Matthew was extremely helpful through the divorce process. He was able to help my now ex spouse and i come to agreements very quickly. Multiple times throughout the process i more or less broke down, however Attorney McGoldrick was willing to help with the emotional aspect as well. He was not out to get us through as fast as possible, or to drag his feet. He was a total service and i would highly recommend. I hope to never need his services again, but if i do, he will be the first person i call.

Dan is a great family law attorney. Why? he's calm. Keeps it simple. Doesn't chase wild geese, and politely stops you if you want a wild goose chase. He's an excellent writer. I get impatient sometimes when he is re-writing things, but the end result is SO worth it. Wonderful guy, really cares. Will absolutely tell you to "dial it down" when these family law issues get you heated. Nicely.

Pandora was a wealth of knowledge about the law and how it applied to our issue. She was able to cut our fine in half and save us thousands of dollars over the future years in other costs. I would hire her again without hesitation.

I have been fortunate to work closely with Kelly for several years now. I liked her as soon as I met her. She is a very hard working attorney, and more importantly (and sometimes rare) is that she really gets to know her clients, her colleagues, her peers, and the Courts. She can see the positive side in terrible situations, where she then uses her Southern charm and her bright intelligence to work through problems. She is the perfect fit for family law cases.

I would recommend Van Horn Family Law enthusiastically and without reservation to anyone who finds themselves in the unfortunate circumstance of needing to go through a divorce. The staff of Van Horn Family Law was incredibly supportive, knowledgeable and professional when I was going through my divorce. It was comforting to work with a firm who not only offered legal counsel and advice, but also prayed with and for me. Although sympathetic with what I was going through, they were professional and realistic about what was likely to occur within the confines of Colorado divorce law. They helped me to navigate this slippery slope as easily as possible and my outcome was better than I had feared. Van Horn Family Law is a firm that has the rare ability to balance the personal and emotional side of divorce with the legal and realistic side. I felt fortunate to have been represented by this firm during one of the darkest seasons of my life.

Mr. Silvertrust helped me out several times with crafting "legal-ese" pages for some contracts I needed assistance with, and also with counseling me on separate legal matters, for which he went out of his way to research creative solutions. I also know that he is an excellent listener, problem solver, and member of the exclusive Tristate Bismark society for exceptional barristry. On one occasion he helped me rebuild my spaceship console, during which he advised me on matters pertaining to the legality of regenerating Velocirapator DNA in the lab. I am very grateful for his delicate expertise on the subject.

On my first court appearance, I was offered a rediculous deal which included prison time. Mrs. Kumaus explained the situation and moved to take the situation to trial. I ended up taking a deal with probation. She not only faught to have my charges removed once in the court room, but tried five different dismissals. She is a very good lawyer and believes in fighting for the rights of her client no matter what situation is behind them. I appreciated her empathy and her respect for what I wanted. If you do get her as a lawyer rest assure that your in good hands when offered your final plea. Thank you again for your help

When I was going through a divorce a friend recommended Attorney Burnham and after interviewing 3 different attorneys, I found her to be the one I felt most comfortable working with. As a woman, I felt totally supported by her. She was well informed and kept me informed along the way. She was empathetic when I needed her to be, and I always felt totally confident in her ability to represent me. She encouraged me to stand up for myself at a time I was very emotionally fragile, and I will never forget her for guiding me through the court system in a tough divorce that ended up having a very positive result for myself and my children, largely in part to Attorney Burnham. I highly recommend her as a divorce attorney.

Tina is one of the finest lawyers I have worked with as her client in my divorce, and also in comparison to many attorneys I worked closely with as a professional businessman for 40+ years. She is patient, thoughtful and she keeps you informed all along the process. Her years of experience are apparent, she seeks to understand your needs and she cares about you as a person. Highly recommend Tina without reservation as a divorce attorney, a mediator or on any Family law matter.

Mr. Land helped me through a custody battle that was over two states and lasted over 10 years. I had a vicious and litigious ex-husband. The thing I liked best about Mr. Land is that he is always calm, does not tell you what you might want to hear but tells you exactly what to expect. I've worked with lawyers that like to get you inflamed so you will spend more time in litigation. Mr. Land was able to get this case closed!

I hired attorney Huff to handle a custody case for me and she did an excellent job in providing services . She made sure I understood all of the letters that were sent to me and if I had any questions she made sure I understood them . The billing invoices were sent in an accessible format so I could read them due to my disability. Ms. Huff did an outstanding job as she gave the testimony in representing my case and the judge awarded full, sole, legal, and physical custody . I would recommend attorney Huff to any and everyone for her outstanding service

There is so much I could say here. Stefanie told me exactly what I needed to be concerned about, what she was going to be concerned about, and what neither of us needed to be concerned about. She shoveled through my pile of paperwork, all of my thoughts and ideas and eloquently worked with the opposing party's representation. Stefanie also knew what the future would hold for a single mom of three, so she was careful to protect future interests of mine to avoid further conflict. If you want to feel confident about the person that you selected to represent you, you should absolutely hire Stefanie ... I'm sure no Newbury Street fat cat attorney could do a better job!! Ps. I should mention that I had previously used a mediator, and Stephanie was able to clean up his mess…he was established Andover divorce attorney with decades of experience ... Stefanie's comprehension of family law put that mediator's work to shame.

Counsel Ira was a reliable, excellent advocate for me throughout the divorce process. He answered questions thoroughly and thoughtfully. He accomplished this via email and phone conversations. Also, he displays a caring and punctiliousness towards his clients. I can personally vouch and have seen him in action. At times, in intense negotiations, when the parties emotionally break down due to the difficult process, he his calm and continues working for the client. I only plan on going through the a divorce process once. I am forever grateful that Attorney Ira was with me all the way through and afterwards.

I found Jessica through Avvo after I was raped on my college campus. Not only did she help to make my situation at school safer, she continuously checked in on me and recommended numerous helpful resources. These resources entirely benefitted me, she had nothing to gain from them. Jessica is extremely intelligent, empathetic, and, most importantly, great at her job. She answers emails quickly, takes the time to talk to you on the phone for as long as necessary, and is a fantastically eloquent writer. She has been such a big influence in my life, and because of her, I made the decison to be a lawyer myself and do work similar to hers. She has been a role model and a godsend for me and my family. If I could give her more than 5 stars, I would.

Magda is extremely intelligent and detail oriented. Family Court is a tense environment due to angry spouses and opposing attorneys, however, Magda is a sensible and thoughtful breathe of fresh air! Magda helped me refocus on the big picture issues and the process of resolution, instead of the events that led to divorce. Magda possesses both a legal and financial background, and her professional experience was invaluable because my resolution was solely a matter of finances. Magda is easy to work with, timely and flexible, and will listen carefully before giving advice or suggesting options. My best advice for anyone, or any couple, contemplating a divorce is to reach out to Magda first. Magda will help facilitate a difficult process with less emotion and quick resolutions.

When I started the process of getting a divorce, I wanted a lawyer who would both advocate for me and also keep the proceedings as civil and compassionate as possible. I am so glad that I found Joyce. From the first meeting She was honest and clear on the process, the pitfalls and the effort (both financial and emotional) that a divorce was going involve. She kept me informed and was great in dealing with my wife's very difficult and quite maddening lawyer. What I thank Joyce the most for is that when everything was over I was able to look back and honestly feel that I did a very difficult thing the right way. I am so thankful for Joyce and her advice, support and professionalism.

As a legal assistant for another firm, I was really grateful that Attorney Sullivan was representing the opposing party in a family law matter. She was very responsive, she was very knowledgeable about the case, and she facilitated negotiations to the best of her ability, saving my client a lot of time and court fees. I hope to be able to work with her again in the future. I would recommend her to anyone seeking a female attorney in Essex County who will zealously yet thoughtfully advocate for her client's best interests.

Kathy is an excellent attorney with great discernment. She handled a very tough family case for us. She was able to interview the many parties involved family and non family members, as well as other professionals involved. She had clarity on each individual in a short amount of time and was 100% accurate in her assessment of all. Kathy is kind, responsible, insightful, compassionate and has integrity; is always willing to lend an ear and invaluable advice. She will always do what is right, of that I have no doubt. What a Mediation Lawyer Can Do for You

A mediation lawyer specializes in resolving disputes outside of the courtroom through a process called mediation. Mediation involves a neutral third-party mediator who helps the disputing parties reach a mutually acceptable agreement. Mediation lawyers can represent clients in various matters, including divorce, business disputes, employment conflicts, contract issues, personal injury claims, and more.

Unlike litigation, mediation is a less adversarial and more cost-effective way to settle disputes, often leading to faster resolutions and preserving relationships between the parties involved.

When Should I Hire a Mediation Lawyer?

Consider hiring a mediation lawyer when you’re involved in a dispute and want to avoid the time, expense, and stress of going to court. Common reasons to hire a mediation lawyer include:

  • Divorce or child custody disputes: A mediation lawyer can help you reach a fair settlement on issues like property division, alimony, and parenting arrangements without going to court.
  • Business or contract disputes: For disagreements such as contract disputes, partnership conflicts, or intellectual property issues, a mediation lawyer can assist in resolving the matter through negotiation.
  • Employment disputes: Issues like wrongful termination, discrimination, or wage disputes can be addressed through mediation to find common ground and avoid lawsuits.
  • Personal injury cases: Mediation can help both parties agree on compensation in cases like car accidents or slip-and-fall claims without a prolonged court battle.
  • Property disputes: Disputes over property ownership, landlord-tenant issues, or boundary disagreements can be settled more amicably through mediation.
  • Family or inheritance disputes: Mediation can help resolve conflicts over wills or trusts without further dividing the family.

What Does a Mediation Lawyer Do?

A mediation lawyer provides a range of services to help clients resolve disputes through negotiation and mutual agreement. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Representing your interests: Acting as your advocate during mediation to ensure your rights are protected and you understand your legal options.
  • Preparing for mediation: Reviewing the facts of the case, gathering necessary documents, and advising you on potential resolutions.
  • Facilitating communication: Helping to facilitate open and constructive dialogue between parties to clarify points of contention.
  • Negotiating settlements: Assisting in negotiating fair and balanced settlement terms that are in your best interest.
  • Drafting mediation agreements: Preparing the official mediation agreement that outlines the terms of the settlement, which is often legally binding.
  • Avoiding litigation: Aiming to reach a settlement that eliminates the need for a court trial, saving time and resources for both parties.
  • Handling complex legal issues: Explaining the legal implications of various settlement terms in cases with complicated legal matters.

How Are Mediation Lawyers Paid?

Mediation lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the time involved. Common payment methods include:

  • Hourly rate: Charging an hourly fee ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on experience and case complexity.
  • Flat fee: For simpler mediations, some lawyers may offer a flat fee covering all legal work involved in the process.
  • Retainer: In ongoing or complex cases, a retainer may be required as an upfront payment billed against as work progresses.

Discuss fees and payment structures with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand the cost of mediation services.

How Much Does a Mediation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a mediation lawyer depends on several factors, including the case's complexity, the lawyer’s experience, and the time required to resolve the dispute. General cost estimates include:

  • Hourly rates: Typically between $150 and $500 per hour.
  • Flat fees: For simple mediations, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Total mediation costs: Can vary widely, from $2,000 to $10,000 for straightforward cases, up to $10,000 to $50,000 or more for complex disputes.

Always request a detailed cost estimate during your consultation to understand total expenses.

Top Questions to Ask a Mediation Lawyer

Before hiring a mediation lawyer, consider asking the following questions:

  1. What experience do you have with mediation cases like mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in handling similar disputes.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify the fee structure and request an estimate based on your specific case.
  3. What is the likelihood of resolving my case through mediation?
Seek an honest assessment of whether mediation is suitable for your situation.
  4. How long will the mediation process take?
Inquire about the expected timeline and number of sessions required.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
Confirm who will manage your mediation and represent your interests.
  6. Can we pursue alternative dispute resolution (ADR) if necessary?
Ask about other forms of ADR, such as arbitration, if mediation doesn't resolve the conflict.

How to Check the Credibility of a Mediation Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable mediation lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Verify their bar status: Confirm with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed and has no disciplinary history.
  • Look for mediation experience: Review their website or professional profile for specialization in mediation and successful case histories.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Check platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google for client feedback.
  • Ask for references: Request references from past clients familiar with their mediation skills.
  • Check for certifications: Look for certifications from organizations like the American Arbitration Association (AAA) or the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR).

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To maximize the effectiveness of your initial meeting, bring the following:

  • Relevant documents: Any materials related to the dispute, such as contracts, emails, financial records, or court filings.
  • List of key issues: A detailed list of the main points of contention that need resolution.
  • Timeline of events: A chronological account of events leading up to the dispute, including prior resolution attempts.
  • Goals for the mediation: Be prepared to discuss your desired outcomes and areas where you're willing to compromise.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Any queries about the mediation process, fees, or their approach to dispute resolution.

Being well-prepared will help the lawyer assess your case effectively and provide the best possible advice for resolving your dispute through mediation.
