Astute, tenacious, and strategic—these are just a few of the many qualities that immediately come to mind when describing Ms. Wilkerson as my lawyer. I cannot recommend her highly enough, nor can I fully express how satisfied I am with her representation. I hired Ms. Wilkerson to represent me in family court against an opposing counsel and party that was exceedingly aggressive and divisive, far beyond what I had anticipated. Through prayer and the grace of God, I was led to her, and she proved to be exactly what I needed during one of the most challenging times of my life. From the very beginning, Ms. Wilkerson demonstrated an exceptional level of competence and professionalism that far exceeded my expectations. She was sharp, thorough, and always well-prepared. Her meticulous research ensured that every necessary motion was filed, and every critical aspect of my case was addressed with precision, and might I add, properly cited with applicable laws and precedents. Her profound knowledge of the law was evident in her measured, strategic approach, allowing her to advocate assertively on my behalf while considering the bigger picture and life beyond the final hearing. Another one of Ms. Wilkerson’s most impressive qualities was her ability to use my time efficiently. Every meeting was focused and productive, leaving me informed, prepared, and confident for court. Her communication was exceptional—open, clear, and honest. She answered all my questions with patience and ensured I fully understood every step of the process. In court, her presentation was masterful—clear, articulate, and unwavering. She ensured my defense was bold yet appropriately measured, leaving no room for doubt. Beyond her legal expertise, Ms. Wilkerson provided invaluable coaching and guidance, helping me feel empowered and confident during a time when I felt anything but. Her balanced approach was particularly reassuring, as she always made decisions with both immediate outcomes and long-term consequences in mind. Ms. Wilkerson’s discernment and dedication to doing the work were unparalleled. Brilliantly skilled, assertive when needed, and unfailingly professional, Ms. Wilkerson turned what could have been an overwhelming experience into a manageable process. I am deeply grateful for her support and feel an immense sense of relief knowing she was by my side. If you’re looking for an outstanding divorce lawyer, look no further. I wholeheartedly recommend Ms. Wilkerson to anyone in need of exceptional representation.

The entire Legal Industrial Complex should be overhauled. I paid this firm $3690 on 9/2024. After attending a hearing for 15 mins and useless emails, calls, and texts, the balance is $107 without another court appearance. I requested a withdrawal from the case on Nov 22nd but they waited until Dec 2nd to inform me about signing a release form. From 11/22- 12/9 2024 they continued working the case(against my will) and running the bill up. I argued my own case in court and saved a ton of money. Paying an attorney an upfront fee only exposes the client to be taken advantage of as in this case. There are many positive experiences here but I had to make potential vulnerable divorce clients aware of my experience. They will run the bill up by calling, texting, and emailing the same document. I would send them a document to review before a phone conversation so they could be prepared but instead the attorney would not be familiar and run the bill up by asking useless questions that were covered in the document sent earlier. Stay away from attorneys if you can help it.

I highly recommend this attorney. He represented me in a car accident case last year in Oconee County. The insurance company initially did not want to pay much more than my medical bills and was giving me the run around. Mr. Haskell promptly filed a lawsuit and was able to get a great result for me at a time when my family and I needed it the most. He always returned my calls promptly and worked very hard on my case.

Thank you so much for you and your supporting staff in assisting me in my battle to secure social security disability insurance. It was a 30 month journey with a fully favorable decision at the end of the rainbow. Best advice you gave me was to never start back smoking and I have kept that advice. I could not have done this without you and your staff. Never underestimate the positive impact you have on people's lives. You believed in me or saw something in my case that kept your focus on getting me the help I needed. I guess what I'm rambling on to say is ..... thanks Jeff!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Macon, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
