Mary Anne Charron is an outstanding attorney and an excellent choice for legal representation, especially if you are trying to steer an estate through probate. When I was named executor of my sister’s estate, I took a deep breath and said I would handle it. Then the staggering responsibilities of that decision hit me like a brick. I was totally overwhelmed and knew I needed help as the tasks and deadlines began to pile up. Fortunately, a friend recommended Charter Oak Law Group and specifically, Mary Anne Charron. I called the Charter Oak Law office in Bloomfield and made an appointment to meet. After reviewing the estate documents, she quickly got things on track and prioritized the tasks for timely completion to satisfy probate. Mary Anne and her staff picked up the load and the estate was settled smoothly and efficiently. My wife and I realized that our own wills were way out of date, and again Mary Anne worked through the task of answering all our questions and setting up our estate planning documents exactly as we wanted them. With my mother’s recent passing, I find myself again in the role of executor and have enlisted Mary Anne Charron to expertly move the estate through the probate process. If you need assistance with estate planning, probate, a new will, or a real estate purchase or sale, Charter Oak Law Group and Mary Anne Charron can take the worry out of the process for you.

Horrible!! Used for probate services and the attorney gave inaccurate advice, didn’t return my calls, answer my questions or I would get a “ I’m not sure” and would never follow up with actual advice. I would have to call at least 5 times to a response from anyone. Terrible I would not use this firm. The entire staff is not competent or reliable

I met Kara at the beginning of a tedious process to re-establish my citizenship. The first highlight of working with her: she returned my initial call. If that sounds like a low bar, then you'd be surprised at the number of folks who either didn't return calls or who wanted to convert my call to a payment stream before understanding what I was up against. With Kara, I spoke to the person who would handle my case—and that's an important benefit because nothing got lost in the relaying of information. Kara was professional, friendly, and made a complex process simple and sequential. We discussed how much I was willing to take on myself and what she would do on my behalf. This created clear expectations of my time and costs, and ultimately led to a customized plan of action to resolve my case as quickly as possible. She knows what she is doing, communicated clearly along the way, and the process went according to plan. Kara Hart is truly the best and I highly recommend her services.

These attorneys have very questionable ethics. My mother-in-law has Alzheimer’s and dementia and they had her sign to revoke a POA so her scheming husband could take her retirement inheritance. She was not of sound mind and state health officials have attested to it. I guess if you want attorneys that are not ethical, go with these guys.

Listen the guy Robert Sheehan is a con artist. He labels himself as a father rights attorney and yet he’s the total opposite. He actually should be a mother’s rights attorney because he will do anything from lying to manipulating a story to ensuring fathers don’t spend ANY significant amount of time with their kids. He’s one of those janky attorneys who is money hungry and has no integrity. My apologies don’t mean to sound so harsh but it’s the only way I can explain it. If you’re a dad fighting to see your kids don’t hire this guy. I can guarantee you anyone vouching for this guy in these reviews probably is a friend or business partner.

Attorney Rapice represented me in a very complicated and difficult employment dispute against the corrupt & bankrupt Diocese / Catholic Church. Without Attorney Rapice highly effective legal representation against this corrupt organization my career would have been destroyed. To say the least Attorney Rapice is a fighter and a winner and am pleased that I selected him to protect me against the unfair employment practices I had encountered. The monetary damages and compensation I received would not have occurred without his strong and effective legal counsel. I would absolutely recommend attorney Rapice to fight for you in any unfair labor dispute you may encounter.

He was referred to me with “flying colors”. Unfortunately I could categorically state that my Interaction with this lawyer for the last 3 months was “good for nothing”. I offered to PAY him for a letter he PROMISED to send to my HOA but he declined. Rather I offered him a small token for his timein hearing my case. He LED me TO BELIEVE that he sent that promised letter to my HOA. Three months passed requesting him to send me a copy. I NEVER got one. Very unreliable & a Real Bluffer. His unacceptable demeanor towards a Senior Citizen is very unbecoming of his Discipline.

I worked with Attorney Phyllis MacCutcheon during one of the most challenging periods of my life—a high-conflict divorce. From the outset, she exhibited exceptional professionalism and strategic expertise, skillfully navigating the complexities of my case with clarity and confidence while ensuring I was fully informed at every step of the process. Her office administrator, Briana, was equally remarkable—organized, responsive, and always willing to go above and beyond to keep everything running smoothly. Their collaboration provided a seamless and reassuring experience during a very difficult time. Thanks to Attorney Phyllis’s expert guidance and Briana’s steadfast support, I achieved many critical outcomes that safeguarded my rights as a father and allowed me to move forward with stability, confidence, and dignity for both myself and my children.

My current attorney is Jenna Hyler. She's extremely competent of family law and very responsive. She will let you know what will fly in court and what won't. You won't be left out in the dark about what's going on in your case if you retain her services. She's currently helping me try to gain custody of my daughter and I feel a lot better having her on my side. I would highly recommend her if you're a father in a custody/divorce case and want an attorney who cares and who is straight-forward and honest with you. She discloses information that the average person would not think of, nor are they aware of. Highly recommended!

But then was told by several different attorneys it should have been included. The fact that he said I shouldn't have been arrested but did nothing about it as he was not at my arraignment. Seems when I got another attorney to ask him questions everything kind of went sideways as I was being told by Mr young one thing and being proven by different attorneys that was not the case. Taking care of an elderly parent can present some major challenges. As they get older, the decisions one must make get tougher and tougher. That is why you need an attorney who is forward thinking with knowledge of potential issues before they arise. It is so much better to be proactive - rather than have to be reactive as life situations change. Lyn Eliovson is just that type of attorney. She advises you of potential issues that will need to be addressed as your parent ages. Whether is be creating a straightforward Power of Attorney document or handling complex Trust issues, she is there to advise you on the correct course of action for the present time and into the future. Lyn's pleasant personality is an added plus; helping you navigate through these often complex situations. Anyone using her services will get the resources of an accomplished attorney with a heart.

Several main problems that I can go through in detail by memory. My first impression was of her berating a young intern or employee to the point of tears in public. Then I learned it wasn't just employees, it was clients. Eldercare clients. Then I learned it included me, an eldercare client paying $600.00 hour for a snapping turtle. Every time she snapped, I took it, though t about it and said to myself I have no idea what caused that. At the third meeting she did it again to someone else and I said "Wait a minute, you are not a criminal lawyer, we are not criiminals. We are also also not rich and no more of this at your $600 an hour What kind of eldercare attorney talks to their eldercare clients? She replied dismissively that technically my 90 year old mother was her client. Now just think about that for a minute and see if you can think of a worse possible reply in a courtroom. She's basically saying my 90 year old mother is safe from her barbs but that the children attempting to pay for it are fare game. Not at $600 an hour were not! Recently asked for a simple line item accounting of meetings held and was informed by an employee after consulting with her that the "file had been shred", Why don't you give me a call because you've been too afraid to talk to me. On the other hand she gives pleasant little radio talks. No problems whatsoever with the staff. And the infamous weakness of a snapping turtle is a weak underbelly.......

Kent Miller was incredibly thorough and helped walk me through all the steps throughout the process of handling my case. I spoke with other lawyers prior to reaching out to attorney Miller but he was the only one to put my mind at ease and take full control of the situation so I didn’t have to waste time worrying.

I utilized this practice for a very simple prenup that required about 30 minutes of work, and I was nickel and dimed throughout the entire process. Do your due diligence and get quotes from other practices - I wish I had.

We hired Tami for a custody case of a same sex relationship. She did her due diligence and made sure to be have the knowledge of all the new laws regarding the parentage act. She fought for the child's best interest and did everything she could within her legal bounds. She continues to ensure that ifthere are any issues, she will help us get back into court to get them resolved. She is very personable and caring and has a heart of gold. She absolutely fought for us. Even though we might not have gotten the outcome we originally wanted, that was not on the attorney but the Judge's call and we understood that.

Horrible attorney. If I could put 0 Stars I would consultation on September 13th 2024 discussed action plan goals, fears concerns what I needed. What I wanted, she chalked herself app a good game. She even told me she knew the other attorney on how to maneuver this case smoothly for me. I trusted inher i believed in her and September 18th retained her. She had 5 weeks to get prepared for my case. On October 24, 2020 for October 16th I texted her asking her what she needed as I was doing her legwork on the case, providing her with all the weapons she needed to fight my case for me. We discussed pelusi port's pictures. Photos. Everything I got her everything she needed before our court case. All she needed to do was one job file. A bunch of motions for me that we discussed that she told me she would do for me and she failed to do so I showed up to court October 24th. What a crap show They walked all over us and I'm there confused, wondering what went on and everyone's asking her and wondering where are my motions? The judge is confused. Wondering, where are my motions? I am crying and begging and speaking of issues and concerns and safety issues, so my son would not be released to an abusive criminal. Who's been in and out of jail in and out of warrants for the abuse? He's done to me in front of the child. Multiple occasions and drug selling, too unchild. Proof containers so that my son would stay protected with me me and I would go for full custody of my son, but she failed me so bad that my son is being released now over there. That's how bad she failed me. By not being prepared for court and her lack of performance here of protecting and serving her clients like she should have done for me. Due to her negligence, I am facing my fears and concerns and living them currently right now. Thanks to her, I even received a contempt because of her going to a judge meeting with the other attorney and letting them place a new order without consulting with me or a verifying with me and Letting a new order. Come in without a motion being filed for that. Yet, she fought nothing for me and never informed me of the new change in the new order for that same day of Halloween, which was my holiday. It was in order to give up the baby and split my day with him, which I knew nothing about for 7 PM and guess what? They filed a contempt on me. The next day. So yes, she created such a huge mess here for me and has put me in the bottom worst position. I could ever be in here and now unfortunately, I need to clean up her mess now and get myself a better attorney whom does not have any grievances, filed on them or rep? A man's currently as Tamara does look her up and do your research? Because that's where I fell short, listening to someone that that referred me that proudly never even used her before, apparently, because she was horrible. Horrible, be careful everyone. She also, in regards to those motions. Asked me to pay her an extra $180 in order to file the motions for me that she failed to file on October 24th for court and then tells me that if I didn't have the funds because she didn't have the funds to file these motions for me that she would tell the judge that I didn't have the money and I needed more time. And I say to her, you cannot go in there. A second time without my motions filed, and I sent her the $180 instantly very unprofessional. She blamed me for things as well. All these reviews of what people are saying are very true and it's been a Lotta things she's been doing lately. So it really shows that there's stuff going on here. I apologize to anyone who has felt victim to Tamera, harming their case and not working for them. Good luck everyone I have filed all my paperwork aganist her.I would like my full retainer back.Thank you

Several months ago, my wife and I met with Attorney Sutnik for a very lengthy meeting to discuss updating our Trust. The meeting lasted for at least 90 minutes, and there was no fee charged for this initial consultation. We gave Attorney Sutnik our prior Trust documents which he said he would review within a few days and get back to us. He quoted a price range which we accepted, and that was the last we heard from him. Perhaps two months passed without a call, so I had my wife contact his office so we could retrieve our documents. We assumed he was not interested in having us as clients. There was no explanation offered as to why he completely ignored us, and no request for additional time. My wife was told our documents would be waiting on the Admin's desk. Needless to say, we are very disappointed and would suggest others look elsewhere for competent legal services.

We hired this elder law attorney in 2005-06 to prepare our wills, etc. When it became necessary to conduct further business in 2015, I was treated with extreme disrespect and condescension, consequently, I do not recommend this attorney and urge people to seek legal aid elsewhere.

What a Trusts Lawyer Can Do for You

A trusts lawyer specializes in creating and managing trusts, which are legal entities that allow individuals to transfer assets to beneficiaries while maintaining control over how and when those assets are distributed. Trusts are used for estate planning, asset protection, tax planning, and ensuring the financial security of loved ones. Trusts lawyers help clients choose the right type of trust for their needs, draft trust documents, and advise on the administration and management of trusts.

Whether you're planning to pass on your assets to your heirs, protect your wealth from creditors, or provide for a disabled family member, a trusts lawyer can help you establish a trust that meets your financial and personal goals.

When Should I Hire a Trusts Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a trusts lawyer in various situations, particularly when you're planning for the future distribution of your assets or protecting your wealth. Common reasons to hire a trusts lawyer include:

  • Estate planning: If you want to ensure that your assets are distributed according to your wishes, a lawyer can help you create a revocable or irrevocable trust to avoid probate and provide for your heirs.
  • Asset protection: If you want to protect your assets from creditors, lawsuits, or potential future liabilities, a lawyer can help you establish a trust to shield your wealth.
  • Special needs planning: If you have a disabled family member, a lawyer can create a special needs trust to provide for their care without affecting their eligibility for government benefits.
  • Tax planning: If you're looking to minimize estate taxes or manage tax liabilities, a lawyer can help you create tax-advantageous trusts, such as a credit shelter trust or charitable remainder trust.
  • Charitable giving: If you want to leave a legacy through charitable donations, a lawyer can help you set up a charitable trust to ensure your donations are managed according to your wishes.
  • Business succession planning: If you own a business and want to ensure a smooth transition of ownership, a lawyer can help you establish a trust to pass the business on to your heirs or chosen successors.

Hiring a trusts lawyer early in the estate planning process ensures that your assets are protected and your wishes are clearly documented, reducing the chances of disputes after your death.

What Does a Trusts Lawyer Do?

A trusts lawyer provides a variety of legal services to help individuals create, manage, and administer trusts. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Drafting trust documents: Preparing the legal documents needed to create the trust, ensuring it is tailored to your specific goals and complies with state and federal laws.
  • Choosing the right type of trust: Assisting clients in selecting the most appropriate type of trust for their needs, whether it's a revocable trust, irrevocable trust, living trust, or special needs trust.
  • Trust administration: Guiding trustees through their legal responsibilities, including managing assets, making distributions to beneficiaries, and filing tax returns.
  • Modifying or terminating trusts: Helping modify or terminate trusts if circumstances change, such as changes in tax laws, family situations, or personal preferences.
  • Protecting beneficiaries' interests: Structuring trusts to protect the interests of beneficiaries, especially if there are concerns about financial management, disability, or dependency issues.
  • Minimizing estate taxes: Assisting clients in structuring their trusts to minimize or avoid estate taxes, ensuring more of the estate passes to beneficiaries.
  • Handling disputes: Mediating or representing clients in court if disputes arise among beneficiaries or between trustees and beneficiaries.

How Are Trusts Lawyers Paid?

Trusts lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the trust and the type of legal work involved. Common payment methods include:

  • Flat fee: For drafting basic trusts, such as revocable living trusts or special needs trusts, many lawyers charge a flat fee. This can range from $1,000 to $5,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the trust.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex trust planning, ongoing trust administration, or resolving disputes, some lawyers charge by the hour. Hourly rates typically range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Retainer: For long-term trust administration or complex estate planning cases, some lawyers may require a retainer, an upfront payment that covers ongoing services.
  • Contingency fee (rare): In rare cases, particularly in disputes involving the administration of a trust, lawyers may work on a contingency fee basis, getting paid only if they successfully recover funds or resolve a legal dispute in your favor.

Always discuss the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand the total cost of services.

How Much Does a Trusts Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a trusts lawyer depends on the complexity of the trust, the lawyer’s experience, and the fee structure. General cost estimates include:

  • Basic trust creation: For simple trusts, such as revocable living trusts, fees may range from $1,000 to $3,000.
  • Complex trust creation: For sophisticated estate plans involving multiple trusts, tax planning strategies, or special needs considerations, legal fees may range from $5,000 to $10,000 or more.
  • Trust administration: If you are serving as a trustee and need ongoing legal advice, hourly rates for trust administration can range from $150 to $500 or more.
  • Dispute resolution: Costs for litigation or mediation in trust disputes may range from $5,000 to $50,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case.

Be sure to get a detailed cost estimate from your lawyer during the consultation to ensure the services fit within your budget.

Top Questions to Ask a Trusts Lawyer

Before hiring a trusts lawyer, consider asking the following questions:

  1. What experience do you have with creating trusts?
Ensure the lawyer has experience drafting trusts and managing trust administration for clients with similar goals or asset structures.
  2. What types of trusts do you recommend for my situation?
Ask the lawyer to explain the different types of trusts available and which ones best suit your needs.
  3. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify the fee structure and request an estimate of the total cost.
  4. What are the tax implications of the trust?
Ensure the lawyer can explain how the trust will affect your taxes and strategies to minimize tax liability.
  5. How long will it take to set up the trust?
Ask for a timeline for creating and finalizing the trust documents.
  6. Will you handle the trust administration?
If ongoing management is required, inquire whether the lawyer will assist with trust administration or if you'll need a separate trustee.
  7. Can you help resolve disputes if they arise?
Ask about the lawyer's experience in resolving trust disputes.

How to Check the Credibility of a Trusts Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable trusts lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and has no disciplinary actions.
  • Look for trust law experience: Review their website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in estate planning and trusts.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for feedback on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google.
  • Ask for references: Request references from past clients who can speak to their experience with the lawyer.
  • Check for certifications: Look for certifications such as Certified Estate Planning Law Specialist (EPLS) or memberships in organizations like the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys (AAEPA).

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a trusts lawyer, bring the following:

  • List of assets: Prepare a list of all your assets, including real estate, bank accounts, investments, retirement accounts, and personal property.
  • List of beneficiaries: Provide names and contact information of individuals or organizations you want to name as beneficiaries.
  • Existing estate planning documents: Bring copies of any existing wills, trusts, or other estate planning documents.
  • Financial information: Bring financial statements, tax returns, and other relevant financial documentation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare a list of questions about the trust creation process, fees, and how the trust will protect your assets and beneficiaries.
  • Goals for the trust: Clearly outline your objectives, such as asset protection, tax minimization, or provisions for beneficiaries, so the lawyer can tailor the trust to your needs.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your situation effectively and receive the best possible legal advice for creating and managing your trust.
