I was impressed by the quickness and rapidity at which Ian Keefe (attorney) and Altman and Altman was able to respond to our urgent request for representation. They jumped on the issue, provided a clear plan of action, and then began following through on that plan in a matter of hours, clearly communicating what we could expect. Ian demonstrated significant depth for the issue and showed experience in the matter, leading to the best outcome.

Attorney Ian Keefe is quite simply the best lawyer available in the Boston area for driver's license issues, traffic court, and clerk magistrate hearings. Ian was able to get my case dismissed in one appearance in just minutes. Just as important, he instilled confidence and peace of mind leading up to hearing. I interviewed about 20 lawyers for my case it was clear that no one was better qualified or could take better care of me than Ian. I give Ian my highest recommendation.

Ian deserves more than the five stars. I hired him to help me with a restraining order. He wrote down every detail of my story and cared about every detail. He answered calls quickly and reassured the extreme anxiety I had. It was his attention to detail and real empathy that won my second attempt at an RO. He has since followed through with the state to make sure I am treated fairly in the criminal case against my abuser. He didn't have to do that. Excellent lawyer and such a nice person. You will not be sorry!

I have nothing but positive things to say about this firm. I have never needed a lawyer before however, something came up very quickly that required me to seek legal counsel in a very short amount of time. Ian, called me with in a few hours of contacting Altman & Altman and was at the courthouse with me two days after. Ian was prompt and ready to hit the floor running. My case was settled with the up most satisfaction and I couldn’t of have asked for anyone else. I tend to be a tough critic, with that said… I am pleased to have worked with Ian and his firm… I am extremely satisfied. Not one question went unanswered and Ian did more than go above and beyond with my case. Highly recommend and I appreciate all that Ian and his firm has done for me.

I was referred to Ray Watson having left a Multinational Technical company and joined a technology start up company with 13 angel investors. Despite holding multiple degrees and an MBA, we had reluctance and difficulties being a startup without history. Roy was magnificent for being aware of the options, how to handle the difficult situation and for guiding us round the obstacles caused by inflexibility of the "standard" immigration bureaucracy. His creativity and willingness to create options is what stands him aside from other classical lawyers and always friendly, optimistic (and with reason) he is a true gem to anyone wanting Immigration. I would sign him in a heart beat should I ever need a visa or immigration documents again. Pity we lost Katelyn. Dr David G, BSc, MSc, PhD, MBA.

I spoke with few Lawyers and everyone scared me about the situation instead of telling me the options and what's the best possible option I can do at this time. My friend referred Mr Roy Watson. I called his office and he answered the call right away. He asked me the every single detail of my situation and provided me the best possible options to deal with. Her first expression was outstanding. She listened us very attentively as we were not good at explanation in English. She understood our topics and start very simple way to reply. She was following our expression or body language as well, so was able to catch up our conversation, always she let us talk frequently, she looked all our papers and shared her opinion, finally she suggest me if I want I can move forward myself with this issue instead of spending thousands dollars by paying a lawyer, this part made me surprised, and proved her she is very honest. According to her professionalism I would like to rate her five star.

Eric is an attorney with whom I am comfortable, who also has the knowledge and skills necessary to represent a client well and can differentiate himself from other lawyers because he is smart, organized, focused, and passionate about the work that he does. Eric approached my situation in a very thoughtful, organized, and facts based manner. His goal has been to help me solve a work problem in an efficient and professional manner. Eric was very clear on the strength of my case, and the cost to litigate along with the amount of time necessary. Eric has significant relevant experience in employment law and has won trials in front of a jury with Fortune 100 companies. He has also shared the percentage of cases that may settle before litigation, and gave me a thorough education to make the best decisions. My case has not completed, but I have full confidence in my decision to hire Eric.

Mr. Eric LeBlanc has a extensive knowledge of the Business guidelines and SOP’s, which enabled him to determine which employment violations occurred. My case fell under Employment and Labor practices, within Eric's law firm. Eric has strong Communication abilities that get the point across, by explaining legal terminology, legal processes, and court procedures. Eric was very responsive to my concerns; and did a great job keeping me informed, more importantly meeting all required legal deadlines. Eric ‘s quality of service, was impeccable in my opinion , he got a reasonable settlement in my case, more importantly he aided me in getting my life back on track; spiritually, financially, and mentally. Eric strategically cross-examined the defendant in preparation for court. Eric did a spectacular job pin pointing the discrepancies in the defendant’s deposition. I would highly recommend Mr. Eric LeBlanc if they have commercial, construction & development, employment & labor legal issues.

Eric helped me and continues to help me in ongoing legal issues that have popped up. When I need to speak to him he is available to try an answer any questions I may have and does so in plain English. When we ended up going to trial in one case he was a great litigator and won the case for me. I would highly recommend him to anyone who may have legal questions or issues that they need help with.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Cambridge, Massachusetts?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
