Nguyen is literally the best attorney I have ever worked with! She's extremely competent and aggressive. She knows the law inside out, and she is extremely detail-oriented. I had a very difficult case, but she still managed to win. I highly recommend her!

Christina played an huge role, in a life changing decision for me recently. My situation involved custody and child support issues. I've been dealing with my ex for a few years, and she was unwilling to give me joint physical custody, and even though my ex makes more money than me, she was still getting a substantial amount of money for child support from me. I searched for a decent lawyer, and low and behold I found a good one. Christina has great knowledge of the law system, she's very easy to talk with, and she is very organized. Thanks to Christina, I was awarded joint physical custody of my two daughters, and was able to obtain a peace of mind in the process. I would recommend Christina to anyone!

Christina was extremely good at orienting me regarding the overall proceedings of my case, and importantly she was able to offer the patience, support and console necessary for me to not be overwhelmed by my case. She was also extremely competent and prepared which in turn helped me organize and prepare. In Working with Christina I felt I was always in the best hands and I could not have asked for a more positive outcome of my case!

This lawyer is awesome. She never made promises, that she could not keep. She was determined to help me understand the laws that were relevant to my case. Her attention to details were great, and she administered the character to explain this to everyone. My case was a divorce case with property issues and rehabilitation requirements, she never made promises, always related things to the law. I was proud to have someone in my corner to bring me out of my emotions and into the reality of the law. Christina Nguyen was direct and patient since my mind was always all over the place. She provided support and once the trial started was prepared beyond my expectations. She had done her research, made me comfortable, and I never felt under attack under her watch. Objected all information that was not provided prior to trial and explained everything to me prior. I would refer everyone to her. At trial she was argumentative and was prepared with closing statements which are not required in these cases. Christina was respectful to my witness and courteous to the needs of everyone involved. Even after trial she was responsive to questions about the judges decision. I could not have been more impressed. The following is a statement I sent to her and I pray that she continues to conduct business in the manner. "Christina, I just wanted to thank you again for your guidance, honesty & patience throughout my my divorce process. You really made things go easier than I had anticipated and your thoughtful demeanor helped me through such a painful situation. I hope you understand how truly appreciated you are. I am so grateful to have met such a sincere and professional person."

No parent ever expects to have to obtain representation with custody disputes. More so, because all of its processes can be one big headache. However, I was blessed with the opportunity of working with Mrs Nguyen and I have to tell you she is the best!. I had been through so much with my case, not seeing my son within a 6 month time frame was to much for my heart to bare. After our first consultation, I felt so relieved knowing that I had found a person so passionate about my case as well as her job and clients. It was a good feeling to know that I now had an attorney that was diligent with her work, and affable with her clients. I knew at that point I had no worries... During our first court appearance Mrs Nguyen asked for the judge to issue a temporary order providing me with access to my son, which was granted. I couldn't believe with all the attempts that I made on my own it would have been possible. I praise her for making this her first step to bringing relieve and satisfaction to her new client :). For the duration of my case, Mrs Nguyen stayed in communication with me, She responded to my many inquires whether it was by phone or email, most times both with in reasonable and acceptable time periods. If she was away from the office, she advised in advance. She was always prompt and well prepared for scheduled court hearings, A+. Even though my case is now closed, I will always consider Mrs Nguyen as my attorney. I truly appreciate all of her hard work, like I stated before she is the best, just Awesome! I definitely recommend her services. Should I ever need representation with in her practice in the future, Mrs Nguyen would be the first person I call.

I had a horrible situation with a disbarred attorney who had represented me in some cases that had to be nonsuited. The attorney didn't tell me he'd been disbarred, he kept practicing. So, when I had the cases nonsuited by a new attorney, we were able to represent to the court that we had settled matters with all of our experts and consultants. Well that disbarred attorney lied to me about firing some medical experts, who later sued me and have tried to force me at great cost to violate a federal protective order through manipulating the arbitration process. A friend of mine knew of Eric and referred me. Eric has defended me, and my special needs daughter's trust, against this attack. Eric represented us in the Arbitration dispute and additional filings. It's been a stressful experience but during it all, Eric has been fair, professional, communicative, hard working, diligent, he was outstanding in arbitration - finding that these so called experts have lost their medical licenses in pretty much every state - and doing his best to give us fair and appropriate legal advice and representation. I have been so impressed with him, and with Offit Kurman. Eric is one of the best attorneys I've ever had to work with, and I've had to work with enough to tell anyone reading this post that he's one of the good guys and he's very good at what he does. I highly, highly recommend Eric Pelletier and the firm Offit Kurman. It's nice to finally be represented by an attorney with a sense of right and wrong who genuinely wants to defend someone who is a victim. I was very blessed to be referred to him.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Bethesda, Maryland?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
