Mr. Shaw represented me in a completely unfair murder case and overturned the conviction. He is totally different from most lawyers. He is one in a million! What sets him apart is his authenticity and thoughtfulness. He is as real as they come. What you see is what you get. He wears his being on his sleeve. He will never mislead you for his benefit. He has a great concern for his clients which is the catalyst for his strong work ethic. I would definitely recommend Mr. Shaw to anyone who is trying to win their case. He works hard, is honest, transparent, knowledgeable, and responsive. He has a methodical approach about him that makes you feel safe and secure about his informed decisions. He is the best in the business!

Many qualities set Mr. Shaw apart. He has incredible attention to detail, time management, great communication, he is humble, and easy to approach. Mr. Shaw likes to speak with his clients and family members himself. We do not need to call his office, we call his personal cellphone and email him, we like that we feel this connection with the attorney. He is so patient, we would ask the same question over and over again and he would not be bothered to repeat and help us understand the process. Mr. Shaw is not business as usual like most attorneys. He feels as part of our family. He doesn't push us away, he is not rushed to get off the phone when we are constantly calling him. He worries about our family's emotional well being. He never hides the negative or the positive, but he explains everything honestly so there is no confusion or misunderstanding. I would recommend Mr. Shaw 100%.

Robert Shaw represented me in a very serious murder case where I was wrongfully convicted and won. I was sentenced to life in prison. He was very strategic and efficient. He put 110% into every aspect of my case. He was open minded to my thoughts and broke down each issues effortlessly. The first word that comes to mind when I think of him is integrity. His heart is in his work. It's not just a job or career. He truly cares about his client and fights for them to get justice.

I highly and whole heartily recommend Robert Shaw Jr. as an attorney. Our experience with him was positive from the first moment we consulted him. He was attentive, thorough and helpful during times that were extremely difficult for me and my family. He is one of the most knowledgeable, skilled, hardworking and compassionate people I have ever met. From the first time we met Robert Shaw, Jr. we knew he was different from any other attorney. His interest in the case and how much he already knew by the first time we met was impressive. Our trust and respect over the time that he had the case only grew stronger and stronger. He would look you in the eyes and tell you the truth, always returned our phone calls quickly and effectively, and kept us informed. He always got a call back within a few hours when we called him. Always prepared in court and in filing motions and briefs. Robert handled an appeal after a conviction of first degree murder and a sentenced to life in prison without parole at the age of 21. I have worked with many lawyers since I work in law enforcement and I have never worked with an attorney like Robert Shaw, Jr. This man was born to be a defense attorney. He stands so proud on the side of justice and you feel that you are definitely not alone against the system when injustice knocks at your door. Fortunately, Robert was able to get the conviction overturned and the entire case dismissed. However even if things had not gone the way we hoped we would have felt good in the sense that we knew we got the best possible defense attorney to stand by us to undo the injustice that sometimes takes place in the criminal justice system. My family and I will forever be in debt with Robert Shaw, Jr. God bless him and take care of him. Men like him are not born every day.

Mr. Shaw has been the best thing that happened in my life and for my family. He has been our voice in the courtroom. Mr. Shaw has given us hope when we felt hopeless. Mr. Shaw is the Truth. He has treated us as family. I love Mr. Shaw. He fought and didn't hold back anything, he went to war in that courtroom. I feel so safe with him. I can't believe I met a lawyer like him. I am forever so thankful. Everything he said he was going to do he did, and then more. I only dreamed to find an attorney like him. And my dream came true. God sent Mr. Shaw to help us and he did just that. He is the best!

I applied for an H1-B and Sara made the whole process incredibly smooth and easy. Comparing my application to that of my friends, I feel so lucky to have chosen Sara! She knows exactly what to do at every step of the application, she responds quickly to emails and she's always happy to give advice. Couldn't recommend her more!

Sara offered all the aspects I needed in an immigration lawyer: absolute responsiveness, professionalism, expertise, excellent communication, dedication & success. She worked with me under a very tight timeframe and ensured I understood the process. I felt supported and guided by her & had found someone I could trust in this process. I would unreservedly recommend Sara.

I was referred to Ray Watson having left a Multinational Technical company and joined a technology start up company with 13 angel investors. Despite holding multiple degrees and an MBA, we had reluctance and difficulties being a startup without history. Roy was magnificent for being aware of the options, how to handle the difficult situation and for guiding us round the obstacles caused by inflexibility of the "standard" immigration bureaucracy. His creativity and willingness to create options is what stands him aside from other classical lawyers and always friendly, optimistic (and with reason) he is a true gem to anyone wanting Immigration. I would sign him in a heart beat should I ever need a visa or immigration documents again. Pity we lost Katelyn. Dr David G, BSc, MSc, PhD, MBA.

I have an H1B issues with a strange employment loss. I spoke with few Lawyers and everyone scared me about the situation instead of telling me the options and what's the best possible option I can do at this time. My friend referred Mr Roy Watson. I called his office and he answered the call right away. He asked me the every single detail of my situation and provided me the best possible options to deal with. This gave a real boost and helped me understand the whole situation. His knowledge on immigration related issues is peaks. I recommend him 100%

Her first expression was outstanding. She listened us very attentively as we were not good at explanation in English. She understood our topics and start very simple way to reply. She was following our expression or body language as well, so was able to catch up our conversation, always she let us talk frequently, she looked all our papers and shared her opinion, finally she suggest me if I want I can move forward myself with this issue instead of spending thousands dollars by paying a lawyer, this part made me surprised, and proved her she is very honest. According to her professionalism I would like to rate her five star.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Cambridge, Massachusetts?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
