Pros
1
Exceptional legal knowledge and expertise
“The most knowledgable lawyer I have ever encountered. I have worked with approximately a dozen lawyers in recent years and Dorothy Easley knows the law like most people know the alphabet.”
2
Dedication and work ethic
“An incredibly hard working and attentive lawyer. As opposing counsel was working very hard to have my case thrown out, Dorothy Easley went above and beyond to not let one thing pass her desk without 'dotting every i and crossing every t...'”
3
Respected in the legal community
“A very well connected and well respected attorney; my case required many additional legal inputs and Dorothy Easley was able to connect me with great attorneys in other areas who were able to provide information and also represent me properly and for a fair price.”
4
Personalized and compassionate service
“A real personal involvement in my case. Dorothy Easley really took me 'under her wing' in this case. She respresented me almost as if I were a close friend or family member. She fought hard for me, told me what I needed to do and answered calls/ emails at all times including weekends, after hours and holidays.”
5
Reasonable and transparent pricing
“A very fair price. This is to date my first major legal situation, and in hiring Dorothy Easley, she suggested that we work on a flat rate based on a number of hours she thought the case would require. Since payment, we have gone well over those hours, however Dorothy continues to work tirelessly under our original agreement.”

This attorney was diligent in communicating court process and case arguments with me. Her legal expertise, knowledge of case law and appellate procedures served me well. The appellate case was decided in my favor. If ever needed, I would hire this appellate attorney again.

We consulted with Dorothy about a possible appeal of a Federal District Court ruling that went against our company. Dorothy was very impressive, and if we proceed with the appeal, we definitely intend to engage her. She took the time to review the relevant documents and information, and it was clear she had a full grasp of the issues and was able to express her opinion in a very clear and concise way. She did not try to oversell us on the prospects of our appeal. As business people, we appreciated her total honesty and frankness about the risks/rewards of an appeal, the cost and timing. Most impressive was her quick grasp of the issues, and the thoughtful way she analyzed them and vetted the ones which would be worth pursuing. She is also clearly very energetic, and without doubt would spend all the effort necessary to achieve the best result for us. I know with Dorothy on our team we would be in very good hands.

I am a pain specialist with almost 40 years experience in medical field. I filed a lawsuit against a large corporation. The case was complex filed in 2013 and tried in 2020. I won some claims and lost some claims. I looked for a appeal lawyer. After lengthy search and after speaking to many other appeal lawyers, I decided to hire Mrs. Easley. This was one of my best decision I have ever made in my life. When I first talk to her over the phone after I sent her some documents related to the case and the trial, she showed full understanding of the case and very professionally express her initial opinion about the case. Mrs. Easley is a very good listener to her client. She encouraged me to write my concerns about the case and encouraged me to add my personal opinion and my highlights of the key facts of the case. She arranged conference meeting with my trial attorney, myself and herself to discuss her plan in writing her appeal. The arguments in her initial brief, the reply and the answer to the defendant cross initial brief were very well written and clearly expressed. I am , so far, very happy, feeling blessed to hire Mrs. Easly as my appeal lawyer. Regardless of the outcome of this appeal, Mrs. Easly had filed a wonderful professional appeal. I am very grateful to her.

I went in to see Carolina to help my father with an immigration issue. He had a case from 1985 that was could have gotten him deported. Ms. Corona informed us that we can try to get the case re-opened and try to get the charges reduced. After about 6 months I just got word that the judge approved to re open the case. We are now waiting to see what will happen with the original case but she is very knowledgable and has been very helpful through out the process. I will post an update when I get one.

Johnlee solved a contract problem for me with reasonable billing. He did just what a lawyer is supposed to do by providing "a lawyer's stock in trade" which is good advice and direction based on his education and experience. I thought his extensive education in other fields was a big help as well.

Alejandro Vera is a great Estate Lawyer and Bilingual. I was looking for a Spanish speaking lawyer as my mother only speaks Spanish. After speaking to Alejandro over the phone I hired him. Alejandro has a true passion for his job. Compassion for his clients. When me and my mother went to his office he immediately asked my mother what was her first language. He spoke to my mother in Spanish and answered all my mother's questions. Alejandro has great communication skills and a willingness to listen. Alejandro did a awesome job with the Estate Will and gave me very clear instructions. I will recommend Alejandro Vera. Thank you very much.

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Miami, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
