I came to the U.S. seeking an investment visa, the E-2, which for Israelis, became a new category. I searched around and I asked over twenty people who would be the best lawyer for me, someone who can bring me an approval of this E-2 investor visa and also be my attorney for all other legal matters a businessman could possibly face. My selection would have to be approved by my great wife, who is a lawyer in Israel. Not just anyone could be selected. We are very picky. At the end, Alex Barak was clearly the person we needed, far more qualified and experienced than the other lawyers that were mentioned to me. The reasons we selected him: 1. His legal experience is as high as anyone can have and his reputation among those we spoke to is super. 2. He speaks Hebrew and this makes communications easier for us. 3. He was the only American Immigration and business lawyer featured at a USA-Israel Business Summit in Israel last year where he spoke all day with hundreds of Israeli Hi-tech and Start-ups executives, at the same conference where Florida's Governor Ron DeSantis and several members of his cabinet spoke. This was important to us. 4. When we meet him at his office, he always has patience for us. We feel at home and comfortable with him, and he has friendly manners and makes very sharp and confident legal points. His office is decorated with many breathtaking pictures from Israel, icing on the cake for us. 5. He impressed upon us that the category we were seeking E-2 is one that is not easy, that has to documented beyond anyone's imagination, and must be presented by a lawyer with profeesional writing skills. And we felt full confidence in him. So we hired Alex Barak and he was thorough, demanding more and more documents, even more than we could have imagined. He said that Immigration has asked for all of these items in previous cases, so we had to submit everything in our case. I admit we gave him a complicated case and he said to us: "Why do I keep getting complicated cases. An easy one is less stressful." We sent out a big package to Immigration, and even though we disagreed with Immigration, they did not understand our case and sent back what is called a "Request for Additional Evidence." Although Mr. Barak was not worried, we were. Worrying is part of the Israeli personality. The Immigration request asked for a lot more documents. We were afraid this was a prelude to a denial. I told many people about this "Request for Additional Evidence" and many people told me I would be denied for sure and no lawyer, no matter how good and famous he or she was, would be able to rescue me from a denial. As I handed to Mr. Barak the last few documents he said were needed, I asked him: '"What happens if we are denied? " He responded: " Based upon the law and based on your facts, you must be approved and I cannot even think of any denial, unless it is politically motivated." As we never filed anything with him before, my wife and I were very nervous, even though others had told us he is a magician with Immigration cases. We then waited, losing sleep, worried about our fate. Finally, we received a call from Alex Barak. He made sure my wife and I were both on the phone. He sounded quite depressed and said he just received the final answer from Immigration, the decision in our E-2 visa case. His voice was not a happy one. We were expecting bad news. A terrible feeling hit our stomachs. We would have to go back home, we felt, and our lengthy pursuit of the E-2 visa was at an end. Then suddenly, Mr. Barak shouts out: "Mazal Tov, Mazal, Tov, you were approved, you were approved. E-2 visa success!" We went from a severe, but short depressive mind to euphoria. We were approved for a two-year E-2 visa!! I felt electricity running down my arms, a happiness I have not felt since my third child was born. I take this moment thank G-d. And I thank Alex Barak. I found out I was ordered deported from the USA by an Immigration Court for a hearing to which I did not receive the notice. I made a big mistake by going to a young lawyer who spoke my language, but she misrepresented to me her legal abilities and she did not file what I have learned is the only way to reopen deportation. She did something no one else would have done which was dismissed by a court of apeals. I was in a worse legal condition, and I feared my time in the U.S. was about up. I then asked around for someone to recommend an experienced lawyer. Someone recommended Alex Barak and after speaking to him it was so obvious he was an expert in the Immigration Court procedures and that my first lawyer was comepletely incompetent. I was required to give him all kinds of proof and he ordered a copy of the Government's file through the Freedom of Information Act. Mr. Barak reviewed and analyzed all available evidence and he told me I had a legitimate chance to reopen the deportation order. He then filed a thick legal set of papers with all kinds of details and I awaited the decison, nervous as hell. The Judge ruled in my favor, re-opened the case, which means he cancelled the deportation order and now my life in this country can continue. I owe my life in this country to the skiiled, experienced and thorough Alex Barak, who has treated me like family, always kept me in tune with everything he was doing, and delivered me the success I needed very badly.
