We were truly blessed to have been referred to Syfrett, Dykes & Furr following an unthinkable tragedy in our life. They proved to be tireless and relentless in their advocacy, professional and skilled in their representation, and genuinely caring and attentive in all aspects of their support. Most importantly, they compassionately guided us through the most difficult chapter of our life with empathy and the assurance of “having our back” when we needed it most. Words cannot fully express how much we have appreciated their tremendous work on our behalf. Thank you Clayton, Ashley, and all of the staff at Syfrett, Dykes & Furr.

Syfrett. Dykes and Furr Law Firm in my opinion is a first class, highly professional, goal oriented law firm. I was referred to them by a very good friend of mine, who had dealt with the firm in the past. I was initially hesitant about using them because their office was a couple of hours away from where I live, but I decided to go with them and I'm very grateful that I did. I initially corresponded with Dawn, and then Alicia. These two ladies, along with my attorney, Mr Furr, worked diligently to prepare me for my case, and I went in to my initial hearing with the Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) feeling well prepared. Unfortunately, I was wrongly denied benefits by the ALJ, and my attorney, Mr Furr knew it. To be honest, I was ready to give up my pursuit of obtaining Social Security Disability Insurance claim, because it had been almost 2 years since I started this benefits, and I was just tired of the fight. But, Mr Furr. said that he felt that he felt that I had a strong case, and he thought that I should continue the fight. I reluctantly agreed to continue pursuing my benefits, so Mr Furr sent my case through the federal judge appeal process, and the federal judge agreed that I was wrongly denied benefits, and ordered that my case be sent back to the Social Security Administration, ALJ, to be re-heard. Again, Mr Furr, Dawn and Alicia worked diligently to prepare me for my second hearing, and to make a longer story short, I won my second appeal. 😀 😊🙏🏽. I am forever grateful to my attorney, Mr Furr, Ms Dawn, Ms Alicia, and the entire Syfrett, Dykes and Furr Law Firm, and I highly recommend them to all who are looking for a professional, caring, experienced, and a one team-one fight, Law Firm. Thank You for reading my post. God bless you and may God bless the Syfrett Dykes and Furr Law Firm.

Pros
1
Caring and dedicated attorneys who go above and beyond for their clients
“Douglas and his assistant Stephanie, are real people who care about you as a person and not all about the $$$. They go above and beyond to keep you updated and will answer you calls and emails on the same day.”
2
Exceptional legal expertise and successful case outcomes
“I highly recommend Doug Dykes as a strong, compassionate and persistent attorney. He helped me through a difficult personal injury case. His attention to detail and creativity was amazing.”
3
Personalized and supportive client experience
“Mr. Dykes and office helped me when I was hit by driver. His office was extremely helpful and was available 24/7 to me and my family. He kept me informed at all times with me case. Mr. Dykes was more than a lawyer, anytime I need to talk or having issues with anything else he was there.”
Cons
1
Lack of competence or responsiveness for certain types of cases, particularly Social Security Disability claims
“I hired this firm to represent me in my Social Security disability claim. Big mistake! I've never felt so unrepresented while being represented by an attorney. I received no support, no guidance or direction from him as to what I needed to do to win my case on appeal.”
2
Occasional issues with communication and billing practices
“They pressured me into pushing my filing date back by at least 6 months after telling me beforehand that i would get approved. Before we went into the courtroom they never explained that was even a thing much less possibility. [...] I called them ONCE for under 5 minutes afterwards to ask 1 question, no one informed me that I would be charged for this and they were paid when i won my disability case.”

Mr. Stafford came highly recommended both personally and professionally and was hired to settle a contract dispute. Upon contacting his office I was quickly set up with an appointment. Although he did not handle the original contract, he provided professional, knowledgeable assistance regarding the issue and resolved my case quickly. He made sure I was well informed and promptly took or returned my calls if I had any questions about my case. I would not hesitate to hire him again.

I had a case from a whole other State. I wasn't sure when I first called where to even start because I had just moved here from Utah. I hadn't seen a doctor since I moved here. When I called this place they helped me out every step along the way!! The ladies at the office, Penny and Dawn and Diane, they will take good care of you like they did me. And Mr. Furr sure did win my case and I'm sure if you have a case, he'll win for you too!!

Dealing with a misdemeanor traffic violation and William went above and behind to insure I was treated fair and that my CDL license would have minimal impact. Very respectful, hard working, on point with communication and definitely a blessing to his field of work.

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Panama City, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
