I won in court with Ray. Ray is an amazing attorney. On the first communication he spent about 25 minutes with me on,the phone, giving me enough time to express the matter and the concerns. I was perfectly satisfied with his answers and the willingness to provide care for my issue. I immediately felt a great sense of relief, and was able to relax that night, as it felt that I found someone who will guide and be by my side me through the upcoming court battle. In the following weeks Ray, again gave me an additional hour and a half of free consultation, wherein I was perfectly settled in my quest as soneone who found a knowledgeable and caring attorney. Ray forgave me some payments, my final expenses were actually lower than initially we agreed. It was clear he was not a greedy person, as unfortunately is oftentimes the care with other attorneys. I went through a few attourneys before finding Ray. As we worked on the hearings preparations , Ray welcomed my information and various arguments that I desired be expressed and addressed in the courtroom. I was able to submit a packet of various notes to Ray, which he clearly read and took into account, provided feedback on, discussed and modified for the best of advantages in the courtroom. Ray trully worked with me, and the result was amazing we won in court! I recommend Ray, he is a good person, a great attorney, and he got me through tough times with the ultimate outcome - a victory in court. Thank you, dear Ray, for being there for me!

I had a criminal and civil cases for a car accident because I was charged with driving with a suspended license and I rear-ended the other car. I wanted to avoid jail time, and Attorney In-Chul Sohn negotiated a deal on the first court date (Class B) for just a small fine. I was very happy. He also took care of the threat of a lawsuit from the other driver. Actually, I received a traffic ticket, too, for that accident, and Attorney Sohn arranged for a small fine. So, he took care of 2 criminal charges and 1 civil case with very little I paid in fine. I was extremely happy with the way Attorney Sohn took care of all the problems.

Mr Fernandez is a great attorney! He was very well prepared, and eloquent in his work with us. He knew the field, as well as the courtroom and legal culture related to the case. He made it his business to know the client and his needs, and always found the most intelligent way to approach the client as well as the case. He did not make value judgments, but instead strived to do the best by the client under the law. Mr Fernandez is a down-to-earth person, a terrific attorney, and a good friend in any situation. I recommend Mr Fernandez without reservation. He will take care of you and your legal needs.

I hired Megan Zarling to help me with a few family law issues--including an order of protection--in Davidson County (Nashville), and she was outstanding. First and foremost, Megan was committed and dedicated to my legal cases and was in constant communication with me about them. She responded to my emails and phone calls right away, and always updated me on the status of my cases. Second, Megan is a true "go-getter;" she is a zealous advocate and a discerning evaluator of the law and facts presented before her. She took the time to examine my legal issues and after careful evaluation, explained to me my options and the various strategies we could employ. During court hearings, Megan was well-versed in the facts and the laws of my case and zealously spoke and argued on my behalf before various judges with much success. I also appreciated the fact that she has appeared before many judges in the various Davidson County courts including the Chancery Court, the Circuit Court, and the General Sessions Court. After going through a lengthy and a very hard family law issue, Megan was able to get me a favorable outcome and I am pleased with my result. To end, I'm a lawyer myself, and it takes a lot for me to trust another lawyer to advocate on my behalf. Throughout my legal process, I trusted Megan and felt safe. If you're going through a family law issue like a divorce or a separation, or even an order of protection case (whether you're the Petitioner or the Respondent), I highly recommend you give Megan a call. You won't be disappointed!

John gave me direct honest advice which caused me to not need his services, thus saving money. His advice was sound and calming in the face of being falsely accused and in momentary hot water with FBI, TBI and Local authorities. I took John's and Thomas Jefferson's advice to "If angry, count 10, if very angry 100" and I've counted for a year and a half, enjoying life and not letting those with lesser intellects and values upset my pursuit of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. If things get bad, God, Thomas Jefferson and John Drummond are a winning combination.

Mr Cochran was appointed to my son's case for possession. My son had already had the case deferred in the past but failed to comply with the conditions. I asked Mr Cochran if he could reinstate the deferral, given the immaturity of my son. He was able to convince the court to give him another chance. I will always be appreciative of his fine work and the consideration of the court.

My husband and I contacted Nicole Uribe after we married to complete an adoption case. It was simple enough to get a consultation, comparable price, and she explained each step in the case. Any additional fee that came up was explained. Nicole is personable and she made sure we knew where we were in our case with time to plan ahead to attend court. Today we finalized our adoption and we could not be happier with whom we chose to champion our case. Thanks Nicole Uribe.

Molly did an excellent job defending my son after having fired a mediocre atty who was not prepared. What a relief after what we'd been through already! She got us the best outcome that was possible for our situation, was on time and prepared even though this was all spur of the moment. We will use her again if we ever do need an atty again. Thanks again Molly.

I had her court appointed at one point and she handled everything much better than I had anticipated. So year later when I had legal issue I hired her. Not only was she affordable, but she worked her tail off and was available any time I needed her. She was worth more money then the 12500 I had spent on lawyers to handle the same case and She DIDN'T DISAPPOINT ME!

My wife and I have fortunately never had to engage an attorney until our teenage son did something to change that. Not knowing where to go, we consulted various sites to obtain names of attorneys that have expertise in defending juveniles charged with criminal/delinquent conduct. That process led us to call John and we met him shortly thereafter. He immediately put us at ease with his calm demeanor. He walked us through the various steps in the legal process describing what we should expect to happen over the next several months. In addition, his fee was reasonable for the work he anticipated doing. In that initial meeting he also met privately with our son and was very clear as to what our son needed to do to make sure his future suffered as little damage as possible from this event. His advice made sense and he quickly gained the respect of our son who does not always take advice readily. From that meeting through the disposition of his case last week John kept us updated on progress as well as answered any of the (many) questions we had about the process. The results were as good as we could expect given the circumstances and John had a great deal to do with that. This whole situation has been difficult for our family but one positive outcome is that we hired the right attorney to guide us through the process. I hope to never have to hire an attorney for this type of matter again, but if I did I would not hesitate to re-engage John or recommend him to anyone who needs an attorney in the area of juvenile law.

Mrs. Cummings represented me in a criminal case and plea-bargained it to probation with no jail time. Because I had a driving offense and lived in Knox County, I wanted to get unsupervised probation rather than supervised due to my not being able to drive and not living in Blount Co. It took several attempts to get the Asst. D.A to agree to this, but she prevailed! Long afterward, I had another case due to not paying the fines and costs and she again stepped forward to handlie the matter as well and satisfactorily keep me from having to serve jail time. She's competent, diligent, and apparently can effectively negotiate with the Blount Co. D.A's Office. I couldn't have asked for any better. As an appointed attorney, she didn't have to go any extra lengths to satisfy me. But she did. I call her a "go-to" because she can get things done. If you need an attorney, you too should go-to her.

What a Juvenile Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A juvenile law lawyer specializes in legal issues involving minors, including those facing criminal charges, child welfare matters, or status offenses (like truancy or curfew violations). Juvenile law lawyers aim to protect the rights of minors and advocate for rehabilitation rather than punishment in criminal cases. They also help families navigate child custody, abuse, neglect cases, and other legal matters involving children.

If your child is facing criminal charges, or you are involved in a child welfare case, a juvenile law lawyer can help protect your child’s rights and work toward the most favorable outcome.

When Should I Hire a Juvenile Law Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a juvenile law lawyer in the following situations where minors are involved in legal matters:

  • Juvenile criminal charges: If your child is accused of a crime, such as theft, assault, or drug offenses, a juvenile lawyer can represent them in juvenile court, advocating for leniency and alternatives to detention.
  • Delinquency proceedings: A lawyer can help navigate delinquency charges, defending your child’s rights and seeking rehabilitative outcomes like counseling, probation, or diversion programs instead of incarceration.
  • Status offenses: If your child has committed a status offense, such as truancy, running away, or underage drinking, a lawyer can help you resolve these issues in juvenile court, often focusing on rehabilitation rather than punishment.
  • School disciplinary issues: If your child is facing school suspensions, expulsions, or other disciplinary actions, a lawyer can help protect their educational rights and challenge any unfair or unlawful school policies.
  • Child protective services (CPS) investigations: If your family is being investigated by CPS for alleged abuse, neglect, or dependency, a lawyer can represent you and protect your child’s rights throughout the investigation.
  • Custody disputes: A lawyer can help in cases involving child custody or guardianship disputes, ensuring the child’s best interests are prioritized and advocating for the child’s rights.
  • Emancipation: If your child seeks legal emancipation from their parents or guardians, a lawyer can assist in navigating the legal process and help the child understand their rights and responsibilities.

Hiring a lawyer early in the legal process ensures that your child’s rights are protected and that the best possible outcomes are pursued.

What Does a Juvenile Law Lawyer Do?

A juvenile law lawyer provides various services to help minors and their families navigate the legal system. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Representing minors in court: A lawyer will represent your child in juvenile court, advocating for their rights and seeking rehabilitative outcomes rather than punitive measures.
  • Filing motions and legal paperwork: The lawyer handles all necessary legal filings, including petitions, responses, and motions to dismiss charges or suppress evidence.
  • Negotiating with prosecutors: In some cases, a lawyer can negotiate plea deals or diversion programs that prevent the child from having a permanent criminal record or serving time in detention.
  • Advising on rehabilitation programs: Juvenile law lawyers often focus on alternatives to incarceration, such as counseling, community service, or probation, helping minors avoid long-term legal consequences.
  • Handling CPS and child welfare cases: If your family is involved in a CPS investigation or child welfare case, the lawyer can advocate for your child’s safety and well-being, ensuring that their rights are upheld.
  • Defending minors against school discipline: A lawyer can help challenge unfair or excessive disciplinary actions taken by schools, ensuring that your child’s educational rights are protected.
  • Advising families on legal options: A lawyer will explain the juvenile legal process to families, offering advice on the best legal strategies and what to expect during the case.

How Are Juvenile Law Lawyers Paid?

Juvenile law lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the time involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many juvenile law lawyers charge by the hour, with rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For simpler cases, such as status offenses or school disciplinary hearings, a lawyer may charge a flat fee that covers all legal services related to the case.
  • Retainer: In more complex cases, such as defending against serious criminal charges or handling a long-term CPS investigation, a lawyer may require a retainer, which is an upfront payment billed against as they work on the case.
  • Sliding scale or pro bono services: Some juvenile law lawyers offer sliding scale fees based on income or may provide pro bono (free) services for families who cannot afford to pay full legal fees, especially in cases involving child welfare or delinquency.

Discuss the lawyer’s fee structure during your consultation to understand the total cost and payment options.

How Much Does a Juvenile Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a juvenile law lawyer depends on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the time involved. General cost estimates include:

  • Juvenile criminal cases: Legal fees for defending a minor in juvenile criminal cases can range from $2,000 to $10,000 or more, depending on the severity of the charges and whether the case goes to trial.
  • Status offenses: For cases involving minor offenses such as truancy or underage drinking, legal fees typically range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • CPS or child welfare cases: Legal fees for representing families in CPS investigations or child welfare cases can range from $2,000 to $8,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case.
  • School disciplinary hearings: Legal fees for representing students in school-related issues may range from $1,000 to $3,500, depending on the legal work required.

Make sure to get a clear estimate of costs during your initial consultation to ensure you understand the full scope of fees and services.

Top Questions to Ask a Juvenile Law Lawyer

Before hiring a juvenile law lawyer, it’s important to ask key questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise to handle your child’s case effectively. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with juvenile law cases?
Make sure the lawyer has handled cases similar to yours, whether it’s juvenile delinquency, child custody, or CPS investigations.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, offers flat fees, or requires a retainer. Ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my child’s case?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of the case, including potential challenges and likely outcomes.
  4. How long will the process take?
Juvenile cases can vary in duration, so ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to last and what factors might affect the timeline.
  5. Will you personally handle my child’s case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of the case. Make sure you know who will be managing the case and representing your child in court.
  6. What rights does my child have?
Ask the lawyer to explain your child’s legal rights, including their rights during police questioning, school disciplinary actions, and court proceedings.

How to Check the Credibility of a Juvenile Law Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable juvenile law lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for juvenile law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in juvenile law and have successfully handled cases similar to yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate in juvenile cases.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on juvenile law matters.
  • Check for certifications or memberships: Look for memberships in organizations like the National Juvenile Defender Center (NJDC) or certifications in juvenile law, which can indicate a lawyer’s dedication to representing minors.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a juvenile law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Court documents: Bring any legal documents related to your child’s case, such as summons, complaints, or court orders.
  • School records: Provide any relevant school records, including disciplinary reports, attendance records, and communications from school officials.
  • CPS or investigation reports: If your case involves child welfare, bring any reports or documentation from CPS or other investigating agencies.
  • Timeline of events: Prepare a detailed timeline of events related to your child’s legal issue, including interactions with authorities or school officials.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions about the legal process, your child’s rights, and potential outcomes for the case.

Being well-prepared will help the lawyer assess your child’s situation more effectively and provide the best possible legal advice tailored to your needs.
