3
Effective communication and transparency throughout the legal process
“Mr. Bushway was knowledgeable, thorough, and understanding. Even though it can be an uncomfortable and stressful situation to enlist a criminal law firm. Mr. Bushway's competence and consideration made my decision easy.”
4
Dedication to achieving the best possible outcome for each client
“He was passionate and dedicated to achieving the best possible outcome for my brother's case.”
5
Friendly and responsive staff that provide excellent client support
“Jena in the front office is awesome as well! Very professional, always a pleasure to deal with.”
Cons
1
Unresponsiveness and lack of communication in some cases
“Does not return phone calls after you pay $5,000 for a retainer. Was highly recommended by a friend and as soon as the money was paid he was done. Has his receptionist lie for him.”
2
Potential for mistakes and oversights that can negatively impact the client's case
“Unfortunately, I had a disappointing experience with both attorneys. Keagan Waystack failed to represent me as she promised upon our consultation. It took triple the amount of time estimated to complete a service by publication divorce, which does happen, however the constant mistakes by either her or her staff got to the point of where I had to become the squeaky wheel.”

I hired Mr Bushway to represent me for some major felony charges that threatened to take me from my family for quite a long time. I was still incarcerated when I retained Mr. Bushway, and had been denied bond due to being from Florida. Mr bushway worked with my family’s budget, and allowed us to make payments on the total balance. Within a week of retaining Mr bushway, he not only got me a bond hearing, but got my bond approved, and set at a reasonable price. I was able to get out and get back to work. Shortly after, I was arrested in Florida on some unrelated charges, and I had to serve 2 years in Florida prisons. When I was arrested, I had not finished paying Mr bushway, and he had every single right to drop my case, due to my new arrest and my failure to complete payments. Not only did he inform the courts of my situation, and stop them from putting out warrants, he waited until my release and my first court date after being released from Florida DOC, Mr bushway was able to get the worst of my charges dismissed, and time served on the rest. Mr Bushway was able to get my case resolved in a way I never would have imagined, and he did all of this without even knowing for sure when I would finish the last payment. This goes to show you his true character and his immense compassion for his fellow humans. He cared more about getting me the best possible outcome, than he did getting the rest of his money. And yes, I did pay him immediately after court, because that is how he makes a living, and he deserves so much more than I can even begin to offer. Mr Bushway did his absolute best for me, and he fought for my freedom. He is absolutely the best choice for a defense lawyer, and also an amazing human being. Thank you Mr Bushway, and god bless you always!

Greg is phenomenal. He’s a damn good man and fights for what’s right. I couldn’t be more thankful for him taking my case. He stood for what was right and was honest and true to me the whole time. As a man alone he is solid. As a lawyer, he plays no games. Wouldn’t trade him for anything. Legit as can be!!

I cannot say enough about how pleased I was with Cliff Carlson and Ron Daniels! They never once stopped fighting for me, and offered the best advice for my legal matter. Their staff is just as helpful and pleasant as they are. Angie always kept me updated and all three have went out of their way for me during my case. If you want an attorney that is going to bring it all, you should hire them! Thank you so much for taking care of me with my situation. You all deserve 10 stars!

Mr. Carlson represented me against a debt collector that was suing me. I was so scared that I was going to lose everything I had worked for, and I knew I could not afford an attorney. He quickly found a mistake they made, and they paid his fees and me. I didn't have to pay anything. Just like that, the stress was gone. Such a relief

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Macon, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
