We engaged Attorney Sullivan to settle and represent the family trust after the death of both parents. She is very well respected in the Cambridge community and came to us on recommendation. I was impressed with her knowledge and direction overall. There had been legal conflict looming with one of the beneficiaries, but when she came on, she directed the ship like a master to avoid the collision. She handles the toughest situations and people with ease. She makes you feel at ease. Because of her influence and guidance it all went very smoothly. I don’t think it would have with another lawyer. She saved us big money. She’s funny, intelligent and kind. She’s there for you—reliable. Very responsive. Highly recommended. Kate

We are a small business and have worked with Attornet Sullivan more than once. She successfully helped us get grandfathered commercial parking on our lot, and a variance to build. Everyone said it couldn’t be done on congested Mass Ave. Her research homework and a crystal clear advocacy resulted in the board voting 5-0 for us. I would say us 5 guys love and admire her a lot. She’s warm, strong, and uplifting. She’ll go the extra mile. She’s super smart and dedicated to her clients. She’s for winners. Ari

My brother in law(A professor and Phd in Boston) had used Angela in the past for some legal work, so when he became gravely ill(very rapidly), he called her to his deathbed as his power of attorney. She went above and beyond her duties and rushed to the hospital the night of his passing in order to ensure my children received the estate he wished them to share. This would not have occurred had she not have acted quickly, efficiently and professionally. In my heart, I do not believe that any other lawyer would have rushed to the hospital to his bedside to ensure that my family was taken care of. After his passing, we retained Angela for his estate and to take care all legal matters pertaining to his death. She is an exceptional person with an amazing mind. She is kind and truly cares for her clients as family. She continues to stay in contact with us and helps us with anything she is able to as she is so positive and reliable. I would trust Angela with any family legal issue and would recommend her with great pride.

I retained the services of Angela Sullivan on a complex estate matter involving several different parties and I deeply appreciated her contributions. If there was one quality I appreciated most in her it was her methodical, thorough style of weighing and balancing options, putting in the time to do the reading and interpretation of sometimes obscure case law to give well-informed recommendations that ultimately guided us to a positive outcome. The contrast between her very methodical and deliberate style and the at times "shoot-from-the-hip" disposition of previously retained counsel could not have stood out in sharper relief. She was always on the ball with timely, well-though-out advice and always felt personally engaged in the case. I would certainly recommend her services and engage her in the future.

I was referred to Ray Watson having left a Multinational Technical company and joined a technology start up company with 13 angel investors. Despite holding multiple degrees and an MBA, we had reluctance and difficulties being a startup without history. Roy was magnificent for being aware of the options, how to handle the difficult situation and for guiding us round the obstacles caused by inflexibility of the "standard" immigration bureaucracy. His creativity and willingness to create options is what stands him aside from other classical lawyers and always friendly, optimistic (and with reason) he is a true gem to anyone wanting Immigration. I would sign him in a heart beat should I ever need a visa or immigration documents again. Pity we lost Katelyn. Dr David G, BSc, MSc, PhD, MBA.

I have an H1B issues with a strange employment loss. I spoke with few Lawyers and everyone scared me about the situation instead of telling me the options and what's the best possible option I can do at this time. My friend referred Mr Roy Watson. I called his office and he answered the call right away. He asked me the every single detail of my situation and provided me the best possible options to deal with. This gave a real boost and helped me understand the whole situation. His knowledge on immigration related issues is peaks. I recommend him 100%

Her first expression was outstanding. She listened us very attentively as we were not good at explanation in English. She understood our topics and start very simple way to reply. She was following our expression or body language as well, so was able to catch up our conversation, always she let us talk frequently, she looked all our papers and shared her opinion, finally she suggest me if I want I can move forward myself with this issue instead of spending thousands dollars by paying a lawyer, this part made me surprised, and proved her she is very honest. According to her professionalism I would like to rate her five star.

Eric is an attorney with whom I am comfortable, who also has the knowledge and skills necessary to represent a client well and can differentiate himself from other lawyers because he is smart, organized, focused, and passionate about the work that he does. Eric approached my situation in a very thoughtful, organized, and facts based manner. His goal has been to help me solve a work problem in an efficient and professional manner. Eric was very clear on the strength of my case, and the cost to litigate along with the amount of time necessary. Eric has significant relevant experience in employment law and has won trials in front of a jury with Fortune 100 companies. He has also shared the percentage of cases that may settle before litigation, and gave me a thorough education to make the best decisions. My case has not completed, but I have full confidence in my decision to hire Eric.

Mr. Eric LeBlanc has a extensive knowledge of the Business guidelines and SOP’s, which enabled him to determine which employment violations occurred. My case fell under Employment and Labor practices, within Eric's law firm. Eric has strong Communication abilities that get the point across, by explaining legal terminology, legal processes, and court procedures. Eric was very responsive to my concerns; and did a great job keeping me informed, more importantly meeting all required legal deadlines. Eric ‘s quality of service, was impeccable in my opinion , he got a reasonable settlement in my case, more importantly he aided me in getting my life back on track; spiritually, financially, and mentally. Eric strategically cross-examined the defendant in preparation for court. Eric did a spectacular job pin pointing the discrepancies in the defendant’s deposition. I would highly recommend Mr. Eric LeBlanc if they have commercial, construction & development, employment & labor legal issues.

Eric helped me and continues to help me in ongoing legal issues that have popped up. When I need to speak to him he is available to try an answer any questions I may have and does so in plain English. When we ended up going to trial in one case he was a great litigator and won the case for me. I would highly recommend him to anyone who may have legal questions or issues that they need help with.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Cambridge, Massachusetts?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
