I had another attorney at the time and not only was my case sitting with no action for over a year but this attorney, who was "paid" to take my case, stopped responding and his office would reply days after a request or inquiry was made . After an excellent recommendation, I hired Mr. Kotler Scott F and his team. Not only where they responsive and professional but they got to work immediately and my case was resolved within a 3 month period after he took over with a favorable outcome. His prices are fair but his knowledge, expertise and professionalism are like no other in the business. He provided great advice, direction and was well connected within his community. His office staff was also top notch with immediate responses. If you need the best lawyer firm in town then Mr Scott Kotler is man!

Where should I start? I almost fell off the bed when I received a phone call at 9:00PM EST from the Miami Jail from a “very kind” officer informing me that on New Year’s weekend my “smart” kid was arrested at the airport, was at the jail discussing the stock market, however needed to be bailed out! My response “sure right this is a joke right, why is he in Miami, he usually celebrates New Year’s Rock-N-Eve in New York” and where are his stock market computers and his electronics? Never mind I said, I can ask him; I was on my way out of town, was my response, but let me think about this! I initially thought you know what just leave him there, then after I got over the shock, I called Attorney Kotler’s number, Attorney Kotler advised and I quote “I am on vacation in California, but hang tight DON’T PANIC”! Do you have the arrest number and what is your Son’s name, I believe is what he asked (I was still in shock) Good God my first time going through any jail issues and I thought that my Son was going to have to spend New Year’s in jail. I asked Attorney Kotler if I should just leave my Son in jail (I was joking after the shocking phone call from the officer at the jail) Very funny Mom was his response. He immediately advised on what to do PRIOR to even retaining his services, I bonded my Son out and then met the most incredible Ms. Jennifer who is Attorney Kotler’s paralegal. I retained his services and he represented my Son in court to ask the state to drop the charges. This review isn’t just about Attorney Kotler being a LAWYER! This is about him being a HUMAN first and understanding the stress that something surprising like this can cause on a single parent with a disability, but even more importantly understanding that even smart kids especially when they have a high intelligence can still have run ins with Law Enforcement. Let me add how grateful I am that Attorney Kotler took the case, represented my Son well and allowed me to be on the sidelines w/my Son’s permission in case he needed further assistance from me other than simply retaining his services. There is no amount of money that I could pay him to keep the STRESS off of me and fighting for my Son. I offered him a thank you gift, lunch money, dinner money, but he said no that he was happy to be of service when we needed him. I discussed with my Son the possibility of residing in Miami because who would not want to be near their Amazing Attorney. Now about Ms. Jennifer, there is no possible way in my opinion that Attorney Kotler could do and be all that he is without an “AMAZING & INCREDIBLE” assistant such as Ms. Jennifer! Ms. Jennifer deserves a thank you gift~Kindest

Scott came highly recommended and lived up to his reputation!! He walked us through the system and explained in detail the outcome of every decision as different options came up. Both Scott and Jennifer were helpful and available 24/7. Scott had the worse charges dismissed and negotiated the best deal on the rest.

I would highly recommend Mr. Kotler. He assisted my family member and when I say he was very professional and explained every detail even when i asked questions and he was not representing me. He went the extra mile to speak personally to my family member as to getting caught up with the wrong company. He was very thorough and when it came time for trial he never gave up and fought his hardest. I am very grateful to Mr. Kotler for her high ethic, work ethic, and just being human, not thinking less of anyone for making a bad choice. It was a breathe of fresh air. Thank you Mr. Kotler. Yes, it was a win for us....

I went in to see Carolina to help my father with an immigration issue. He had a case from 1985 that was could have gotten him deported. Ms. Corona informed us that we can try to get the case re-opened and try to get the charges reduced. After about 6 months I just got word that the judge approved to re open the case. We are now waiting to see what will happen with the original case but she is very knowledgable and has been very helpful through out the process. I will post an update when I get one.

Johnlee solved a contract problem for me with reasonable billing. He did just what a lawyer is supposed to do by providing "a lawyer's stock in trade" which is good advice and direction based on his education and experience. I thought his extensive education in other fields was a big help as well.

Alejandro Vera is a great Estate Lawyer and Bilingual. I was looking for a Spanish speaking lawyer as my mother only speaks Spanish. After speaking to Alejandro over the phone I hired him. Alejandro has a true passion for his job. Compassion for his clients. When me and my mother went to his office he immediately asked my mother what was her first language. He spoke to my mother in Spanish and answered all my mother's questions. Alejandro has great communication skills and a willingness to listen. Alejandro did a awesome job with the Estate Will and gave me very clear instructions. I will recommend Alejandro Vera. Thank you very much.

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.

Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Miami, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
