I recently had the privilege of engaging with Attorney Jeff Feuer for a landlord-tenant dispute and am compelled to commend his exceptional service. Having spent numerous years as a CPA in the consulting industry, I am familiar with the consulting realm. Hence, when I say Jeff's professionalism and expertise truly impressed me, it's from a standpoint of understanding high standards of service. In August 2023, I found myself amidst a challenging situation. I had unknowingly entered a sub-lease agreement with an real estate sales agent lacking legal authority. Consequently, I faced eviction within a week. My attempts to secure a refund from this agent were met with resistance, followed by the sales agent's baseless and defamatory emails sent to both my educational institution and employer, just trying to prevent me from bringing him to the court. It was in these trying circumstances that I reached out to Attorney Jeff Feuer. Jeff's methodical approach stood out immediately. He attentively absorbed all facets of my case and equipped me with a wealth of legal knowledge that even my own research hadn't unveiled. With his guidance, I penned a more legally sound demand letter. Jeff's swift intervention with a Cease and Desist Letter played a pivotal role in ensuring that the sales agent refrained from involving any third parties henceforth. Throughout the process, Jeff’s responses were prompt, always within 24 hours, ensuring I felt supported at every juncture. His sage advice enabled me to resolve the matter without resorting to court proceedings. The leasing agent eventually acceded to my refund demands, and the matter was amicably settled. I'd like to add that Jeff's fees were incredibly reasonable, especially considering the caliber of service rendered. Attorney Jeff Feuer's assistance was invaluable. I wouldn't hesitate to seek his expertise in the future, should the need arise.

Amazing attorney and great person. Mr.House not only believed in me, he provided me the best defense. The court officers even told me when I was in the back that this “this is the guy you want. Trust me.” When I asked them about him. And they were right. Jameson swiftly got my case dismissed due to exculpatory evidence on my cell phone. I would give 6 stars if I could.

Attorney Shea was appointed to my case by the court over 20 years ago and he represented me as if he were being paid thousands of dollars. We recently made contact with each other and it felt like old friends catching up.

I was impressed by the quickness and rapidity at which Ian Keefe (attorney) and Altman and Altman was able to respond to our urgent request for representation. They jumped on the issue, provided a clear plan of action, and then began following through on that plan in a matter of hours, clearly communicating what we could expect. Ian demonstrated significant depth for the issue and showed experience in the matter, leading to the best outcome.

Attorney Ian Keefe is quite simply the best lawyer available in the Boston area for driver's license issues, traffic court, and clerk magistrate hearings. Ian was able to get my case dismissed in one appearance in just minutes. Just as important, he instilled confidence and peace of mind leading up to hearing. I interviewed about 20 lawyers for my case it was clear that no one was better qualified or could take better care of me than Ian. I give Ian my highest recommendation.

Ian deserves more than the five stars. I hired him to help me with a restraining order. He wrote down every detail of my story and cared about every detail. He answered calls quickly and reassured the extreme anxiety I had. It was his attention to detail and real empathy that won my second attempt at an RO. He has since followed through with the state to make sure I am treated fairly in the criminal case against my abuser. He didn't have to do that. Excellent lawyer and such a nice person. You will not be sorry!

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Cambridge, Massachusetts?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
