I recently had a great experience with Mr. Bilu or Bilu and Bilu Law firm. I would like to thank him and share with you my good experience. Mr. Bilu is a very knowledgeable and experience attorney with an outstanding reputation. It was clear early on in my working with him that ultimately everything would work out well for me and my situation and it did. He was actually able to get more then I had anticipated. He also was prompt in returning my calls or emails when I had a question or concern. This was important to me. In addition, his staff was very helpful and professional though the entire process. I would recommend and have recommended Geil Bilu and should a need arise, call on him again.

We hired Mr. Bilu to help us get out of a contract with a large custom homes builder. We had entered into a purchase contract with this homes builder about a year ago. As required, we had put down a large deposit. The home was built and it was time to go to closing. However, we has still not sold our current home. Therefore, the builder wanted to cancel the purchase agreement and keep our deposit. We did not have a contingency but we did have a VA Addendum with the builder. Mr. Bilu communicated with the builder on our behalf. He was able to obtain our deposit back from the builder. At first, I was a little hesitant to work with Mr. Bilu merely because he was going on vacation. However, he maintained open communication with me regarding the updates provided from the builder's attorney. I was very pleased that he would take the time to answer my emails promptly during his vacation. Mr. Bilu was direct and made everything simple. Thank you! Also, for the record we had consulted another attorney regarding the same case before Mr. Bilu and we were not happy since he didn't really take time to even take a look at our "case". He dismissed us saying that the builder had the right to keep our deposit even though we had an addendum that clearly stated the builder could not keep it.

He responded to my initial question but then I had another question and asked about pricing and I never heard from him again. I will just have to shop around and make phone calls rather than send emails when I have the time.

We were in the process of losing our home. Geil was very sympathetic to our situation . He explained the possible outcomes and strategies. Geil clearly had the knowledge and experience. We proceeded with the defense of our case. Geil kept us informed as the court date approached. The court transcript of the case showed a true professional defense attorney at work. We won our case. Thank God and Geil.

Geil and his firm represent me in my foreclosure. My situation is quite unique as I am a high earner but my house is under-water to the tune of over $300K. I have been trying to renegotiate under HARP and HARP II for 3+ years and I always get turned down due to my income. However paying this mortgage for the rest of my life with negative equity, with constantly escalating interest rates is just plain stupid. So I hired Geil to handle my foreclosure. His attentiveness, knowledge and professionalism have kept me in my home for over 2 years and there is no end in sight. In fact it is possible I may end up owning the house free and clear of a mortgage. My only complaint is that I must ping him and his staff for an update rather than he sending me periodic updates on my case, but this is minor since I always get an immediate and professional response from him when I contact him. However I would recommend to him that he develop a contact tickler that sends an update on your case every three months or so, even if its to say nothing new to report. However I recommend him highly and have already done so. I would hire him again in a heartbeat.

Mr.Zimmerman is a very kind man who takes his profession very seriously. If you need a great attorney Mr.Zimmerman would be the one to call. We have been with him over 25 years and would not feel the need to go to anyone else.

I was fortunate to meet Lanny and hire his representation after a bad accident. I was hit by a teenager driver who was texting and traveling over 100 mph. I sustained serious injuries, my work van was totaled. Lanny helped me recover lost wages, Property losses, made sure all medical were paid by the insurance. He guided me every step of the way and I couldn't be more grateful. He is the only attorney I ever met that I could call on his cell whenever I had a question and he always time to talk. Definitely the best attorney in my mind.

We used Mr. Shanbom for the purchase of our condo. He was fantastic to work with during the whole process. He took the lead making sure that the condo issues were resolved and that the closing went smoothly. I was working from out of state and without him the matter wouldn't have closed. I would recommend him to my friends and family.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Pompano Beach, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
