A 10/10 lawyer. I was in despair when I hired Seda. I was in Angola (Africa), because I was, I had very little hope. I needed to go back to the US for school. It was stressful. However, she handled things brilliantly. And her light. I was like "Really? Does this kind of person exist?". I was like "Wow" in my mind. It was such a pleasure meeting you, Seda. And thanks for everything.

My name is Dr Matt S., and I provide my very highest regards to Attorney Seda Aktas for invaluable legal assistance that she provided to me in 2014. I was a recent transplant to South Florida--been here only 6 weeks--when I got in serious trouble with the law. I was charged with DUI and, frighteningly, felony drug possession for having some my girlfriend’s pain pills on me when at arrest. After spending 42 hours in a Dade County jail, and $6,000 in bail money to get released, the seriousness of my situation was crystal clear. What wasn’t clear to me, however, was how I would even begin to fight the unfair charges that could have put me in prison for several years. I was scared. I needed a top-notch attorney, and time was running short for me. I researched local lawyers on the internet, and spoke with several by phone. No shortage of lawyers that were willing to take my case, but I was thoroughly unimpressed with most. I was 100% certain that I wanted to fight the charges against me as hard as I could—I wasn’t guilty and I was not going to settle for a plea ‘bargain’. Period. However, it was clear that most lawyers that I’d consulted with, without even examining the details of my case past a first telephone conference, were leaning towards that legal approach. Though embarrassing to admit, when younger I’d had a few run-ins with the law (misdemeanor) that of course don’t work in my favor in the courtroom. I badly needed an attorney who could take that into consideration and still mount an aggressive defense. Fortunately, I met Seda Aktas. My girlfriend, a former attorney, reached out for legal advice for me, and Atty Aktas was recommended by several of her colleagues. I called her. I was impressed with Seda from our first conversation. On the phone, Seda was straightforward, sympathetic, and clearly knowledgeable about cases like mine. Talking with Seda was more encouraging vs all the other attorneys that I’d spoken with. Importantly, Seda is a former prosecuting attorney herself, so she knows very well the attitudes and approaches of both sides of a legal system that threatened to convict and imprison me, which would have destroyed my life. My only hesitation was that Seda was younger than most of the attorneys I’d talked with, and maybe didn’t have the same experience level as older attorneys—I was wrong. If anything, her relative youth equaled more energy. My favorable impressions of Seda were only strengthened after meeting her in person, and I left her office feeling so relieved to know that I had Attorney Aktas on my side. Seda Aktas really came through for me. Accessibility to my lawyer, after legal knowledge and courtroom talent, is an important factor to me. Seda was always available when I had questions or worries, and was quick to get back to me. Text and email responses were always rapid, even when she was busy with major federal trials. If more detailed exchanges were necessary, then phone calls or office visits were never a problem. With Seda, I never questioned whether my attorney was truly on-the-job. Facing criminal charges is highly stressful, on top of all the usual pains in life. Though the legal system is fickle and final outcomes can be unpredictable, Seda’s attentiveness and proactive approach to my case greatly reduced my anxiety level. Attorney Seda Aktas kicked some legal butt! Seda convinced the prosecutor that the drug charge evidence against me was weak, and that charge was dropped entirely. That left the DUI, which we targeted for trial. Although a DUI is minor compared to the felony, it still can cause serious lasting damage. And a DUI conviction is expensive. Very. After several court appearances, the DUI charge was also dismissed. My legal outcomes could not have been better! I hope never again to face the legal system as a criminal defendant. However, if I ever again need a reliably excellent attorney, I will definitely call Seda Aktas.

I needed a criminal defense attorney in South Florida to defend me and my mother against allegations by our [mentally disturbed] neighbor that lives below us in our vacation condominium in Fort Lauderdale. The neighbor constantly complains of noise even when we aren’t in the unit or in the state. Police, security, board and management found no negligence but eventually this raged our neighbor more and she escalated her accusations against us to assault, battery, harassment and injunctions for restraining orders on us. She had friends lie for her so we were dealing with a serious issue and finding the best attorney to represent us against these crazy allegations was important, no doubt. I researched for the top rated criminal defense attorneys in the Fort Lauderdale/Miami area and found the higher rated through Avvo.com. I phone interviewed at least a dozen and while mostly all of them seemed well trained, they only spoke about money and how much the costs would accrue during representing our case. Not one of them seemed to care about the facts of the case. My final call was to Ms. Seda Aktas and from the first conversation with her I felt at ease - my fear was minimized and I hired her on the spot. I felt her passion and knew she would represent my mother and I with utmost care. Most important, I trusted her and knew she would take the case serious and wasn’t just ‘in it for the money’. The final result was DIMISSA for criminal and civil, all charges dropped (two injunctions, four hearings and a final trial)! It was a scary and stressful year for me and my mother to go through this and Seda was always available to take calls and talk through any concerns with us. Most important – she reminded me to breath which I needed every now and then!!! Needless to say, we are very thankful to Seda and we love her as a person and an attorney. Winning this case for us made many people happy, including our security, the management and our board (since our neighbor has a history of harassing others in our building). Seda has become a hero in our building and within our community of friends that witnessed our challenges with the neighbor. I would recommend Ms. Seda Aktas to anyone that needs a Brainiac criminal defense attorney that achieves favorable results.

I went in to see Carolina to help my father with an immigration issue. He had a case from 1985 that was could have gotten him deported. Ms. Corona informed us that we can try to get the case re-opened and try to get the charges reduced. After about 6 months I just got word that the judge approved to re open the case. We are now waiting to see what will happen with the original case but she is very knowledgable and has been very helpful through out the process. I will post an update when I get one.

Johnlee solved a contract problem for me with reasonable billing. He did just what a lawyer is supposed to do by providing "a lawyer's stock in trade" which is good advice and direction based on his education and experience. I thought his extensive education in other fields was a big help as well.

Alejandro Vera is a great Estate Lawyer and Bilingual. I was looking for a Spanish speaking lawyer as my mother only speaks Spanish. After speaking to Alejandro over the phone I hired him. Alejandro has a true passion for his job. Compassion for his clients. When me and my mother went to his office he immediately asked my mother what was her first language. He spoke to my mother in Spanish and answered all my mother's questions. Alejandro has great communication skills and a willingness to listen. Alejandro did a awesome job with the Estate Will and gave me very clear instructions. I will recommend Alejandro Vera. Thank you very much.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Miami, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
