I called Baker Law Group for some initial advice on a potential legal problem, and my experience was fantastic. Michelle was great to speak with initially. Robert, senior counsel, was very knowledgeable and spent extra time with me helping me strategize and giving me preliminary advice. Would 100% recommend.

I recently contracted with this firm for an HOA dispute. During the consultation, the attorney said we couldnt litigate it due to language in our HOA rules. The billing after the initial consultation took advantage of us and I will never recommend this firm to any colleagues, friends or family members. We were told that our consultation fees should cover most of the letter that we agreed on to have sent out. We were asked to put a deposit of $1500 for potential negotiations with our HOA after the letter process. No negotiations took place and we were charged over 2K for a letter that we basically gave all the information to supply. After we were denied to negotiate from the receivers of this letter, the attorney told us that if we wanted to sue, they would send us to litigation. But I thought we couldn't sue? They phoned it in and then had the audacity to charge us for asking a question about the billing on top of that. If we were originally told one letter would cost us over $2600 we would have never retained their services.

Couldn’t recommend Brian at Baker Law more if I tried! He took the time to explain the steps I would need to take in the future so that I’m not floundering the moment I lose a loved one, or feel lost in where to start first. He took the time to listen to my situation with zero judgement. He was very honest, and knowledgeable, and never once tried to “sell” me on a service I wouldn’t need. Highly highly recommend!

Mintz law firm was wonderful to work with regarding my case. It took a while to close up but that’s to be expected. They fought to get me the maximum amount they could and would check in with me periodically during my treatment to see how I was doing. This was my first time dealing with something like this and they made my experience smooth and made me feel important to them.

I thought it was pretty unprofessional when I was called back by someone in the office (paralegal?) to demand my business after telling them I was more comfortable with another attorney. Is it your company's policy to berate potential clients and attempt to bully them into working with your firm? This attitude may have worked decades ago but it shows how out of touch your law office is with the times. Typical ambulance chaser behavior.

Liz Kearney helped me during one of the most stressful and emotional time of my life when enduring employment discrimination and hostile work environment issues within a government entity. She was always professional, dedicated, trustworthy, and represented my case with integrity and drive. I was very satisfied with the outcome of my case, mostly because to Liz, I was a person and not just a case number. She listened to me when I desired to bring forth evidence and information to support my claims and she fought for me in my own drive for acknowledgment and justice. I highly recommend attorney Liz Kearney. Her intelligence, perseverance, knowledge of the laws, and refusal to be intimidated by high power agencies and personnel was very much appreciated during such a traumatic time.

I couldn't have asked for a better outcome and it's all because of Erika. She's professional, down to earth, relatable, crazy smart and the best at what she does. In the beginning it felt like this firm truly had my children's best interest at heart. My case played out for over 3 years. After "winning" at trial with further litigation to take place, I was struck with an uneasy feeling. I felt bullied into a settlement as the attorneys were fed up with my case. Many people had told me over the duration of my case that things weren't quite adding up and that my attorney did not seem to have our best interests at heart. I began to reflect on the case and all the inconsistencies, placating to the other side and capitulating to them as well. I then conferred with another attorney and ended up retaining her services to finish out my case. Upon the new attorney's review of my case, she stated this case was a mess, and she was flabbergasted at all the litigation that was allowed to take place. She mentioned there was a much more direct way to have gone about this case, less money and time wasted, not to mention my children's mental and emotional health. My worst feelings had been confirmed. It is a relief to finally have someone on my case who is truly for the children and not the money.

Wouldn't recommended. Disappointing as he was recommended to me by a friend.

Mr Garcia handled my first family case for me in which I was facing losing my kids due to false allegations. Mr. Garcia protected my rights as a parent and the case went in my favor. Michael was very direct and straightforward regarding my situation. I did not have to repeatedly try and get updates from Mr. Garcia. I gave him anything I could to help him in my case, continued on in my day to day tasks while having trust and remaining patient. My case was over with the results I wanted before the judge even heard my case. I then looked to Mr. Garcia to represent me in another family law case. When I arrived I was more than 5 hours late for our scheduled appointment however Mr. Garcia still managed to fit us in his schedule. My experience when using other attorneys was that they make you feel as you need them only because they want your money. Mr. Garcia did exactly opposite. He literally reenacted the court process as if we were in the court room with the judge himself. He explained to me the correct terminology, how to file paperwork, how to present my case as well as told me what to expect from her attorney and how to protect myself against the things he would do or say. After leaving his office I really felt as I could handle the case alone however I felt it's best to leave that to someone experienced. Mr. Garcia's rates are a little higher than others, however the cost for reassurance and results is little compared to the relationship between me and my children. I would highly recommend Mr. Garcia to others as well as use him for any other family court issues.

Cullen was hired based on a referral from Tessa. I had been assaulted by my spouse, who was a former special forces operative and had tried to strangled me to death with our kids in the house. I had very little experience with attorneys. I was in shock and had no family to support me. Leading up to my permanent protection order hearing, I offered over and over if we needed witnesses or documents submitted. There was the woman who had met me at the hospital. The officer who made the arrest and others who had been involved. Cullen was dismissive and said it wasn't needed. She also never informed me of my rights as a victim of a violent crime. My assailant mocked me as I shakily gathered my belongings after going through security. When Cullen arrived for my hearing, she failed to even bring my file. She was disheveled and had nothing prepared. She asked if she could borrow my personal file. She told me to call my 19 year old daughter, who was watching her younger siblings and ask her to come testify. She scrambled to find a sitter and get there asap. A DV advocate who had worked with me was there for another hearing and on the spot, Cullen asked her to testify. It was completely haphazard. The judge even commented that Cullen was unprepared and offered to extend the protection order but stated that there had not been enough evidence presented by Cullen to justify a permanent order. I paid this woman a substantial amount and she failed to even show up with my file. It was an awful experience.

The very first conversation I had with this lady not just showed me a flicker of hope but also that I'm not as invisible as I feel. She has shown me that someone will listen and someone will hear you. I have no doubts in my mind that this lady will represent me to the capitol letter of her name as long as I show that I am worth fighting for. That 1 star review I read comes from anonymous... Seems like you were a coward afraid to fight for yourself or even let your name be known. I hope you learn and grow from this and make better decisions in the future.

I was going through a very messy and sinister divorce. My ex filed a Petition for Guardianship in Summit County pertaining to my son with Down Syndrome. In the petition my ex claimed that my son had been living with him for the past 2 years , while in fact, my son was living with me in Centennial , Colorado. In the petition my ex had stated he was the "psychological" father. My ex was not his father. nor had he made any attempt to adopt him during the 17 year marriage. I am so fortunate to have had this attorney referred to me. He was referred by another Attorney not a past client. Marco immediately took control of the situation. He is extremely intelligent , results oriented, and aggressively represents his clients. His confidence gave me hope. The haze and smoke generated by my ex never confused Marco. I can not say the same for a most of my other attorneys. I was so fortunate to have had him as an attorney. My ex was evil and Marco protected me and my son from this villain. I wish he could have been my divorce attorney!!I My daughter may have had a chance too. My ex venomously pursued taking both my children for one purpose and that was out of shear hate and revenge. He did get custody of my daughter and at age 16, dumped her in a condo to live by herself. Who knows what would have happened to my son? I count my blessings every day that my son is with me, happy, and safe. Marco was HANDS DOWN THE BEST!

After experiencing being taken advantage of a very prominent law firm here in Denver , we were introduced to the Marco Chayet whom put us at ease within the first meeting with he and staff. I felt we covered more ground in one week then we did in nearly 9 months with our other attorney. We were treated professionally, I never was judged and we were always informed throughout the whole ordeal. Not once did we ever question the service being provided. It is my duty to tell this to others so maybe you do not make the same mistake as we did. Do not be fooled by the fancy suits and the pretty receptionist in thinking that you are in good hands because theres a lot of money hanging around.. My family was vulnerable and as a result were taken advantage of which in turn paid for those fancy suits. Do yourself a favor and go meet a real human being named Marco D Chayet who will do everything in his power to make sure that you are well taken care of. My only regret is that we didn't go to him first. If you read this Marco and staff, Bravo.....Thank you.

On our personal legal work, she was very thorough and compassionate. On our real estate legal work she was very helpful and supportive. On our HOA needs, our whole HOA was highly satisfied. We originally had gone to another HOA attorney who gave us incorrect information. Ms. Noriyuki gave us correct information and our needs prevailed. I hired Ms. Noriyuki to handle a fairly simple contract litigation. She soon seemed "over her head", which made her insecure and very rude and snotty to me as her client. She shared client information with opposing counsel--who is also County Counsel in the areal--as if he was her "buddy", but without concern for her client or the rules of professional conduct. When asked if she was "over her head" she withdrew as counsel for me, without consent--basically abandonment--in a most unprofessional way. She charged $12,000.00 for this lame representation. She worked about 6 months, but accomplished next to nothing. I would strongly recommend against hiring her. I am a CEO and highly educated, and am familiar with what to expect from an attorney, who does their job well. Being represented by Ms. noriyuki was greatly disappointing.

Since 2008 my family members have retained Clara Brown Shaffer to council and prepare family and individual estate plans. Many times none of our family members understood the maze of meetings, networks and representations required to carry out trusts, special needs trusts, irrevocable trusts and the updates required to keep all of our trusts and estate plans current with annual legal changes. Clara Brown Shaffer maintained contact and gave direction so our ability to choose was based on quality of information, professionalism of council and not haste or time constraints caused by many sources. Furthermore, Clara Brown Shaffer was retained in 2014 after an untimely divorce, deaths of family members and diagnoses of primary handicapping disorders in new members of our family. These changes, after just six short years demanded a little restructuring of our individual and shared estates. As a tremendous credit to Ms. Brown Shaffer, even after a divorce, both parties chose to retain her for additional representation. Her abilities to negotiate and handle diverging estates while, all the time, aligning the trusts that represented individual demands are unmatched. My experiences with other Estate Planning attorneys are worth mentioning as well. Ms Brown Shaffer with Brown & Brown, P.C. along with support staff stands as the foremost representation of Estate Planning. My experiences with Estate Planning attorneys with other firms stem from as far back as 1988. Five different legal firms, have tackled the enormous estate planning for our diverse family's needs. All too often, documents go unsigned, questions go answered, but did we ask the right questions? Did we pose the positions correctly to satisfy converging, shared and diverging assets? The answer was yes! But the missing link was in the follow up provided by Ms. Shaffer. She tried to direct us through the maze of trusts and especially special needs trusts and exhaustive qualifications, but we were having trouble aligning what needed to happen and stay with a schedule. Ms. Brown Shaffer rescued us and did more than all other firms. Her organization and scheduling brought our estate planning to positive closure. As a testament to Ms. Brown Shaffer, Trusts were created by other firms but they never considered the true depth of involvement to provide the extensive additional sections for the protections of family members. We finally learned the depth of trust law and estate law. Through Ms. Shaffer's extensive guidance, our options became clear choices. Ms. Shaffer dauntingly handled the documentation and assembly required to tie shared assets and address individual assets. With alternatives and clear choice of paths directed through conditional occurrence we realized what a tremendous asset Clara Brown Shaffer had become to our family. When the time came to sign the trusts and extensive documentation, there was finally, no doubt from anyone. For the 1st time since our growing and shrinking family's attempt to create estate planning in 1988, everything was aligned, documented and signed. That 1st happened in 2008 and again in 2014. I have peace of mind knowing that my final wishes and choices are made and I am confident I can depart without regret. You can only achieve peace through passing if you have a great plan in place and the education provided through proper council. I remain pleased through my choices with my family through blood, marriage and war. I have peace of mind and I sleep better at night. God Loves You Clara Brown Shaffer and my family does too!

We were disappointed with Ms. Shaffer's performance with regard to a relative's will, trust and estate matters. She is basically a paperwork attorney, and when other issues arose, her knowledge and experience were inadequate to deal with them. Since you can never tell when additional issues are going to arise with regard to will, trust and estate matters (and they very likely can), if you want a lawyer who is prepared and willing to handle a wider range of situations, we would advise seeking another attorney.

For starters, his assistant is exceptionally forgetful. I had to send her the same information repeatedly despite the fact the information is right there in the files. That actually applies to Mr. Finlayson as well. Exceptionally forgetful and asked questions to which he already had the answers in the files. My adult children were in need of estate assistance and I hired Mr. Finlayson for them. After the initial visit with Mr. Finlayson the kids felt as though he was only dragging things out just to get more money. I'd like to add that just because I was paying for his services for my kids' case doesn't mean he should have been talking to me about their case. They are adults. I recommend you go elsewhere.

I am out of state, from the land of lawyers in the Washington DC metro area. I had great luck with Mark in Colorado Springs. I found him to be extremely perceptive and knowledgeable in elder law. he was very cordial and settled my father's nerves. He provided us with invaluable assistance and on short notice. Moreover, his fees were VERY affordable and reasonable. I can't speak highly enough for him. Anyone who rates this attorney at anything less than excellent must have a chip on their shoulder or had a bad case and they are now blaming the attorney for their own mess.

Kris helped us with an estate plan and was very helpful and thorough. She knows special needs trusts and helped us understand how to move things into the trust and what to leave out.

This Attorney was very cold, unproffesional, and even lied to me. She created a problem between my family because of her lies and misconduct toward me and my sig. Other. My father in law had hired her. She milks the client stretching out things in an unecessary way.

I had hired Alison Zinn Sheahen at Lathrop GPM - Denver to contest my stepfather‘s will/trust when I found out upon his death that he had changed it prior to passing away but 22 years after the initial one was written. This was a multi million dollar estate so there was a lot of money involved. I believe he had changed it due to undue influence and lack of testamentary capacity and I needed medical records to prove the latter. Alison had given me hope of at least a settlement and had told me that people settle all the time. I asked her to start the process so that we can get copies of my stepfather‘s medical records. (He was most likely going through cancer treatments and there were some signs that he might have had dementia/Alzheimer’s – he wrote Merry Christmas on the birthday check he had sent to me in the month of May.) She however did not do that. Instead after she had spoken with the other attorney (my Stepfather’s attorney who was handling the estate), Alison did a complete 180 and told me that my stepfather had every right to change his will. If that were the case, then the right to contest a will would not exist. However, the right to contest a will does exist and people are able to contest wills based on undue influence, lack of testamentary capacity, etc.. Also, after Alison Zinn / Sheahen had spoken with the opposing attorney, she told me that the opposing attorney told her that my stepfather was of sound mind when he changed his will. I had asked her to start the process of contesting the will so that we could get my stepfather’s medical records…… not get the opinion of the opposing attorney on the soundness of my stepfather’s mind. He is a lawyer, not a doctor. His word is an opinion, it is not fact. This was a case I believe in which lack of testamentary capacity would’ve been easy to prove if I had been able to obtain my stepfather’s medical records. However, once again, Alison did not start the process of contesting the will for me and she did not start the process of obtaining my stepfather’s medical records like I had asked. She had only proceeded to tell me that my stepfather was of sound mind because the other attorney told her so and that my stepfather had every right to change his will. I had one shot at this and unfortunately I trusted this attorney and this firm to do as I had requested and to help me contest my stepfather’s will/trust and to help me obtain my stepfather’s medical records and they did neither. Alison is a lawyer who was supposed to have fought for me on my behalf and she did not. When I filed a complaint with Lathrop GPM corporate, after telling my side of the story, I was told that I was well represented. I cannot believe that taking the word of the other attorney on medical issues and not doing what I had asked her to do, was being well represented.

My husband and I hired Alison Zinn at a very difficult time in our lives. We needed immediate action and did not know what to do next. Alison outlined an effective plan or us and started execution immediately. Almost two years later we are on the other side of our crisis with all positive outcomes. I hate to think of where we would be today if we hadn’t met Alison. I very highly recommend her.

What a Trusts Lawyer Can Do for You

A trusts lawyer specializes in creating and managing trusts, which are legal entities that allow individuals to transfer assets to beneficiaries while maintaining control over how and when those assets are distributed. Trusts are used for estate planning, asset protection, tax planning, and ensuring the financial security of loved ones. Trusts lawyers help clients choose the right type of trust for their needs, draft trust documents, and advise on the administration and management of trusts.

Whether you're planning to pass on your assets to your heirs, protect your wealth from creditors, or provide for a disabled family member, a trusts lawyer can help you establish a trust that meets your financial and personal goals.

When Should I Hire a Trusts Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a trusts lawyer in various situations, particularly when you're planning for the future distribution of your assets or protecting your wealth. Common reasons to hire a trusts lawyer include:

  • Estate planning: If you want to ensure that your assets are distributed according to your wishes, a lawyer can help you create a revocable or irrevocable trust to avoid probate and provide for your heirs.
  • Asset protection: If you want to protect your assets from creditors, lawsuits, or potential future liabilities, a lawyer can help you establish a trust to shield your wealth.
  • Special needs planning: If you have a disabled family member, a lawyer can create a special needs trust to provide for their care without affecting their eligibility for government benefits.
  • Tax planning: If you're looking to minimize estate taxes or manage tax liabilities, a lawyer can help you create tax-advantageous trusts, such as a credit shelter trust or charitable remainder trust.
  • Charitable giving: If you want to leave a legacy through charitable donations, a lawyer can help you set up a charitable trust to ensure your donations are managed according to your wishes.
  • Business succession planning: If you own a business and want to ensure a smooth transition of ownership, a lawyer can help you establish a trust to pass the business on to your heirs or chosen successors.

Hiring a trusts lawyer early in the estate planning process ensures that your assets are protected and your wishes are clearly documented, reducing the chances of disputes after your death.

What Does a Trusts Lawyer Do?

A trusts lawyer provides a variety of legal services to help individuals create, manage, and administer trusts. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Drafting trust documents: Preparing the legal documents needed to create the trust, ensuring it is tailored to your specific goals and complies with state and federal laws.
  • Choosing the right type of trust: Assisting clients in selecting the most appropriate type of trust for their needs, whether it's a revocable trust, irrevocable trust, living trust, or special needs trust.
  • Trust administration: Guiding trustees through their legal responsibilities, including managing assets, making distributions to beneficiaries, and filing tax returns.
  • Modifying or terminating trusts: Helping modify or terminate trusts if circumstances change, such as changes in tax laws, family situations, or personal preferences.
  • Protecting beneficiaries' interests: Structuring trusts to protect the interests of beneficiaries, especially if there are concerns about financial management, disability, or dependency issues.
  • Minimizing estate taxes: Assisting clients in structuring their trusts to minimize or avoid estate taxes, ensuring more of the estate passes to beneficiaries.
  • Handling disputes: Mediating or representing clients in court if disputes arise among beneficiaries or between trustees and beneficiaries.

How Are Trusts Lawyers Paid?

Trusts lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the trust and the type of legal work involved. Common payment methods include:

  • Flat fee: For drafting basic trusts, such as revocable living trusts or special needs trusts, many lawyers charge a flat fee. This can range from $1,000 to $5,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the trust.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex trust planning, ongoing trust administration, or resolving disputes, some lawyers charge by the hour. Hourly rates typically range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Retainer: For long-term trust administration or complex estate planning cases, some lawyers may require a retainer, an upfront payment that covers ongoing services.
  • Contingency fee (rare): In rare cases, particularly in disputes involving the administration of a trust, lawyers may work on a contingency fee basis, getting paid only if they successfully recover funds or resolve a legal dispute in your favor.

Always discuss the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand the total cost of services.

How Much Does a Trusts Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a trusts lawyer depends on the complexity of the trust, the lawyer’s experience, and the fee structure. General cost estimates include:

  • Basic trust creation: For simple trusts, such as revocable living trusts, fees may range from $1,000 to $3,000.
  • Complex trust creation: For sophisticated estate plans involving multiple trusts, tax planning strategies, or special needs considerations, legal fees may range from $5,000 to $10,000 or more.
  • Trust administration: If you are serving as a trustee and need ongoing legal advice, hourly rates for trust administration can range from $150 to $500 or more.
  • Dispute resolution: Costs for litigation or mediation in trust disputes may range from $5,000 to $50,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case.

Be sure to get a detailed cost estimate from your lawyer during the consultation to ensure the services fit within your budget.

Top Questions to Ask a Trusts Lawyer

Before hiring a trusts lawyer, consider asking the following questions:

  1. What experience do you have with creating trusts?
Ensure the lawyer has experience drafting trusts and managing trust administration for clients with similar goals or asset structures.
  2. What types of trusts do you recommend for my situation?
Ask the lawyer to explain the different types of trusts available and which ones best suit your needs.
  3. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify the fee structure and request an estimate of the total cost.
  4. What are the tax implications of the trust?
Ensure the lawyer can explain how the trust will affect your taxes and strategies to minimize tax liability.
  5. How long will it take to set up the trust?
Ask for a timeline for creating and finalizing the trust documents.
  6. Will you handle the trust administration?
If ongoing management is required, inquire whether the lawyer will assist with trust administration or if you'll need a separate trustee.
  7. Can you help resolve disputes if they arise?
Ask about the lawyer's experience in resolving trust disputes.

How to Check the Credibility of a Trusts Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable trusts lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and has no disciplinary actions.
  • Look for trust law experience: Review their website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in estate planning and trusts.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for feedback on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google.
  • Ask for references: Request references from past clients who can speak to their experience with the lawyer.
  • Check for certifications: Look for certifications such as Certified Estate Planning Law Specialist (EPLS) or memberships in organizations like the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys (AAEPA).

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a trusts lawyer, bring the following:

  • List of assets: Prepare a list of all your assets, including real estate, bank accounts, investments, retirement accounts, and personal property.
  • List of beneficiaries: Provide names and contact information of individuals or organizations you want to name as beneficiaries.
  • Existing estate planning documents: Bring copies of any existing wills, trusts, or other estate planning documents.
  • Financial information: Bring financial statements, tax returns, and other relevant financial documentation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare a list of questions about the trust creation process, fees, and how the trust will protect your assets and beneficiaries.
  • Goals for the trust: Clearly outline your objectives, such as asset protection, tax minimization, or provisions for beneficiaries, so the lawyer can tailor the trust to your needs.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your situation effectively and receive the best possible legal advice for creating and managing your trust.
