to do because of the way he wrote the divorce decree. I’m still suffering 5 years after the divorce from the things he didn’t do. I lost everything and he didn’t tell me about court dates which made me lose parenting time as well. Decent person, horrible attorney!!

Mr. Rockafellow represented me in my recent divorce. He listened to my side of the story, and provided advice based my case and my facts. He worked with me on a payment plan; he wasn't the cheapest lawyer out there, but I decided I didn't want the cheapest. I wanted someone that would represent my best interests, and those of my children as well, and he made that possible. Mr. Rockafellow always returned my calls, when I couldn't make it to his office, he met me at a location convenient to me. He was honest throughout the process and I always knew what to expect.

This lawyer was very sloppy in court. He would often show up late. Every time I met with him, he would have food stains on his clothes. He doesn't seem very knowledgeable in landlord tenant law. I won this case on the grace of God. During meetings, he often spoke up for the opposing side instead of representing his client. He was also extremely rude during a follow up call once the case was over and he was paid in full. If your considering hiring this attorney, DON'T!

My family was looking for someone to represent a family member during a hearing, which Julie did. We had decided to have her represent our family member if our case ever did go to trial. I am so glad that we have decided not to. After the hearing, Julie stepped outside the waiting room, explained to my family and me what had occurred. I proceeded to translate everything to my family, as they do not fully understand English. I went on to translate to my family everything Julie said and was abruptly interrupted by her. She motioned her arms at us towards the door telling to wrap it up and leave. I was interrupted in mid-sentence explaining to my family what had just happened. It was very rude of Julie doing this, practically kicking us out of her office. It is very unprofessional of someone to tell you to get out of one's office the way she did. She may have a degree in law, but she has no sort of background knowledge in etiquette when treating her clients. My advice to her...we are in 2020, seek workshops, conferences, some sort of professional/moral development that will help you build your morals and etiquette if you want to be a successful lawyer. I am studying law, and I know for a fact already that the way you treated my family and me is not the way I will be treating my clients in the future.

I wish that there was a way to give him zero stars, he is probably one of the worst in Michigan, he acts as a good decent person, but he will literally work against you on your personal injury case or disability, he does not care for your well-being, or medical needs you might have as a result of an accident, and he definitely does not care for you to be compensated for your damages. He dragged my case for almost 3 years and then dropped out last minute, leaving me stranded, and on top of that he made it impossible for me to be able to hire any other attorney, by telling them that I was very hard to deal with person. He took my case even though his license was suspended in 2020. He did not answer any phone calls, messages or emails for the first six months of hiring him. He would pretend to work on your case, but actually not do any of what he says. He is the biggest liar I’ve ever met and he has no shame doing it. But he will make you feel as if you are in good hands so be careful. He caused a great deal of stress on top of what the intentional rear end accident and who ever is behind it all. Definitely not recommend anyone hiring this attorney. I have all the proof and audio recordings for him to completely lose his license, and I will not give up until I do so.. 0 out of 5

I had this attorney represent me in my disability case but he handed it off to his fellow rookie attorney and she helped get my case dismissed along with other people that she represented for him. They false advertise saying they help people every step of the way on their television commercials which that wasn’t true. The lie detector test determined that was a lie. I got denied because they put a rookie on my case like other cases that they know will get denied. They could have appealed my denial to the appeals counsel, re-applied, or appealed it to the federal court which they didn’t do any of that. If they did then that would be helping every step of the way.

I inquired of services for my disability case and had great difficulty getting return messages from his daughter, paralegal. Messages were ambiguous and my replies were systematically lost. When I called this practice “inept” and “incompetent” after they closed my case, Barry wrote me a long scolding message absolving himself of blame and threatening to call the police on me. Barry is obtuse, petty, and pissed that he’s not a judge anymore. He really would have liked to cite me in contempt. As it is, he is actually just an attorney that you don’t want to deal with if you are seeking results.

Help u every step of the way is false advertisement because he or his law firm would not appeal my case to the appeals counsel, re-apply for me, or appeal it to the federal court. My appointment was at 10:00 A.M I waited in the lobby until 10:15 and he still did not come out and get me so my fiancé and I left. Part of my disability is anxiety and being out of my home, which I explained to him over the phone before we set up the meeting time. I can not hire an attorney that is not prompt and not considerate of my disabilities in the first place.

What a Social Security & Disability Lawyer Can Do for You

A Social Security and Disability lawyer specializes in helping individuals navigate the complex process of applying for and securing Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. These lawyers assist clients in filing applications, gathering necessary medical evidence, appealing denied claims, and representing them in hearings before administrative law judges. A lawyer can help maximize the chances of approval by ensuring that the paperwork is accurate, deadlines are met, and legal standards are addressed.

If you are disabled and unable to work, or if your Social Security Disability claim has been denied, a Social Security and Disability lawyer can guide you through the legal process to obtain the benefits you’re entitled to.

When Should I Hire a Social Security & Disability Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer in the following situations:

  • Applying for SSDI or SSI benefits: The application process for disability benefits can be complex, with strict requirements and documentation. A lawyer can assist in completing the application correctly and submitting the required medical evidence to improve your chances of approval.
  • Denied disability claim: If your initial claim for SSDI or SSI benefits has been denied, a lawyer can help file an appeal and represent you in hearings. Many claims are denied initially, and having legal representation during the appeal process significantly increases the chances of success.
  • Requesting reconsideration: After an initial denial, you have the right to request reconsideration of your claim. A lawyer can help present new medical evidence or correct any errors in your original application.
  • Hearing before an administrative law judge (ALJ): If your reconsideration request is denied, you may request a hearing before an ALJ. A lawyer can represent you during the hearing, preparing you to answer questions and presenting a strong case based on your medical and work history.
  • Proving medical conditions: If your disability involves complex medical conditions, a lawyer can help gather expert medical testimony or additional evidence to demonstrate that your condition meets the legal criteria for disability.
  • Overpayments and cessation of benefits: If the Social Security Administration (SSA) claims you were overpaid or attempts to terminate your benefits, a lawyer can assist in challenging the decision and protect your right to continue receiving benefits.
  • SSI for low-income individuals: If you are applying for SSI, which is based on financial need in addition to disability, a lawyer can help ensure that your financial records are correctly submitted to meet SSA’s strict income and asset limits.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process can help you avoid mistakes that could delay or jeopardize your claim.

What Does a Social Security & Disability Lawyer Do?

A Social Security and Disability lawyer provides a range of services to help individuals navigate the application and appeals process for SSDI or SSI benefits. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Filing initial applications: A lawyer can help prepare and file your SSDI or SSI application, ensuring that all necessary forms are completed accurately and medical evidence is included.
  • Gathering medical evidence: A lawyer works with your doctors and healthcare providers to collect medical records, treatment histories, and expert opinions to support your disability claim.
  • Filing appeals: If your initial application is denied, a lawyer can file an appeal and guide you through the reconsideration process, ensuring that any additional documentation or evidence is provided.
  • Representing you in hearings: A lawyer will represent you in front of an administrative law judge, helping you prepare for the hearing and arguing your case to demonstrate that your disability prevents you from working.
  • Handling deadlines and paperwork: A lawyer will ensure that all deadlines are met, and that any requests for additional information from the SSA are responded to promptly.
  • Negotiating settlements (for private disability insurance claims): If your disability benefits claim involves private disability insurance (in addition to or instead of SSDI/SSI), a lawyer can help negotiate a fair settlement with the insurance company.
  • Fighting benefit terminations or overpayment claims: If the SSA attempts to terminate your benefits or claims you were overpaid, a lawyer can defend you in administrative proceedings or file for a waiver or reconsideration.

How Are Social Security & Disability Lawyers Paid?

Social Security and Disability lawyers are typically paid on a contingency fee basis, meaning they only get paid if your case is successful, either through the approval of your disability benefits or winning an appeal. Here's how it generally works:

  • Contingency fee: The fee is usually 25% of your past-due (backpay) benefits, but no more than $7,200. This fee structure is set by the SSA, and lawyers cannot charge more than this amount for SSDI or SSI cases.
  • No cost for future benefits: Lawyers are not entitled to any portion of your future monthly disability benefits. Their fee is strictly limited to a percentage of your backpay.
  • Additional costs: In some cases, you may need to pay for additional expenses, such as obtaining medical records or expert witness testimony. These costs are usually minimal, but it’s essential to ask your lawyer about any additional expenses upfront.

It’s essential to confirm fee arrangements with your lawyer during the initial consultation to avoid misunderstandings.

How Much Does a Social Security & Disability Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer is typically structured around the contingency fee system outlined by the SSA. General cost information includes:

  • Contingency fee: The lawyer’s fee is capped at 25% of your backpay, with a maximum of $7,200. For example, if you are awarded $10,000 in backpay, the lawyer will receive $2,500 (25%), and you will receive the remaining $7,500.

Overall, there is no financial risk in hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer, as they only get paid if your case is successful.

Top Questions to Ask a Social Security & Disability Lawyer

Before hiring a Social Security and Disability lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise to handle your case effectively. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with Social Security Disability cases?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling SSDI and SSI cases similar to yours, particularly if you have a complex medical condition.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Confirm that the lawyer charges a contingency fee and that you won’t owe any fees unless your claim is successful. Ask if there are any additional costs for medical records or other expenses.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of your case and the potential challenges you may face.
  4. How long will the process take?
Disability claims can take time, especially if you’re appealing a denial. Ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to last and what the typical timeline is for cases like yours.
  5. How will you help me prepare for my hearing?
If your case is going to a hearing before an administrative law judge, ask the lawyer how they will help you prepare for testimony and present your medical evidence effectively.
  6. What happens if I’m denied again?
Ask about the next steps if your reconsideration or appeal is denied, including the possibility of further appeals to federal court.

How to Check the Credibility of a Social Security & Disability Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable Social Security and Disability lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for Social Security experience: Review the lawyer’s website or profile to ensure they specialize in Social Security and Disability law and have successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on Social Security Disability matters.
  • Check for memberships in relevant organizations: Membership in organizations like the National Organization of Social Security Claimants' Representatives (NOSSCR) can indicate that the lawyer is committed to representing disability claimants.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a Social Security and Disability lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Medical records: Bring copies of your medical records, including doctor’s notes, test results, treatment histories, and any disability-related diagnoses.
  • List of medications and treatments: Provide a detailed list of any medications you are taking, treatments you have received, and ongoing medical care related to your disability.
  • Denial letters (if applicable): If your disability claim has been denied, bring a copy of the denial letter from the SSA, along with any documentation related to your appeal.
  • Work history: Provide information about your previous jobs and work history, including details about how your disability has impacted your ability to work.
  • Social Security application (if already filed): If you’ve already submitted an application, bring a copy of the application and any correspondence you’ve had with the SSA.
  • List of questions: Prepare a list of questions you have about the legal process, the lawyer’s fees, and what to expect in terms of timelines and outcomes.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your case more effectively and provide the best possible legal advice tailored to your situation.
