Michael Dyer was one of the first calls I made during an extremely difficult period of my life. I had zero knowledge about separation and divorce. All I knew was I needed it done and with guidance. My very first call with him he gave me an explanation with great detail about what it would entail and the proper steps to take in order to proceed with my divorce. He made sure I felt comfortable and that my needs were met as well as making sure I had everything to gain and wasn’t being taken advantage of from my ex partner. Mike doesn’t only exceed his expectations as a lawyer but made me feel safe as for someone like myself with emotional and learning disabilities. I appreciated his willingness to be patient with me. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a lawyer to represent them including friends, family, peers. Thank you again Michael for making one of the most terrifying, difficult things for me an easy process.

I'm new to writing online reviews, nonetheless I hope anyone looking to retain Mr. Dyer will read this post. For the last 12 years, I have been dealing with lawyers, both professionally and in my personal life, unfortunately. I trust Mr. Dyer and his firm like I trust my family. Anytime I had an issue pop up throughout the duration of my cases, they were quick to come to bat for me and they always produced the best result. It didn't take long for me to learn they take pride and care in all cases, large or small, high-profile or just your average person. After witnessing Mr. Dyer fiercely battle for my children, I was not surprised when I later learned he too was a parent. This gentleman treats his clients like they're family, and he fights for them like they're family. Additionally, he has taken the expert knowledge of the field and communication capability to a level of perfection - this was particularly helpful for me as our court systems legal lingo can most times be difficult to follow. It's truly remarkable to witness him manipulate the law so exquisitely and brilliantly. I am very happy with my results with Mr. Dyer and his firm, and I am grateful for their loyalty and compassion in my family's darkest time of need. I will indubitably proceed to retain Mr. Dyer in future cases, but for now will enjoy the peacefulness that his hard work and dedication recently awarded my children and I. Hats off to you, Mike!

If you want an attorney who is responsive and caring, Carlos should be your number one choice. I contacted Carlos for a consultation on employment and non-competes. He immediately lifted the burden for me and got to work. He is extremely professional He not only gave me answers right away, but assured me he would be there every step of the way. I am grateful to have him working on my case, and have enjoyed working with him so much that I know he will be my first choice attorney for life. Thank you Carlos!

I was recommended to Nicole by a mutual friend in 2005 and she assisted me in a child custody matter concerning my granddaughter. I have since referred her to friends and used her myself for similar cases, real estate transactions and other legal matters, all of which were resolved better than could be anticipated. The thing I appreciate most about Nicole and that separates her from other attorneys I have used in the past is the fact that she tries to get you to work the matter out with the other party and not have you cut off communication (a tactic commonly used by other attorneys to rack up their bill). She truly cares about helping you come to an amicable resolution. However, this being said she becomes a bulldog if necessary and the case goes to trial.

First legal relationship I ever had in 1986 with a new real estate investment and incorporating my company: since I have retained Counselor Bennett for estate planning with my parents, in-laws and my Personal family wills. He was at my wedding and my parents funerals: a family friend for 36 years!

It seems that I have known David forever. I have retained him over a number of years from time to time and been very happy with the results that he was able to obtain for me. My first experience with him as an attorney many years ago was when my father retained him to pursue a fire damage claim to our family’s seashore summer house in New Jersey. In the offseason, workmen were renovating the interior of the house and, specifically, installing a new kitchen. After they had left for the weekend, a fire started in the house in the middle of the night and there was significant fire damage. David had the moxie to retain the retired Fire Marshall for the City of Philadelphia as an expert witness who confirmed David’s suspicion as to the cause and origin of the fire. Before they had left for the weekend, the workmen had decided to have a party in the living room to celebrate the end of the work week. Along with the empty beer cans, one of the workers inadvertently dropped a lit cigarette inside the living room couch to smolder for several hours resulting in the fire. In proving the origin and burn pattern of the fire, David was able to secure a sizable and unexpected settlement from the insurance carrier for the renovation company. The latest matter that David handled for me was the administration of the estate of my late mother who owned personal and real property in the States of New Jersey and Florida. His administration of the estate in those separate jurisdictions was seamless. His particular knowledge of New Jersey income tax procedure saved me tens of thousands of dollars that my accountant was prepared to have me hand over to the tax authorities in that State. Even when the Florida estate administration became complicated by the homeowners association action to foreclose on the Florida house for alleged non-payment of HOA fees, David was able to have that matter resolved and dismissed. He is quite a talent and I would highly recommend him to anyone.

I am a CPA in the suburban Philadelphia are, and have known David personally for over 50 years and professionally for more than 30 years. If I have a particularly complex estate or trust matter which may or has included fiduciary litigation, income, gift or estate taxation, and has litigation between beneficiaries, creditors or as against the Internal Revenue Service, I have David on my speed dial. Ultimately, these matters are referred to him, and our office has retained him on any number of related files. Not only a good friend by his deeds, I once had to explain to my father that the reason we were good friends was that he was and is fearless, no matter the adversary in and out of business. So it was no surprise to me when he took on the fifth largest law firm at the time in Philadelphia and beat them representing a contestant in a will contest over a several million dollar estate even though his adversaries had the advantage financially and with a far more extensive staff at their disposal. I would enthusiastically recommend him to any potential client.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of West Palm Beach, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
