David was hired to navigate a very messy Family Trust situation. He was professional, resourceful and successful. His response time is above and beyond. He is always available to you unlike some I have known in my experience. More importantly he was compassionate with the situation and folks involved. I applaud his professionalism and kindness. His manner in which he conducts business made a very difficult and stressful situation bearable. Thank you, David Rubin.

I've had the pleasure to work with Jim over the past year in a custody dispute, that felt like it would never end. Jim is an amazing lawyer and fought for everything I asked for. Dad is no longer involved and we only had to appear in family court once. Jim would make sure his cell phone was on and near during some of the most difficult exchanges of the children, he gave me some great advice and helped me through some difficult times. I am forever grateful to have had him in my corner and highly recommend him to anyone that wants to win. Thank You Jim!!

Where do I begin... I was so ready to give up on everything and just hand my son over to my ex-which I know/knew was the stupidest thing I could have ever done in my life. I was so exhausted by the lies, the taunting, the horrible comments etc. constantly being spewed at me by my ex. It was as if, I was fighting this unbeatable monster in and outside of court, I was ready to give up, even with me being a fighter-and never giving up easily anything!!! But, at that time, I was mentally drained. My family and friends kept saying, "hire a lawyer!" initially- I didn't want to, but I knew if I didn't- I could lose my son to my ex with all the lies he constantly told. So, I went on Google, and googled-child support lawyer....and James Lukowiak aka Jim "popped up"- like neon green lights. I decided to reach out to him for a consultation. While at the consultation it was nothing, but good vibes. Jim listened to every single detail during the consultation, and I finally felt like someone understood my dilemma...someone understood the monster I was facing and was willing to stick it out with me and help me through the most difficult situation in my life. Jim was by my side EVERY STEP OF THE WAY for the last 2 years, and I am so, so, so grateful for him and Meg ;-). Two years ago- I sat in the consultation with Jim and said, "I want full custody of my son and I want my ex to be exposed for the person he really is". Two weeks ago, my ex finally decided to sign his rights over to me giving me full custody and physical custody of our son. Jim is a great listener and he knows THIS game. I am immensely grateful for running into this guy, and watching how he works, the dedication he has for his clients is fantastic. I must say, I learned a smidge of the game while working with him. Jim helped me see the light at the end of the tunnel, and for that-I am thankful. THANK YOU JIM!!!!!!

James is a very nice lawyer. He spent hours with me during the initial free consultation. I met with many lawyers in this area and none of them would spend much time with you during the initial free consultation. Actually, one lawyer tried to charge me for an extra 10 minutes after the first half hour free consultation. He knows the many details of your case because he is a very good listener. He has much experience in family law and thinks outside of the box. He pointed out several good arguments and strategies for my case that I did not think of, although I spent hours thinking every day. Most lawyers will ask me what I want them to say in court, but James is not one of them. He finds valid and strong arguments for my case. Without his expertise, I could have ended up signing an unfair agreement with my unreasonable ex and opposing counsel. If unfortunately, I have to go to court again, although I hope I don’t have to, I definitely want to keep this fighter on my side.

Initially I didn't expect this level of excellent service from Glenn. We had a payments issues from a vendor which was handled legally by Glenn and he made a smooth settlement. We were always kept informed in time by Glenn about the progress on the above legal dispute and he never wait for us to tell him to follow up with the other party. He proactively do it on his own which i see is more needed for any client. I recommend Glenn to everyone because of his excellent service.

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Framingham, Massachusetts?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
