My husband and I recently went to closing for our home and we had Attorney Stephen Hoffman and this office represent us. We cannot say enough wonderful things about how things were handled from the very beginning until closing. The paralegal, Sharon Bukowski went way above and beyond as well. All my questions and worries were answered and attended to. We felt that our concerns were important and always addressed. We mattered and were taken care of as if we were their only clients...and no questions or concerns were ever unanswered or unimportant. Truly...we cannot say enough great things about this office and we are grateful for everything that they have done for us. They deserved much more financially than they had asked for. Thank you Steve and Sharon! Rick & Sherry McFalls

Mr. Lerner and his staff are consummate skilled Professionals, and I “HIGHLY” recommend them to anyone filing a work related disability claim because hiring an attorney with definitive experience, counts!! I was going to work as a Law Enforcement Officer with debilitating lower back pain for years after being involved in two work-related auto accidents. I was seeing a Physician at a practice in Commack, NY since 2010 and he documented that I needed a single or possibly a bi-level fusion in 2013, but he thought I was too young for that type of surgery so I continued to work and live with the pain because no one told me that I might be disabled or incapable of performing my duties as a Law Enforcement Officer—not even my employer and they have a Chief Surgeon who would read all my medical notes after my doctor and therapy visits. A coworker saw me in agonizing pain while at work one day, and recommended that I go see Mr. Lerner to see if I have a possible disability claim. When I first saw Mr. Lerner in June of 2017 and he read my MRI, he couldn’t believe that I was at work with my lower back condition, and he advised me that I did in fact have a disability case—It was Mr. Lerner’s EXPERIENCE that instantly recognized that I had a favorable case. As you could imagine, I was stunned! Mr. Lerner was the first person to tell me that I was disabled and incapacitated from performing my duties as a Law Enforcement Officer. In June of 2018, I was awarded an Accidental Disability Retirement Pension on application, and I thank Mr. Lerner and his lovely assistant Margaret for making me aware of my options and guiding me through the arduous process of filing for a disability pension—I am forever grateful of Mr. Lerner and his staff.

I appointed Ms. Anna Goldman through Kasuri Law for a landlord-tenant case. She is a horrible lawyer, who never communicated with me regarding my case. She never barely responded to my emails and calls. Not only that, she didn't even inform me about the court date. I called Kasuri law and informed the office and her that I have a court date in 4 days which I found through the civil court website. This was not enough, she called me exactly two days before the court date just to let me know that she will not represent me. And she didn't. Kasuri law is equally bad. Ms. Sunny, the office assistant is extremely rude. I wasted my money on them. Extremely unethical, unprofessional lawyer, and the law firm to which she is attached. I would never recommend this lawyer. Please do not waste your time and money on her.

I have known Daniel for 7 years, when we first met as classmates at NYU Law School. He is an outstanding lawyer, a great friend and someone who cares deeply about his clients and their needs. Daniel is also a brilliant strategist and has a unique gift of anticipating potential challenges ahead of time and taking the necessary steps to preempt them. I have relied on him over the years as a colleague on numerous legal matters, and have also sought his counsel on some of my own matters as well - always with an outstanding result. Although his practice specializes in helping accident victims, Daniel is versatile enough that I would also fully endorse him to anyone who needs help with any type of litigation dispute.

When my mother-in-law was hit by a car and severely injured, we reached out to these lawyers for help. IMHO they screwed my mother-in-law over royally. K&K got $50,000 for themselves (of which they were forced to return about $25,000) and mom got NOTHING! Not a penny. IMHO, you should run far, far away before getting these guys to do anything for you. Would be minus stars if I could.

I hired Stephanie to represent me in my civil case. Although I was very nervous as I had never been through this sort of thing before, she was calm and reassured me that she had a plan. She does not have a large office or tons of staff to answer every call, but I never felt as though I would lose mycase due to that. In Court she was very professional and was able to talk me through it although I wanted to lash out. I'll just say that she always seems to have a plan, even if you don't realize it! Thankful for all she has done for me so far!

The intake staff named Miguel Diaz was the worst!!!! His verbal tic was not only dismissive, condescending and unprofessional, but he was wasting other peoples' time. I should of listened to my gut and hung up on him earlier on in the phone call. He doesn't let you speak to the attorney at all and demands in CAPS in an email that he wants you to send him all medical reports/clinical summaries with no HIPPA release form. I think he has some form of Tourettes Syndrome. For instance, he could not stop saying "oK!?" at the end of each sentence that does not warrant it. Honestly, it is very hard to listen to someone who dismisses the listener each time. I have his voice recordings on audio, and it is very hard to listen to with his rude tone and demeanor — if I could attach his audios for everyone to listen to, I would have done it by now. Because the things he preaches to you about is quite manipulative and does not go anywhere. It's better to find someone else.

I did not intend on posting a negative review, until every other means I have taken was ignored by this law firm. I was a client of Ms. Hawthorne for approximately 6 years between 2015 & 2021. I thought she represented me well in child custody matters at that time. A new issue arose in July of 2024, so I contacted her office to retain her for the new matter. I paid the full retainer fee up front, and Ms. Hawthorne agreed to represent me. Long story, but here is the point of the review, & caution to others who rely on reviews to choose an attorney. 1) Ms. Hawthorne repeatedly dropped the ball when it came to being prepared for court dates. I would ask a simple task be handled, & she arrived at court telling me she didn't have the information needed to pursue. It could have been addressed by a quick phone call so the information would have been presented on that court date. 2) Ms. Hawthorne avoided ALL of my emails with questions regarding legal representation & how to proceed with our Court matter. I was only able to get basic responses and interaction with her staff member, Ann. 3) I ended up having to fire Ms. Hawthorne 3 months after retaining her due to ZERO direction and follow up from her on Court deadlines. I was left on my own, when I hired her for legal representation. 4) I fired Ms. Hawthorne before all the retainer fee was used up, and by law, & by the legal code of attorney conduct, any monies paid has to be earned. Refunds are to be issued for any unused portion. 5) I terminated Ms. Hawthorne's services on October 3, 2024 & requested a current statement of services rendered. I requested a refund on that date. It was nearly a month before I received the requested statement. It showed that I had $855 CREDIT. 6) I sent several emails to Ms. Hawthorne & her office, requesting the refund, as I had to retain a different attorney to represent me for the job she failed to do. I was charged double for work Ms. Hawthorne didn't complete, and new attorney had to follow through on. 7) I filed an attorney grievance for her unethical standards pursuant to the Attorney Code of Conduct. Ms. Hawthorne lied in that case & claimed she WAS representing me. 8) When emails were repeatedly ignored for my refund, I called the Office & left a message (10 weeks after initial requests) This is why I am resorting to a public review. No other means I have followed through with are being received and dealt with. I am just asking for the money I paid UP FRONT to be returned to me for the unused portion of $855. I have other attorney bills to cover thanks to Ms. Hawthorne not doing her job.

Michelle Walsh is an exceptional lawyer whose expertise in landlord and tenant issues is second to none. From our first meeting, her knowledge and professionalism stood out. Michelle is not only incredibly thorough in her work but also exhibits remarkable patience. I remember being overwhelmed with all the legal jargon, and she took the time to explain everything in clear, understandable terms—turning what felt like a foreign language into a friendly conversation. One of the things I appreciate most about Michelle is her trustworthiness. You can tell she genuinely cares about her clients and their well-being. There was this one time she shared a light-hearted anecdote about a case and offered me god intention landlord advice which not only showcased her vast experience but also her great sense of humor. It was a refreshing reminder that you’re dealing with a person who’s both highly competent and relatable. If you’re in need of legal advice, especially regarding landlord and tenant matters, I highly recommend Michelle Walsh. She’s been an invaluable resource for me, blending professionalism with a personal touch that’s rare to find.

I sought Mr. Hobika's help to look into suing a local department over some tickets that were issued to me for an error that was not my fault. Mr. Hobika not only acted like he couldn't be bothered with it, when I explained that I was not looking for help with the tickets but wanted a lawyer to look into suing this particular department he responded with "Oh you can handle the tickets? Good luck with that." and proceeded to hang up on me. Well I got out of court today and guess what? I got my tickets dismissed without any attorney's assistance. What Mr. Hobika is unaware of is that I own two companies and they are both getting large enough that I need a legal firm on retention. Had Mr. Hobika not been such a jerk to me on the phone, his legal firm would have been one of the first ones I spoke with regarding retaining them for my businesses. He quickly made sure that not only do I not want him ever for a personal lawyer, but I would not want his firm to ever come within ten feet of my companies. There are better options out there from lawyers that don't act like a consultation is beneath them and your seeking help is bothering them. First and last time I ever seek their assistance with anything, and I recommend looking elsewhere.

Please run as far away from this attorney as possible. In addition to being inarticulate, my personal interactions with Mrs. Williams have lead me to believe she's dishonest and simply not good at her job. Mrs. Williams was hired by my father's baby mother and her children to represent them in a probate proceeding. Though Mrs. Williams was not the attorney of record for the estate, she acted as the de facto spokeperson for matters regarding an estate that had been dormant for nearly a decade. Mrs. Williams did everything in the interest of her client. Kim Williams inserted herself in matters that did not involve her, including refusing to give me a copy of a Title Report to which I was entitled to receive per New York City's Surrogate Court Procedure Act. Furthermore, when I questioned Mrs. Williams' conflict of interest for handling the needs of her clients while interfering with the estate, she accused me of "threatening" her and sent me a cease and desist email. As an attorney, she was unaware that cease and desist letters must be served in person. What attorney, worth his or her salt, accuses someone of threatening them when they are unable to answer questions germane to an estate that they inserted themselves in? This is just one of many examples that show her inability to do her job well. Mrs. Williams also filed objections to me being the administrator of the estate when I never made the request of the court. Those objections cost money! One can assume reading comprehension is not her strong suit. I have attached images of Mrs. William's 5 star review from a person who happens to share her same exact name. I've also included the email from her claiming she found my non-threatening emails threatening. Though I have redacted both of our email addresses, the emails are unedited. Please steer clear of this lawyer/real estate agent. You'll thank me later.

I normally do this work myself but didn't have time. The paperwork sent to NY by Frank Zappala was rejected by Clinton County. Upon my review, it was in fact done incorrectly. I redid it myself, and it went through with flying colors as always. I cordially offered the information to Frank Zappala hoping it would assist both him and his clients in their future endeavors. I did not request even a partial refund. This guy has the arrogance to bill me for research that further confirms his errors. You think about that.

George is a very nice person when you initially meet him to discuss your case. He did in fact win the case I was involved in but after years of no return calls, chasing him down for answers and a rude staff I would have made a different decision. You will NOT get the service or attention you are hoping for on your case as it has been my own personal situation. If you want to not know whats going on, be told he's working on it and never get a resolution then George is you man. I don't think that is someone you want to pay THOUSANDS of dollars out of your settlement for!

Title says it all. I'd never use or recommend any other worker's comp. attorney. From accident to payment - 1.5 years. Huge settlement + 20% delinquent payment fee. Mark and his partners have a very reasonable fee and get their clients great payouts. Nothing but appreciation.

Attorney Eidlisz told me that I was working "off the books". I told him that I was living off of my savings. He said that no judge would award me money because I was not injured. I never had a hearing even though workers comp paid my medical expenses. No calls from his office. no reply to questions about my case. He complained that workers comp cases did not pay enough all the time.

I have been through two years of a long, drawn-out case and STILL have no settlement. Every time I call the office, the only explanation that I get is "we've requested a hearing". A year into my case and I FINALLY get a hearing and NO ONE from the firm ever bothered showing up. I was assured by Mark Eidlisz that he could get the hearing rescheduled in about 2-3 weeks, which was a TOTAL LIE. It took another 6 months for a rescheduled hearing and AGAIN, no one bothered to show up, a lawyer called into court (I have NEVER heard of such). After back and forth arguing, the judge determined that I was due a payment. After 3 months of waiting, I called to let them know that I had yet to receive my payment and then I was told, once again, that they had to request a hearing. I truly wish I had chosen a different firm.

What a Workers’ Compensation Lawyer Can Do for You

A workers’ compensation lawyer specializes in helping employees who are injured or become ill as a result of their job to receive the benefits they are entitled to under workers' compensation laws. These lawyers represent injured workers in claims for medical benefits, wage replacement, and other compensation related to workplace injuries or illnesses. They also help when claims are denied, benefits are delayed, or disputes arise with the employer or the insurance company.

Whether you've been injured on the job, developed an occupational illness, or are dealing with a denied workers' compensation claim, a workers’ compensation lawyer can help you navigate the claims process and ensure you receive the full benefits you deserve.

When Should I Hire a Workers' Compensation Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a workers' compensation lawyer in several situations, especially when complications arise during the claims process or when your rights as an injured worker are being challenged. Some common reasons to hire a workers' compensation lawyer include:

  • Claim denial: If your workers' compensation claim has been denied, a lawyer can help you appeal the decision and represent you in hearings or litigation.
  • Inadequate benefits: If the insurance company offers you a settlement that doesn’t cover your medical expenses, lost wages, or other damages, a lawyer can negotiate on your behalf for a fair amount.
  • Delay in receiving benefits: If your benefits are being delayed, a lawyer can help expedite the process to ensure you receive timely compensation.
  • Permanent disability: If your injury leads to permanent disability (partial or total), a lawyer can help you navigate the more complex process of securing long-term benefits.
  • Retaliation by employer: If your employer retaliates against you for filing a workers' compensation claim (e.g., by firing or demoting you), a lawyer can protect your rights and pursue legal action.
  • Third-party liability: If a third party (e.g., a contractor or equipment manufacturer) was responsible for your injury, a lawyer can help you pursue additional compensation through a personal injury lawsuit.
  • Pre-existing conditions: If your employer or the insurance company claims that your injury is related to a pre-existing condition, a lawyer can help you present evidence showing that the injury was work-related.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process can prevent delays, avoid mistakes, and ensure you receive all the benefits you’re entitled to under workers' compensation law.

What Does a Workers' Compensation Lawyer Do?

A workers' compensation lawyer provides a range of legal services to injured workers, ensuring that they receive the benefits they deserve. Their tasks often include:

  • Filing claims: Helping injured workers prepare and file their workers' compensation claims to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Appealing denied claims: Representing workers whose claims have been denied and guiding them through the appeals process, including hearings and court appearances.
  • Negotiating settlements: Negotiating with insurance companies to secure fair compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and other damages.
  • Handling disputes: Resolving disputes between the injured worker, the employer, and the insurance company regarding the amount of compensation or the nature of the injury.
  • Coordinating medical evidence: Gathering and presenting medical records, expert testimony, and other evidence to support the workers' compensation claim.
  • Advocating for benefits: Ensuring that injured workers receive all the benefits they’re entitled to, including temporary or permanent disability benefits, vocational rehabilitation, and medical treatment.
  • Filing third-party lawsuits: In cases where a third party is responsible for the injury, a workers' compensation lawyer may also pursue a personal injury lawsuit to recover additional damages.

How Are Workers’ Compensation Lawyers Paid?

Workers' compensation lawyers typically charge a contingency fee, meaning they only get paid if they successfully recover benefits for you. This fee is usually a percentage of the benefits awarded, and the specific percentage is often regulated by state law. Here's how it generally works:

  • Contingency fee: The lawyer's fee is typically between 15% and 25% of the total benefits awarded to you. You don’t have to pay any upfront legal fees, and the lawyer’s fee comes out of the settlement or benefit award.
  • No fee if no recovery: If the lawyer doesn’t recover any benefits for you, you generally don’t have to pay for their services.
  • State regulations on fees: Many states cap the percentage that workers' compensation lawyers can charge, and some states require the fee to be approved by the workers' compensation board or judge.

Be sure to discuss the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand how much you will owe if your case is successful.

How Much Does a Workers' Compensation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a workers' compensation lawyer typically depends on the contingency fee arrangement, meaning the lawyer’s fee will be a percentage of the benefits you receive. General cost estimates include:

  • Contingency fees: Most workers' compensation lawyers charge between 15% and 25% of the total settlement or benefits awarded. For example, if you receive $50,000 in benefits, the lawyer’s fee would range from $7,500 to $12,500.
  • State regulations: Some states limit the percentage that workers' compensation lawyers can charge. In these cases, the fee is usually capped, often at 20% to 25%, depending on state law.
  • Additional costs: Some lawyers may charge for out-of-pocket expenses, such as filing fees, medical records retrieval, and expert witness testimony, though these costs are typically deducted from the settlement after the case is won.

You should always ask for a clear explanation of fees and potential additional costs during your consultation so you understand the financial arrangement.

Top Questions to Ask a Workers' Compensation Lawyer

Before hiring a workers' compensation lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they are the best fit for your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with workers' compensation cases?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, especially if your injury is severe or the case involves disputes.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a contingency fee and whether there are any additional costs you need to be aware of.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case, including the potential challenges and outcomes.
  4. Have you handled cases like mine before?
Find out if the lawyer has experience dealing with cases involving similar injuries or disputes, such as denied claims or permanent disability.
  5. How long will the process take?
While it’s difficult to predict an exact timeline, the lawyer should be able to provide a general estimate based on their experience with similar cases.
  6. Will you personally handle my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of your case. Make sure you know who will be working on your claim.

How to Check the Credibility of a Workers' Compensation Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable workers' compensation lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing, with no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for workers' compensation experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in workers' compensation law and have successfully handled cases similar to yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s expertise and service.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their experience in workers' compensation cases.
  • Check for professional affiliations: Membership in organizations like the Workers' Injury Law & Advocacy Group (WILG) or local bar association committees on workers' compensation can indicate the lawyer’s commitment to this area of law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with a workers' compensation lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Accident report or incident documentation: Bring any documentation related to your workplace injury or illness, including accident reports or notifications to your employer.
  • Medical records: Provide copies of medical records, including treatment notes, doctor’s reports, and any information related to your injury or condition.
  • Employer correspondence: Bring any letters, emails, or forms related to your claim from your employer or the workers' compensation insurance company.
  • Wage and benefits information: Provide information on your wages, benefits, and any lost income due to the injury.
  • List of questions: Prepare questions about your case, the process, costs, and what to expect moving forward.
  • Timeline of events: Prepare a timeline of the incident, your injury, and any medical treatment or communication with your employer and the insurance company.

Being well-prepared for your consultation will allow the lawyer to assess your case more effectively and provide you with the best possible legal advice.
