Irene is very knowledgeable about Real Estate Law and is defending me in my foreclosure case. Every time I call I can speak with her directly and she is very friendly and wants what's best for us. She is a great asset to have when in the Florida court system dealing with a foreclosure.

Michael was excellent. He secured us the settlement we wanted after heavy hail damage to our roof. Our HOI was being shady. I would recommend him to anyone. I will hire him again if the need should arise.

Mr. Sapourn was recommended to me as an attorney who had great knowledge and experience in dealing with insurance companies. I had been denied a claim and did not know what to do. He came to my aid and was able to secure a fair settlement. He was quick to act, always on time and I felt as if my issue was important to him. The fact that I will use his services again is my highest endorsement.

I am a former police officer who was injured during a defensive training class in which ultimately resulted in a career ending back surgery. I applied for disability retirement through the city that I worked for and I was advised to seek legal council. When I met with Mr. Sapourn he was very honest with me as he explained that he had never been hired for a case such as mine. He assured me that he would work hard and do his homework on this case but couldn't guarantee the outcome. During the process Mr. Sapourn was very informative and would answer any questions or concerns that I may have had. He was always on time and prepared for every meeting that we had with the city. Because of Mr. Sapourn's dedication to my case I was awarded disability benefits. I would recommend Michael Sapourn to anyone with a situation such as mine. He really did his homework!

I, as most people do not have a lot of experience with lawyers. So finding a lawyer in a new place was daunting. To our great fortune Charles was willing to give us a hand. If you are looking for an HONEST lawyer this is your guy. He listen to our problem and told us that we would need to make a case. When it became apparent that we did not have the info we needed he was honest in his options. As we now live here, Charles Kohler will be our lawyer

Purvi Patel was the attorney assigned to handle my case, about 8 months after I retained Richard Shuster. Purvi came to work at Shuster & Saben at about that time. I was introduced to her and was impressed with her depth of knowledge, and her complete familiarity and understanding of the facts pertaining to my case PRIOR to us ever meeting face to face. As the case progressed, she handled every aspect, and kept me informed at every step of the way. She was always available and answered calls, and inquiries, almost immediately. Her research and input to the case, I am sure, provided a large part of the details that assisted Richard Shuster when it came time for him to argue my case in court.....and subsequently win the case. I enjoyed working with her, and would enthusiastically refer her to anyone needing a foreclosure defense attorney.

After our first attorney backed away from our case, my wife and I hired Purvi and she was able to successfully win our case at trial. I found her to be diligent in preparing. Very intelligent. Well spoken in the court room. And most importantly she was an outstanding advocate for us during the case. She is truly an attorney who I would recommend to a friend. I know she spent long hours working on our case and we appreciate her! And based upon her demeanor, I assume she will give your case the same level of care and concern.

Ms. Patel is a very genuine and caring person. She put her all into defending me in this action and giving me the best advise available. I am very happy to have such a wonderful lawyer on my team. They have given me much peace of mind during this ordeal. Many attorneys would tire of a case that has gone on for this amount of time, but not Ms. Patel, she is as active and concerned today as she was at the start of this case.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Satellite Beach, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
