I have been fortunate enough In this difficult time to find such a diligent, amazing attorney within this practice. Morgan has always put my children first & went above in beyond in making sure things continue to flow smoothly within the process. She always communicates in a timely professional manner, I’m never left with unanswered questions. Morgan is very knowledgeable In her areas of practice & fights for what is right. Iam writing this review, knowing someone out there is looking for an attorney such as Morgan. I’m here to let you know, this is the right choice. As a REALTOR, Property Owners ask me to recommend an Attorney for probates, HOA issues, etc. For over 25 years, Patricia Daugherty has been my go to Attorney. Patrica is an excellent Attorney, and I never hesitate to recommend her. Patricia's extensive knowledge of the law and meticulous attention to detail, makes her up to the challenge and sure to complete the task. I have personally hired Patricia for legal work. And, I have recommended Patrica to my friends and family. I would highly recommend Patricia Daugherty to anyone in need of an Attorney.

My real estate firm manages and leases commercial properties. Ms. Daugherty has assisted in many aspects of my business including keeping my management agreement up to date with new law changes. She has also handled new leases for commercial tenants as each of these are unique. Her work product is excellent. I would highly recommend.

Nicole Burns was my divorce attorney. I was scared and unsure as how to proceed during that difficult time. From the initial meeting through the final steps she was competent and caring. She was extremely knowledgeable regarding what I was and was not entitled to and explained them until I understood everything clearly. She was patient and answered every question I had. Nicole made me feel empowered and helped me maintain a positive attitude during a time of uncertainty and sadness. She never once made me feel like a budren even when I asked a million questions, emailed or even called her. She was professional, kept in constant contact with me and was always punctual. Mediation was a breeze with Nicole by my side. She was kind to my ex husband, yet fair, and made sure I received what we had previously discussed. During the court process she was there early to make sure I was prepared by answering any last minute questions and by explaining in detail, what was to come. I felt very reassured and confident entering the final hearing. I would HIGHLY recommend her to anyone needing a superior attorney. She was phenomenal!

In search for a divorce lawyer I contacted several in my local area. They all quoted me a flat rate and none invited me to their office for a free consultation. That was until I called Nicole Burns. She listened to my situation on the phone and asked me if I had time that very day to come in for a free consultation!!! She was even more compassionate in person and we started the process right away. Within a month I was divorced and ready to start my new life. Nicole Burns was efficient, understanding, and by far the best divorce lawyer I could have ever hired.

I highly recommend Ms.Burns;she took over my case after two other attorneys didn't represent me and my child best interests. She has been honest, patient, easy to talk with, knowledgeable of the law and always return calls,emails,etc... she is great listener and gives excellent advice. After 1 year and 1/2 struggle in every sense, this issue was the worse time in my life but despite that, she calmed me down and made me feel confident that in this world, there are still honest professionals with much integrity.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Kissimmee, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
