Rebecca Lippman helped me through a divorce and custody dispute when I was going through a period of emotional and financial distress. Her knowledge of the law made it possible for me to achieve an excellent outcome, both for me and equally important for my then four-year-old child. Her ability to interact effectively with my ex's lawyer saved me time, money and much aggravation. Besides her highly professional lawyering skills, she is a truly motivating force who helped me get on with my life at a time when I was in need of advice in a number of areas. She is experienced, encouraging and focused. I recommend her 100% to everyone seeking to move forward after divorce on a strong and confident footing.

I was dreading the divorce process for a long time after speaking to several contentious attorney's. Although I had a difficult marriage, I had no interest in punishing my ex or engaging in a protracted battle. Rebecca's approach to the process was an absolute revelation to me. She spent a considerable amount of time validating my concerns and walking me through the particulars of this complicated process. I felt understood, well supported and hopeful, due to Rebecca's expertise and optimism. She was knowledgeable, clear and accessible throughout the process and ultimately crafted a reasonable settlement that was fair to both parties. I cannot recommend Rebecca highly enough.

Rebecca Lippman was my lawyer for my recent divorce and I am extremely happy with the services she provided. She approached every problem with intelligence, resourcefulness, and compassion. Rebecca was willing to fight for what was right. She provided support at every step of the way. I recommend her highly.

My spouse had cheated on me and Ms Lippman represented me in collaborative divorce proceedings. When she found out my spouse had cheated, she immediately helped me use that as leverage to gain additional custody while placing even more of a financial burden on my spouse and not me. If you have a cheating spouse, she's going to make him/her pay.

uliana was a fantastic business/legal resource when I needed advice on a very tight time frame. She had a great combination of thoroughness and ability to provide the broader business context and focus on the most important areas. I felt very confident making an important decision with Juliana's counsel and highly recommend her.

I would highly recommend Juliana for anyone who is seeking business or software related help. She is well connected as well as super passionate about modern business. There are tons of lawyers out there who just push paper, but she really takes the time to become familiar with the industry that she serves.

Unfortunately my Mother passed away without having a Will or any of her Estate affairs in order. Prior to my mothers passing I had never handled an Estate before. I contacted a few attorneys but didn't feel they were the right fit for all of the complications pertaining to the Estate. Some attorney's weren't even willing to take it on. A neighbor of mine (who is an attorney) suggested that I contact Mr. Andre McDonald to handle my Mothers Estate. After our initial phone consultation, I knew immediately that he was the the right fit for all that needed to be accomplished. It was around the holidays. Mr. McDonald went above and beyond the typical duties that involve getting an Estate opened. He stayed involved and was on top of every aspect regarding the Estate throughout the entire process. He followed through with getting the Estate closed in a timely fashion. Mr. McDonald was very professional and knew exactly what to do and how to handle the Estate. He was always informative and reliable. Mr. McDonald always personally returned my phone calls and my emails in a timely manner. His staff was very pleasant and a joy to work with during a very hard time in my life. He kept me up to date on anything that needed to be done. He took the time to answer any questions or concerns that I had. Dealing with the loss of a loved one is a challenge within itself but Mr. McDonald put my mind at ease. I felt comfortable and confident knowing that he was the attorney handling my Mothers Estate during a very hard and difficult ordeal. I highly recommend Mr. Andre McDonald for any and all of your Estate needs.

Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Bethesda, Maryland?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
