Howdie. I wanted to tell you that we had a wonderful experience with Mr Anderson. He is very knowledgable and helpful. He answered all of our questions, and I mean all of the questions. We had so many, I did not think we would get answers to all, and yet we did. He has helped us out tramendously. I would recommend him. He made us feel that we were important and that we mattered. What a wonderful person in general. He cared about what we had to say and answered our endless question. Thank you.

Steve was recommended to us from a family real estate professional in the Spokane area. We found Steve to be efficient and highly effective in resolving our issue while cognizant of the economics involved. Our matter settled out of court with full receipt of our expected recovery in just a matter of a few weeks. We would highly recommend Steve to anyone seeking sound legal and financially reasonable advice.

Harvest Timber a selective logging Co. was audited by the IRS, & not like we assumed; they can audit you back 3 years. Their law is they can audit you back 3 years, from any date they choose, in the time frame you have been in business, in our case was 1981-1983.This was all the agent took our check book ledger, then recorded every check with a first & last name, not a business name ,, as a employee. Long story made short according to the IRS we owed 325K w/out penalties. We had to prove every employee, & sub-contractor pd their taxes, which they already had that documentation, but stated they do not have to release the information to we the defendants. There were many names we were note able to locate to get their Income tax return forms, for it was 30 yrs ago. Those people we had no proof on but new the paid their taxes because they cashed their return checks at the bar we also owned, but IRS wanted us to pay their taxes again. Well they got fooled, Bob raked them over the coal, & always said, don't be scared let them know you know your rights, & their history as a illegal co. operating out of Cuba, so it is hard to sue a foreign CO. or Agent. (That work w/ the phony Central Bank (also Illegal) & the Rothschild's. we ended up owing 10K, less than it cost the IRS in attorney fees. Thank You so much Bob, You are not only a great Attorney, your a good friend. I recommend higher than any attorney we ever had.

Why Nick Pontarolo should represent you if you have been injured on the job! Read this Post to the end and you will clearly see why you need Nick and this Firm! I'm 65 years old and have worked hard Construction Labor for most of my life until I injured my shoulder at the end of 2018. That is when I opened my first "Workers Comp Claim" and after many Exams, Tests and Scans, an Orthopedic Surgeon told me that I had "Stage 4 Osteoarthritis" on top of other serious complications that would have caused me to need a Shoulder Replacement in the very near future, especially if I kept working at my trade. I did not seek any legal counsel at the time and had to go back to work "light duty" in spite of my ongoing condition. I then was immediately reinjured after being taken off of "light duty" in middle of 2019! I saw the "Company's Preferred Doctor" that wouldn't even prescribe pain medication, despite the obvious pain I was in. I decided to call a good friend of mine that is an Employment Attorney in Portland to ask his advice. He told me that he would find me good Attorney in Spokane and through his research he gave me a short list and Nick Pontarolo's name was right on top. I called Nick and he took immediate action and control as he represented and guided me through a maze of "BUREAUCRATIC RED TAPE" involving Doctors, Employers, Attorneys, Therapists, Vocational Rehabilitation Councilors and even more. Because of Nick's connections, I have had one of the premier Shoulder Surgeons in the Country replace my shoulder and some of the best rehabilitation experts throughout the region working with me as well. While all this was going on, I never missed a "Time Loss' compensation check for 4+ years. I'm now retired, and my claim just closed and without Nick's professional representation and expertise for these last 4+ years, I truly believe that I would have lost everything I've ever worked for my entire life. Nick, You treated me like family and did an incredible job and for that I am forever grateful... Patrick PS- Also, I want to thank all the Attorney's and Office Staff for the combined team effort and supporting rolls you all played for my well-being and all while I was enjoying the view from the 12th floor of the Chase Bank Building Downtown Spokane.

My husband was heavily medicated as he was under hospice care for stage 4 cancer. I was medicated due to depression. Mr Curran was recommended to us by Spokane Hospice as someone who would come to our house to update my husband's will. I do not believe Mr Curran did his best work for us. My husband was very distraught and agitated, I did my best not to upset him anymore than necessary, and signed off on his will. Unfortunately, even though he asked if I understood what I was signing off on, I still signed, walked away crying and let the witnesses finish up with the lawyer. I understood that the will said everything was going to his children, but I also assumed I could contest the will, as signing was an act of kindness to a dying man, who repeatedly told me not to worry, that I was being taken care of. When Mr Curran left our home, he took my phone with him. It was three days of me looking before he called to say he had it. When my husband passed away his sisters were the executors of the estate. Imagine my suprise when 5 weeks after his passing, after living in this house for 10 years, I was served with an eviction notice... 3 days to get out, served on me by his sister and written up by none other than Mr Curran. Was he my husband's lawyer or his sister's lawyer? I felt there was some conflict of interest... probably wrong on that point, but still I don't think he took in my husband's mental state, or mine, into consideration. He most certainly did not consider what happened to me afterwards, and Oh My Gosh. He took my phone.

Christopher S. Crago referred my “open & shut” case to his former professor and mentor from Gonzaga University, Professor Milton G. Rowland, one year before the statute-of-limitations ran out on my TORT claim against the VA Hospital. I paid Milton Rowland $1000 in check form as a retainer for legal filings. He lost the check, never told me, found the check then deposited it after the statue-of limitations had expired on my case. He filed 10 days late with another client’s case pasted into my claim. It failed due to statute of limitations running out, not the ridiculous filing which included another of his clients. A teary-eyed Milton said he would retire and help me claim against his malpractice insurance, which he stated he had never used in his career. This was a stalling tactic he offered at every conversation until I said "Okay" thinking he was trying to get me off his books. He immediately "FIRED" me and said he was no longer my attorney. Before this and without my knowledge Milton’s decided to try a “work around” and filed a completely unproductive BIVEN’S claim that was a further stalling tactic, the judge stated it was impossible to serve as written and was very confusing. No one was ever served because he failed to list them. Milton directed me to McNeice Wheeler, who is full of his Gonzaga students, they spoke of the love for Milton, his family, and his difficulties in life etc., (see court transcripts for those details after my case is heard in court. CASE #: 22-2-00580-32). Then these former Gonzaga students stated they don't handle that type of claim. NOW, that Milton Rowland cost me my only avenue for justice against the Veterans Administration, I reached back out to Christopher S. Crago. His response, “Hi Eric - The attorneys at McNeice Wheeler are reviewing your case. I am not a litigator so I am unable to assist you.” Chris (From iPhone) Christopher Crago offered no apologies for adding to the devastation I have already endured by his throwing a “bone” to a former Gonzaga teacher who is not the attorney he once was. Thank you, Chris, FOR YOUR SERVICE.

I'm not sure where other reviews are coming from, but Bruce Hondle handled my legal matters with the utmost professionalism, knowledge, foresight, and suggested things my past attorney's never thought of, he is on top of his game, extremely knowledgeable and was upfront with everything the entire step-of-the way. Not only is Bruce Hondle a superb attorney but also a darn great CPA with up-to-date tax-law knowledge. His attention to detail is second-to-none and sets him apart from the rest, extremely important when drafting documents and financial planning. I agree with the other two clients who also gave him poor ratings, and stated. (Mr. Hondle takes advantage of people. For example: he will charge you for a 10 second response to a phone message but use his full bilabial rate.) (And instead of speaking over the phone, he would rather send an itemized letter stating all of the things you owe him money for, and then not return your calls if you want to question him.) These statements above are true as I also have experienced them with Mr. Hondle as are estate attorney. Once was more than enough. About the only time Mr. Hondle would return my calls was when another one of high-priced exorbitant bills were due. Mr. Hondle conducted his business with us in a completely unprofessional manner, and charged us a small fortune! Mr. Hondle does not even have his own office, as he works out of his house.

Robb quoted a price over the phone, but didn’t honor it. When we met he spent a lot if time talking about himself, skiiing, and his injury and then charged us for it, even when we attempted to move the conversation forward. What a Tax Lawyer Can Do for You

A tax lawyer specializes in the complex area of tax law, offering legal advice and representation on matters related to tax compliance, disputes with tax authorities, and tax planning. Tax lawyers help individuals, businesses, and organizations navigate the intricacies of federal, state, and local tax laws. They ensure that clients are compliant with tax regulations, minimize tax liabilities, and represent them in audits, appeals, or disputes with tax authorities such as the IRS.

Whether you need assistance with personal taxes, corporate tax strategy, or resolving an audit, a tax lawyer can protect your rights and help you manage your financial responsibilities.

When Should I Hire a Tax Lawyer?

Hiring a tax lawyer is advisable in several situations where tax issues are complicated, disputes arise, or legal strategies are necessary to manage tax liability. Common reasons to hire a tax lawyer include:

  • Tax audits or disputes with the IRS: If you are facing an audit or have received a notice of deficiency from the IRS, a tax lawyer can represent you and defend your rights during the process.
  • Tax debt relief: If you owe back taxes or face significant tax liabilities, a tax lawyer can help negotiate a payment plan, settlement, or Offer in Compromise with the IRS.
  • Tax planning for businesses or individuals: A tax lawyer can advise on strategies to minimize tax liabilities through legal deductions, credits, and other tax-saving mechanisms.
  • International tax issues: If you have foreign assets or income, a tax lawyer can help you comply with international tax laws, such as the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) or Foreign Bank Account Reporting (FBAR) requirements.
  • Tax fraud or evasion accusations: If you're being investigated or charged with tax fraud or evasion, a tax lawyer can provide a defense and negotiate with the authorities to minimize penalties.
  • Corporate tax law compliance: Businesses, especially large corporations, benefit from the expertise of a tax lawyer who can handle complex issues such as mergers and acquisitions, employee benefits, and international tax planning.
  • Estate and gift tax planning: A tax lawyer can help you minimize estate taxes and ensure your assets are passed on efficiently through trusts, wills, and other tax-efficient structures.

Hiring a tax lawyer early can prevent costly mistakes and ensure you are fully compliant with all applicable tax laws.

What Does a Tax Lawyer Do?

A tax lawyer provides a wide range of services to assist clients with tax compliance, tax planning, and legal disputes. Their key responsibilities include:

  • Tax planning and advisory: Helping individuals and businesses plan their tax strategies to reduce liability, avoid penalties, and maximize deductions and credits.
  • Representing clients in tax disputes: Defending clients in disputes with the IRS or state tax authorities, including audits, appeals, and collections actions.
  • Filing Offers in Compromise: Negotiating settlements with the IRS for clients who owe more than they can afford to pay.
  • Handling tax litigation: Representing clients in tax court or other legal proceedings if a tax dispute escalates beyond the administrative level.
  • Estate and gift tax planning: Advising clients on how to structure their estate to minimize estate and gift taxes, including creating trusts, family partnerships, or charitable giving plans.
  • Assisting with tax fraud investigations: Defending clients accused of tax fraud, evasion, or criminal tax offenses.
  • International tax compliance: Advising clients with offshore assets on U.S. tax compliance and reporting requirements, including FATCA and FBAR.

How Are Tax Lawyers Paid?

Tax lawyers typically charge for their services in various ways, depending on the complexity of the work involved and the nature of the legal assistance required. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many tax lawyers charge by the hour, especially for complex cases or ongoing legal work such as audit defense, tax litigation, or corporate tax planning. Hourly rates can range from $200 to $600 or more, depending on the lawyer's experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For specific tasks, such as preparing a legal document, filing an Offer in Compromise, or handling a routine audit, some lawyers charge a flat fee.
  • Retainer: For businesses or individuals with ongoing tax needs, a lawyer may require a retainer, which is an upfront payment used to secure the lawyer’s services and billed against as work is completed.
  • Contingency fee: In rare cases, particularly when negotiating settlements or resolving tax debts, a lawyer may charge a contingency fee based on the outcome of the case. This means they only get paid if they succeed in reducing your tax liability.

Always ask about the fee structure during the initial consultation to avoid surprises and ensure you understand how the lawyer will charge for their services.

How Much Does a Tax Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a tax lawyer depends on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the specific services required. Here are some general cost estimates:

  • Simple tax issues: For straightforward cases such as filing an Offer in Compromise or handling a routine audit, fees may range from $2,000 to $7,500.
  • Complex tax disputes: For more complicated cases, such as defending against tax fraud accusations, handling a significant IRS audit, or resolving international tax issues, costs can range from $10,000 to $50,000 or more, depending on the time and effort involved.
  • Hourly rates: Tax lawyers typically charge between $200 and $600 per hour, with higher rates for more experienced attorneys or cases involving high-stakes outcomes.
  • Flat fees: For specific services, such as tax planning for an estate or preparing a legal document, a flat fee may range from $1,000 to $10,000, depending on the complexity of the task.

Always get a detailed estimate of fees during your consultation so you can plan your budget accordingly.

Top Questions to Ask a Tax Lawyer

Before hiring a tax lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they are the best fit for your situation. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with tax law?
Ensure the lawyer has specific experience handling cases or issues similar to yours, whether it’s IRS disputes, corporate tax planning, or estate taxes.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify the lawyer’s fee structure - whether it’s hourly, flat fee, or retainer - and ask for an estimate of the total cost of your case.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
Ask the lawyer to provide an honest assessment of your situation and the possible outcomes, such as tax reductions, settlements, or litigation results.
  4. Have you handled cases like mine before?
Find out if the lawyer has experience with issues similar to yours, such as international tax compliance, criminal tax defense, or complex estate planning.
  5. What is the timeline for my case?
Ask how long it will take to resolve your tax issue or dispute, as some tax matters can take months or years to fully settle.
  6. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may do much of the work. Clarify who will be handling your case day-to-day.

How to Check the Credibility of a Tax Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable tax lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Check their bar status: Verify with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing, with no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for specific tax law expertise: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in tax law and have handled cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s expertise and service.
  • Ask for references: A credible tax lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can vouch for their ability to handle complex tax matters.
  • Look for professional affiliations: Membership in organizations like the American Bar Association’s Section of Taxation or the National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP) can indicate that the lawyer stays current with tax law developments.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with a tax lawyer, it’s essential to come prepared with all relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Tax returns and records: Bring copies of recent tax returns, especially those related to the issue you're facing.
  • IRS correspondence: If you’ve received notices from the IRS or state tax authorities, bring all relevant documentation.
  • Financial records: Bring records of income, expenses, assets, and any other relevant financial documents that the lawyer may need to understand your tax situation.
  • List of questions: Prepare a list of questions to ask the lawyer about your case, the legal process, and the potential outcomes.
  • Timeline of events: Provide a clear timeline of any interactions with the IRS or tax authorities, including audits, notices, or payment demands.

By being well-prepared, you can ensure a productive consultation and help the lawyer assess your situation effectively, providing you with the best legal advice moving forward.
