I am thrilled to share my review of Elan Barrett Law Firm. Although I was referred to Elan Barrett by a friend who was saved by the Barrett Law Firm from deportation, I was still uncertain of my case. However, Elan Barrett reassured me during our first meeting that he would not take my case if he didn't believe I had a chance at getting a green card. To my surprise, I received my green card in a relatively short time, thanks to Elan Barrett's dedication. Before consulting with Elan , I had met with another lawyer who recommended that I apply for an artist visa before applying for a green card. Ilan, on the other hand, submitted my application for a green card from the start, saving me years of dealing with a visa that would limit my work opportunities. Elan's guidance not only saved me time and money but also opened up new possibilities for me and my daughter in the United States. I am grateful for Elan's expertise and highly recommend the Barrett Law Firm to anyone looking for an immigration lawyer. I cannot imagine where I would be without Elan help and dedicated care.

Let me tell you about a man that knows what he is doing. He is kind and honest. He listens and then speaks. He is never in a rush to collect your money and get you out of his wonderful office. I have known him for 7 years and not once has he not returned my call or reply to my email. Talk about a very knowledgeable attorney and Elan is you who you see. I honestly love my attorney and trust me my journey has not been easy. ALWAYS Elan is the way to go!

My husband was detained by ICE and housed in BTC in Broward, Florida for one year back in 2010. It was unthinkably the most difficult time of my entire life. I went through multiple Attorneys’ (four to be exact) who just took my money and did nothing to help. My husband was not even able to bond out of BTC until a year later. Thankfully, when he did, it was the utmost happiest moment of my life but we knew we could stay with the current Attorney we had because of all the issues and extra money she cost us by refilling petitions based on her own mistakes. We searched up and down for someone who had extraordinary credentials, references and experience. No one willing fully took our case because we had criminal issues, overstay issues, marriage while in detention, etc. Thankfully, we found Attorney Elan Baret. We did not have an easy case and it was voluminous with issues all over. We were completely out of hope and we thought that deportation or voluntary departure would be our only option. We had no support from family and small support from friends, we felt no where close to having a strong case or even a chance. When we first met Mr. Baret his calm and soothing energy renewed our hope and our faith in the US System. Mr. Baret did not run us in circles and he did not play games. He was very straight forward with what we needed to do in terms of paperwork, filings, etc. in order to make our situation satisfactory. We did not have much money and his price seemed extreme, but we know now it was worth every single cent and we would even pay more if we had it with no regrets whatsoever. We did leave his office with a sense of sadness because we felt so strongly about our desire to hire Mr. Baret but we could not afford it. We explained this to Mr. Baret and he made the costs manageable for us by allowing us to make payments in installments. Being that we were so satisfied with his work from the moment we turned our case over to him, we couldn’t help but to pay him in full right away. Mr. Baret and his staff, worked on our case as if it was their own. They truly make it known that every case is a priority. They attach themselves to their clients and they became a part of your family by fighting harder then even your own blood relatives would. They do not leave any stone uncovered and they truly exhaust all possibilities in an attempt to bring forth satisfactory results. Mr. Baret goes into court confident and puts up a well-thought argument where he cannot help but to win even the most difficult of cases, such as ours. They truly make your case, theirs and they do so with pride. They push for every opportunity and unlike most Immigration Attorney’s they don’t just want your money, they genuinely want to help. My husband was granted conditional residency in 2012. It was a process that went on for 2 years and 2 months. When it came time to remove his conditions, USCIS said we failed to attend an interview, however we never received notice for it. Attorney Baret has been working diligently to ensure that my husband gets permanent residency and that our interview is rescheduled. I have referred so many people to Mr. Baret because he is truly the only Immigration Attorney that I have worked with that puts so much hard work, effort, care and compassion into satisfactory results. I guarantee you that if you hire this firm, you will NEVER be disappointed. They really make miracles come true. There is no situation that is too difficult for them, because Mr. Baret is always up for the challenge and truly gets satisfactory results. Trust Mr. Baret with all of your immigration needs as he truly is the most intelligent, hard working, down to earth, compassionate Attorney you will ever find.

When I went in to Mr. Baret's office I had no hope, but after consulting with him, for free of course, he gave me some hope. After being in the US for 17 years, had my mother file for me, and during the process got in some legal trouble. Mr. Baret took me through the removal/ deportation court proceedings and got me my green card. Today I am very grateful for him. He is very loyal and knows the immigration laws. He is very down to earth and makes you feel comfortable during very stressful situations.

I highly recommend Evan Kleiman for representation in a criminal case. He is courteous, efficient, professional and makes communication throughout the whole process very easy. He took the time to go over all my concerns literally any time I called. I felt immediately like I was a V.I.P. Most importantly, however, is the result and what it came to that I couldn't have been happier. He was able to ger my charges dismissed prior to the arraignment. He is diligent, professional and highly effective

To say that Aaron Kesselman is a good lawyer would be a gross understatement. Aaron assisted us in the sale of our home. From first contact to the final documents, we found Aaron to be diligent, thorough, and extremely responsive. Aron very much went above and beyond, from finding small inconsistencies in documents to reminders of dates and times. This was the fourth house we have sold, so we are familiar with the process, given that,: I would rate Aaron as exceptional. I would highly recommend Aaron and hope to have the opportunity to work with him again in the future.

My son had a problem where he could have been facing serious time in jail. Mr. Salzman told us that he would do his best to make sure that did not occur. Throughout the process he worked hard to make sure he defended my son. Researching common law and working within the system to get the best result. His hard work and diligence allowed my son to have a favorable outcome.

Richard Salzman is an excellent criminal lawyer in every way! He is kind and easy to talk to. He listens to you and makes you feel like everything is going to be fine. He is so confident, you leave his office feeling calm and reassured. He is easy to reach and always returns calls and he made me feel like I am his most important client! In court, Richard is the ultimate professional. He met me early and put my mind at ease right away. He explained everything and guided me through the process. Richard was prepared, focused and walked into the courtroom full of confidence and energy. He spoke to the Prosecutor and Judge for me and I hardly said a word. It was amazing how everyone treated Richard with so much respect and friendliness. And the BEST thing was, Richard was able to get me a great plea deal where I get my case DISMISSED in 3 months! Richard made a very frightening situation for me a simple “walk in the park” – Thank you Richard!!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Hollywood, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
