We have worked with Joe Perl for several years and highly recommend him! Our experience is that he’s very knowledgeable, has great communication skills, is a pleasure to work with, and above all- he gets RESULTS! He’s not only easy to work with but he's creative, thinks outside the box, and is reliable to get the desired outcome from any given action in a reasonable amount of time and effort. You can’t go wrong with Mr. Perl- we HIGHLY recommend this attorney.

Joseph did a great job on our case. A contractor has installed an insufficient beam in our house prior to us buying it. We didn't go to court, but the contractor settled for 90% of the cost.

We hired Mr. Perl following a Google search of attorneys in the geographic area of our customer that owed us money. We hired him to try to recover money from a company that had owed us money for two years. He recovered the reduced amount that we had agreed to and took an acceptable fee from the recovered funds

I had two amazing interactions with Joseph Perl, one over the phone and the other in person. On my birthday Dec 5th 2016 I was sued by my college for 15,000. I had never been sued in my life. My only reference was what I'd seen on television. I read the court document to also discover my mom was being sued . My mom co-signed the loan for me. My mom and I had 20 days to respond or an automatic judgement of 15,000 would be granted to the college. I found Joseph Perl through a google search, and thank God I did! When I called Joe, my hands were trembling with fear. I was scared over the potential outcome of my mother and I having our wages garnished. To my surprise when I called the office of Joseph Perl, Joe picked up the phone himself, no secretary . Immediately there's an automatic, direct connection with Joe. He asked me to explain my situation, I did. Joe gave me immediate advice/feedback regarding my case and how I could proceed. I didn't have to give my credit card info, hire him, zero commitment. He simply laid out all the facts and allowed me to choose what was right for me and in my own time. 3 minutes into the conversation and my hands were no longer trembling with fear. Joe put my fears at ease by laying out all possible scenarios and outcomes. I hung up the phone feeling hopeful and confident about the end result of my case. I did decide to work with Joe. My second experience with Joe, in person was extraordinarily positive. When I met with him at his office, he was prepared. Joe greeted me, then went to work immediately. I felt like Joe put himself in the clients perspective and was conscious that time was money; and saving money was crucial! I felt in my heart, he was there to truly help, and help the best way he knew how, with complete efficiency. At one point in the meeting Joe asked me personal detailed info about the case, that I should've knew but didn't. Joe was able to figure it out without my help because he's smart, resourceful, and overall just a really, really, good man, with a really, really, good heart. My case was settled with the best possible scenario. My mother and I are very happy! The name Joseph in Hebrew means 'he will add' and Joseph Perl has. Joseph Perl has added a sense of renewed self-esteem, worth, and resolve in my life. Please, let him do the same for you. Joseph Perl makes it a almost a breeze to get sued. Thank you Joe.

Joe handled a very difficult loan company who was trying to sue us for non-payment of outlandish interest fees. He settled our case in a matter of a couple of months and charged us a reasonable fee for his outstanding services. I would highly recommend him.

I was very fortunate to have found Linda who was highly recommended to me by a friend of a family member. Linda is a true professional and always made time for me. She guided me along throughout the whole divorce process and her expertise was second to none. She was very detailed, organized, and was responsive to all my inquiries. She always provided me with sound legal advice and made me feel comfortable throughout a process that is already stressful. I couldn’t recommended a better lawyer in Boston and would recommend Linda to anyone.

When I first called Linda and spoke to her I was so relieved. Filing for divorce was not an easy step, but our first conversation was relaxed and informative. Throughout the process, Linda and her staff made the emotionally charged time easy for me to maneuver. And Linda's legal advice was spot on. I cannot recommend Linda and her staff enough.

Attorney LaFountain combines a very human touch with a client who has been injured in an accident with a very staunch approach with the insurance companies that he has to deal with on his client's behalf. You always know that there is a person there helping you and will communicate with you to keep you up to date. The result is a satisfactory outcome and a good feeling about having chosen Attorney LaFountain to be your representative. What more can you ask for?

During one of the worst periods of my life (my mother died and I found myself being sued by my estranged siblings in land court) I was in desperate need of real, honest and meaningful expert legal help. I got just that and so much more with attorney Nicholas J. LaFountain of LaFountain & Wollman, PC. Nick is not only an outstanding attorney who tirelessly worked to get me the best possible outcome but also an incredibly honorable human being who took my case when others likely wouldn’t have. The fact is I was a broke emotional wreck at the start of this ordeal and the case was a contentious ugly battle against highly credentialed attorneys with impressive Boston addresses and clients with seemingly unlimited resources. Nick was of course undaunted by this and NEVER wavered in his commitment to seek justice on my behalf. He provided me with superb legal representation and consistently went above and beyond what good attorneys do! He even drove me to court once when I was too nervous to get there myself. Nick was extremely responsive and always prompt in returning my calls and emails and answering my questions. He was wonderfully patient with me and explained my options every step of the way. Throughout my entire legal journey I always knew that Nick had my best interest at heart. Nick is also a really smart attorney with the innate ability to think quickly on his feet. He displayed this talent over and over again when dealing with opposing council and most notably by skillfully cross examining witnesses at trial. Finally and most importantly, Nick is highly EFFECTIVE! He secured an extremely favorable judgment for me under very difficult circumstances and I owe him and his team a great big thank you for that. I whole-heartedly and without reservation would and have recommended Nick LaFountain and LaFountain & Wollman, PC to anyone in need of expert legal help. Nick is an amazing attorney and I feel truly blessed to have had him in my legal corner.

It is such a pleasure to have Debbie as our league guardianship attorney! Her communication is always clear and in time in the whole process. She totally understand our concern of enrolling the minor to school ASAP and prepared all the documents even before the minor arrives, which sped up the court process. She also went extra mile and worked with the school registration to help the minor enrolled. I would recommend Debbie without any hesitation!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Watertown, Massachusetts?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
