SYNOPSIS: THE BEST. TRUE LIFESAVER. THANK YOU. I am very fortunate to have great friends and angels in my life. My friend who bailed/bonded me out of jail is also a long-time friend of Derek Byrd's. My friend called Mr. Byrd after I was released from Manatee County Jail and asked him for a favor- to accept me as a client. This is a favor because Derek Byrd is the only lawyer in Sarasota with the highest credentials, fame and reputation in town. Derek Byrd is that lawyer in town that everyone has heard of, that everyone respects, and that if ever in trouble, the only lawyer that you want. I was so grateful that after I met with Mr Byrd and told him what had happened in did in fact agree to represent me as legal counsel. I was charged with five alleged crimes: felony criminal mischief over $1,000, interfering with a hunter and his game, petty larceny, release of an invasive species into the state without a license and other alleged violations of Florida Fish & Wildlife Commission. Five months prior to my arrest, I was walking my dog on private property/ condo common area that abuts a wetland preserve. I was not expecting anything other than a pleasant walk but I stumbled upon a horrific scene. A mother pig and her two babies were trapped inside a rusty, sharp and exposed wire trap cage. I heard the terror of their screams, desperate attempts to jump out of the cage only to fall back with a loud thud on the hard dirt. Or desperate to escape they would charge the cage and try to topple it but that didn't work either. The mother pig had an open bloody gash across her face from eye to eye. I ran home to drop my dog off so he wouldn't frighten them and I grabbed some tools and ran back to cut the wires and allow them to escape. I returned home shaken, shaking and cried for hours. Five months later, I was arrested in my home after calling 911 for an unrelated matter. He produced results better than I could have ever dreamed of and faster too. HE WAS ABLE TO GET EVERY CHARGE AGAINST ME DROPPED! He most undoubtedly saved my life. I'll be forever most grateful & indebted to him- not only for the outcome because that can be beyond any attorneys' control. I'll always be grateful for his genuine caring about me, helping me and doing the right thing. HE IS THE BEST!
