Mr Bowden immediately put me at ease with his charming smile, then quickly bowled me over as he immediately grasped the key tenants of my case. He sat listening, asking great questions, and then said he would make some calls. Those calls kicked the right people into gear and little more was necessary. Thanks Ed.

Scott is by far the best attorney that I have ever engaged. In my job, I have worked with dozens of attorneys over a very wide range of legal actions and disputes. Each attorney has strengths and weaknesses but Scott's performance in my case was head and shoulders above any other attorney that I've encountered. As defense counsel, Scott brought a great deal of energy and intellect to my case. He kept the main points in clear focus while he prepared an extremely thorough brief and courtroom presentation with a surprising level of attention to detail. We had less than two weeks to prepare for trial from engagement to the actual arbitration but Scott was able to anticipate the opposing counsel's every move after devoting excessively long hours to research and preparation. The stakes were very high (millions of dollars) and Scott was able to obtain a good result. Not everything we wanted because that seldom happens in arbitration--but the plaintiffs knew they were in trouble from the opening statement. They were actually forced on the defensive and had to change their entire approach to the case after the first day of the trial. Scott's clients initially engage him because of his excellent reputation, successful track record and the tremendous amount of talent, dedication and creativity that he brings to each case. They become lifelong clients because of his concern, his passion, his dry humor and the reassurance that they experience even during the grim circumstances that surround legal disputes. I strongly recommend him.

I needed an attorney for a complex case involving an insurance company refusing to pay for covered services that could have potentially resulted in the death of my daughter. I used the bar finder for Thurston County and came up with several names. I called them all, and Paul was the first one to show interest in the case and the reasons given by the insurance company. When I first met Paul I was a little skeptical because of his age, but I was not left with a lot of choices. Paul worked with us on his fee, and understood that we were not in the best situation financially because of how much we had already payed in co-pay costs. Since this is a Federal Based Insurance Company for Retired military personnel, the issues were convoluted, complicated, and to say the very least difficult to navigate. We met with Paul explained the situation and retained him as our attorney. Since that time I have been nothing but completely impressed with this young man's ability. The amount of research he did to ensure that not just the major points, but all points where the insurance company had violated the law, and the contract to provide care were covered, explained and were addressed immediately to get my daughter the care she needed. Even though the hospital has not been paid, they understand the need and are continuing to treat my daughter based on this man's ability to fully explain the legal situation. The hospital that is treating my daughter is not involved in any negative way, and he has been in contact with them to the extent that the hospital is cooperating, even though I am sure they are leery that we may change our minds about who gets into litigation. In short, I would say that if you judge this man simply by age, you would be missing out on a great attorney. I stand behind this review 100%, and have given Paul permission to give my name and number to prospective clients that may be unsure of his qualifications.

Kari Lester is a great attorney! I felt that I was part of her team verses on the sideline watching. She kept me informed through the whole process. When you meet her she is petite and unassuming but when she is in court she becomes this feisty attorney that takes no crap (excuse my french). She responds to emails quickly and if she is unable to answer your questions in a timely manner she will have someone from her great team of paralegals reach out to you. I would recommend her to my family and friends. She is Intelligent, energetic, personable, and feisty all the things you look for in an lawyer.

Bob is a young attorney who is already making a good impression. He's bright, surprisingly knowledgeable for his age, and very, very well-liked and respected by his colleagues. He did much of the research and writing for important First Amendment briefs in our case, and he did an excellent job in his cross-examination of me in trial. He's a great resource to his firm and is already showing signs of becoming a truly outstanding attorney. I'm proud to have had him on our legal team.

“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” Edmund Burke As I put pen to paper I realize I have no words to do justice to the battle waged on my behalf by Rick and his dedicated team of justice fighters. I am simply not capable of putting into words the gratitude and respect I have for them as professionals, people and warriors. Warriors must rise to the top to defend those incapable of defending themselves. Not all battles are fought on the battle field. Some are fought in the court of law before a judge and jury, fought with the sword of truth and the rule of law. As we all know there is good and evil in the world. Evil comes in all shapes, colors and sizes and often disguises itself as good. As long as we go forward with the truth and there are honorable warriors to fight on our behalf, as you and your team have proven to be, the truth will prevail no matter how powerful and deceptive the opponent may be. The team of men and women led by Rick Friedman are dedicated to doing the right thing. Why? Because that’s what men and women of honor do. As Rick and his team prosecuted the truth on our behalf, the financial resources afforded my wife and I by the jury’s verdict has allowed us to better focus on adapting and living with the struggles of long term care associated with my traumatic brain injury. I want to thank Rick for taking the time to remove his attorney hat and speak to me as a friend about how to best move forward in rebuilding my life with a brain injury. Rick said “That if I only focus on what I can no longer do I would become a bitter and miserable human being. Instead figure out and focus on what you can still do and you will have the ability to live a fulfilling life.” As I continue to figure out and focus on what I can do to contribute I feel it’s important to anyone with a brain injury to hear this as I truly believe I would not be here today had I not taken and implemented Rick’s advice. Thank you again for all you and your team have done for my wife and I. God bless you all, Brad

I couldn't have been more happy for her and more satisfied with Mr. Schuster. Thanks again.

I truly appreciate James settling my case before the holidays. He went above and beyond keeping me informed on how my case was going. I was very impressed on how he litigated my case during the deposition. It requires a tough and knowledgeable lawyer to take a tough case like mine and I have to tell you, James is that tough lawyer that can take on any case no matter how difficult it might be. James believes and wants his clients to be compensated for their injuries. I want to thank James for taking my case and for all the hard work he put into it. Thank you James for my compensation. I recommend James to any one that needs a good, honest, and professional attorney.

Alex Ackel represented me in a personal injury case after I was seriously injured in a car accident. I found his practice through the recommendation of a friend, and they did not lead me astray. When I started the process I had no prior experience with personal injury law. Therefore, I appreciated that Alex set clear expectations about how the process would work and kept me informed throughout. His office staff were responsive and professional. Alex negotiated tirelessly on my behalf with both car insurance companies. I obviously wish I had not been hurt in the first place, but the experience working with Alex couldn't have gone more smoothly.

Brett has been very helpful with a wide variety of situations, but especially with contract negotiations and dispute resolutions. Regarding disputes, he is always very well prepared and has a knack for being firm without burning bridges with the other party. As a litigator, he has a good handle on what will or won't stand up in court, so we are always able to realistically assess our risks. Regarding negotiations, he is adept at adding protective language without killing the deal. He knows what's worth fighting for and what you can just let go. His fees are always reasonable without a bunch of fluff, and he's easy to work with.

Mr. Dan Bridges represented a family member in a personal injury matter over the past three years. Without getting into too much detail, I want you to know how kind, logical and respectful he is and that I do not believe there is another attorney around that could have done a better job. What impressed me the most was his ability to use strong logic in his argument of the case, which ended up settling very favorably for our family member. We were extremely impressed with his ability, professionalism, and would recommend him to anyone who is in need of an attorney.

What an Insurance Lawyer Can Do for You

An insurance lawyer specializes in legal issues related to insurance policies and claims. These lawyers help individuals, businesses, and insurance companies navigate disputes involving insurance coverage, claim denials, bad faith claims, and policy interpretation. Insurance lawyers can represent policyholders who feel they've been unfairly denied coverage, or they can work on behalf of insurance companies to defend against fraudulent or inflated claims.

Whether you're filing a claim, disputing a denial, or dealing with complex coverage issues, an insurance lawyer can provide critical guidance and legal representation to protect your rights and ensure you receive the benefits you're entitled to under your policy.

When Should I Hire an Insurance Lawyer?

Hiring an insurance lawyer is advisable in several situations, particularly when disputes arise over insurance coverage, claim denials, or bad faith actions. Common reasons to hire an insurance lawyer include:

  • Denied insurance claims: If your insurance company denies your claim, a lawyer can help determine whether the denial was justified or if you should challenge the decision.
  • Bad faith insurance practices: If you believe your insurer has acted in bad faith, such as delaying payment or failing to properly investigate your claim, a lawyer can help you pursue legal action.
  • Underpaid claims: If the insurance company has offered less compensation than you believe your claim is worth, a lawyer can negotiate for a higher payout or file a lawsuit.
  • Coverage disputes: When there's ambiguity or disagreement about what your policy covers, a lawyer can provide clarity and advocate for your rights under the policy.
  • Business insurance claims: If you own a business and are dealing with commercial insurance claims (e.g., property damage, liability, or professional indemnity), a lawyer can help ensure your business receives proper coverage.
  • Third-party claims: If you're being sued for liability and your insurance company refuses to defend or indemnify you, an insurance lawyer can help enforce your coverage rights.
  • Appealing long-term disability claims: If your disability insurance claim has been denied, a lawyer can assist in gathering evidence and appealing the decision to get the benefits you deserve.

What Does an Insurance Lawyer Do?

An insurance lawyer provides a wide range of services to assist with insurance-related legal issues. These can include:

  • Reviewing insurance policies: A lawyer can review your insurance policy to ensure you understand your rights and obligations, as well as clarify what coverage is provided.
  • Filing insurance claims: Assisting with the preparation and filing of claims to ensure all necessary documentation is submitted correctly.
  • Challenging claim denials: If your claim has been denied, a lawyer can investigate the reasons for denial and file appeals or lawsuits to challenge the decision.
  • Litigating bad faith claims: Representing clients in bad faith insurance cases, where the insurer fails to act in good faith by unfairly delaying, denying, or underpaying a valid claim.
  • Negotiating settlements: Helping policyholders negotiate settlements with insurance companies to receive fair compensation for claims.
  • Defending against fraudulent claims: Representing insurance companies to defend against false or exaggerated claims filed by policyholders or third parties.
  • Handling disputes over policy language: Interpreting complex insurance policies and resolving disputes between the insured and the insurer regarding coverage limits, exclusions, and conditions.

How Are Insurance Lawyers Paid?

Insurance lawyers typically charge for their services in different ways, depending on the nature of the case and the type of insurance issue involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Contingency fee: For many policyholders disputing claim denials or underpayments, lawyers work on a contingency basis. This means the lawyer only gets paid if they win or settle the case, taking a percentage (usually between 25% and 40%) of the recovered amount.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing legal issues, such as bad faith lawsuits or business insurance disputes, insurance lawyers may charge an hourly rate. This rate varies depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For simpler matters, such as reviewing an insurance policy or helping file a claim, some lawyers charge a flat fee for their services.
  • Retainer: For businesses or clients with ongoing legal needs, an insurance lawyer may require a retainer fee, which is an upfront payment for future services.

It’s important to clarify the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does an Insurance Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an insurance lawyer depends on the complexity of the case, the lawyer's experience, and the payment structure. General cost estimates include:

  • Contingency fees: If your lawyer works on a contingency fee basis, you won’t pay any fees upfront, but the lawyer will take a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or judgment awarded.
  • Hourly rates: Hourly rates for insurance lawyers generally range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location. Complex cases involving bad faith or high-value business claims may require significant hours, leading to higher legal costs.
  • Flat fees: For specific services, such as reviewing an insurance policy, lawyers may charge a flat fee ranging from $500 to $2,500, depending on the complexity of the task.
  • Retainers: Businesses or individuals seeking ongoing insurance legal services may pay a retainer, which can range from $5,000 to $20,000 or more, depending on the lawyer and scope of work.

Make sure to discuss costs and payment structures with your lawyer before proceeding to understand how much the services will cost.

Top Questions to Ask an Insurance Lawyer

Before hiring an insurance lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they are the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What experience do you have with insurance law?
Ensure the lawyer has specific experience handling cases involving your type of insurance, whether it’s auto, health, home, or business-related.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer works on contingency, hourly rates, or flat fees, and ask for an estimate of the total cost of your case.
  3. What is your success rate with insurance disputes?
Ask about the lawyer’s track record in winning or settling cases similar to yours.
  4. What are my chances of success?
A good lawyer will provide an honest assessment of your case’s strengths and weaknesses and outline the possible outcomes.
  5. How long will the process take?
Get an estimate of how long it will take to resolve your claim or dispute, as some cases can extend over months or even years.
  6. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle some aspects of your case. Make sure you know who will be managing your case.

How to Check the Credibility of an Insurance Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a reputable insurance lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their state bar license: Check with your state bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Review their experience in insurance law: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in insurance law and have experience with cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Search for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s expertise and professionalism.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have dealt with similar insurance issues.
  • Check for industry memberships: Membership in organizations like the American Bar Association’s Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section (TIPS) can indicate the lawyer’s focus on insurance law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an insurance lawyer, come prepared with the following documents and information:

  • A copy of your insurance policy: Bring the policy related to your claim or dispute so the lawyer can review the coverage details.
  • Any correspondence with the insurance company: Provide copies of letters, emails, or other communications between you and your insurer regarding the claim or denial.
  • Proof of claim and supporting documents: Bring any documentation you have submitted with your claim, including receipts, invoices, photos, medical records, or repair estimates.
  • List of questions: Prepare a list of questions you want to ask about your case, the legal process, and the potential outcomes.
  • Timeline of events: Be ready to provide a clear timeline of the incident that led to the claim and any steps you’ve taken with your insurance company.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can ensure that the lawyer has all the information they need to assess your case and provide the best legal advice.
