I started an initial action for paternity with the courts in my area, after being denied access to my son from his mother (aged 2 at the time of filing). I initially was assigned a less experienced attorney with Kenny Leigh and Associates, however as the case escalated into a custody "battle", my case was assigned to Mr.Ellerin. I would like to stress that divorce and custody proceedings are typically not resolved overnight. These cases are very procedural, and there is always an "if and, or but" to most facets which seem to make sense initially. There must be realistic expectations set when working with attorneys, the courts, other related parties...and well, the other parent. In my experiences establishing credibility, preparing for anything, and keeping your story straight is the best way to achieve a desirable outcome. In my experiences with Scott, he has consistently put forth a detail-oriented approach to his case work, and has never advocated for being too sure of a ruling or event going one way. He has always advocated a "question first, shoot later" approach, and has stressed the importance of not being unreasonable regarding a family law case. Very rarely do attorneys have time or capacity to answer every single call or respond to every single issue experienced in the day to day of a custody case, but in my experiences Scott always found adequate time to review evidence, prepare for multiple outcomes and proceeding activities, and present himself in a professional and genuinely invested manner while keeping me aware of recent events. When things make sense, Scott has connected the dots. When they haven't, Scott has supported my stances or helped me to better understand why or why not my current position makes sense. In other words, I have learned to respect the things Scott is firm on based on his experience, and further respect his flexibility for reciprocating that this is my case, and involves my son at a personal level, as appropriate. Circling back to my earlier point on being reasonable, Scott has always been forthcoming with sharing his experiences, thoughts, and opinions on facets of my case. If you are looking to hire a "yes" man as an attorney, look elsewhere. If you are looking for attorney who will review your case, ask the tough questions to not only the other party but to YOU as a client in the interest of a case, and maintain a realistic approach to handling your case...then look no further.

Divorce is a nasty thing. Going through my first divorce, I was glad to have Scott as my attorney. He explained everything thoroughly from the first consultation through the final trial. I always knew I could count on him for good legal advice and I knew he always fought for my rights and best interest.

Scott worked on a few cases for my family – all dealing with family law issues. In addition to working on these cases, he also provided us several consultations to discuss strategy, whether or not he was handling the case. In each circumstance, he was able to provide sound legal advice and guidance. When he drafted the documents for my child support matter with my ex-husband, my ex-husband didn’t bother to fight it as all the bases were covered and he knew he’d lose. No matter what your family law matter is, I recommend making an appointment to speak with Scott.

During my divorce case back in 2009, I got screwed totally. My attorney, Scot Ellerin, did not fight for me in any shape or form, no valuable recommendations, and did not have my back. I literally had to give up my house, my retirement land and more than 1/2 of my lifetime savings, 401K and everything in between. Like most guys gone through a divorce, us men just want to get it over and move on, so I didn't fight for much or under stress and not knowing. This is why I hire a lawyer to fight for me, but unlike so, end result was I got the very short end of the stick, with lifetime pension payment, lifetime alimony, child support (which is ok), everything else could have been fought or counter. I think about it everyday and feeling the aftermath effect since, and still trying to rebuild my life. I definitely would not recommend Scott Ellerin to anyone! A word of advice to the men out there if anyone going through a divorce, be sure to fight for everything and make your lawyer work for you, otherwise you'll be paying for life!
