I was referred to Thurswell Law by another law firm. I spoke with an attorney by the name of Nadia. She listened to by story, and asked some questions. After gathering information, she explained why my malpractice suit would be a challenge to win. I so appreciated Nadia taking the time to explain the law and why they could not take the case. She was very thorough and was kind enough to answer my questions without making me feel rushed. She treated me like a human being not just another case. I did call another law firm, they never let me speak to an attorney and just said, we don't want the case with no explanation of why. I would recommend Thurswell Law as I believe they will do the right thing by their client.

I contacted Thurswell Law because my wife had been misdiagnosed by the University of Michigan. The misdiagnosis caused the U of M to leave a large mass in my wife's abdomen for about a year before they discovered it was stage 2 ovarian cancer instead of stage 4 bladder cancer. At that point the mass was finally removed. Unfortunately, the cancer was now incurable and took her life. The treating oncologist described the misdiagnosis as a huge error by the pathology department. He stated that he was in the tumor board meeting and heard everything that was discussed. He would not give us any other information as to how the error happened. In September of 2020 I was assigned an attorney named Euel Kinsey at Thurswell Law to represent my wife's estate in a malpractice lawsuit. He told me he was assigned the case because he had a great deal of experience in medical malpractice. Euel said we could get a meeting with the U of M doctors who oversaw the oncology and pathology departments and they would give us honest answers about my wife's treatment. The zoom meeting with the U of M doctors happened in late March or early April of 2021 at least 6 months after I signed the letter for Thurswell to represent us. To the best of my knowledge Euel had done nothing else on my case up to this point. During the zoom meeting Euel sat there like a bump on a log and asked no probing questions. I know he had not even read the records I sent him in the six months before the meeting because I had to tell him which pages to look at for questions he had.I had even highlighted most of the issues he had questions on. I asked for a copy of the zoom meeting but Euel said he did not record it. Why? The only other thing Euel did in the year he was supposed to be representing us was to hire a pathologist to review the slides of my wife's biopsies. He only did this as a means to close my wife's case on which he had done basically nothing for a year. He hired the pathologist to do the pathology only by a microscope. This is the same shortcut method that the U of M used that caused my wife's misdiagnosis . Euel knew the misdiagnosis was caused because stains which are much more accurate were not used. Why would he hire a pathologist to use the same failed method unless he didn't want to know. Euel never subpoenaed the doctor that knew all of the facts and was in the meeting where the pathology error was discussed. He definitely did not follow The Michigan Rules Of Professional Conduct which require an attorney to 'act with commitment and dedication to the interests of the client and with zeal in advocacy upon the client's behalf." Lastly, at the termination of the no effort investigation, Euel coldheartedly told me what a great pathologist the person was who took a shortcut that caused the misdiagnosis that eliminated my wife's chance to live. He continued to the point that I told him to be quiet. I will never forget his laziness, arrogance and lack of professionalism. I recommend you consider another law firm if you have a malpractice issue Michael J Bazelides Reply to Thurswell: Your firm also originally rejected my wife's claim. New facts came to light and Thurswell willingly took the case. At that point under Michigan Rules Of Professional Conduct Thurswell owed us a thorough and prompt investigation. Euel held the case hostage for almost a year. During that year he only took one investigative action , which was to hire the questionable expert. I wish he had made that phone call in a timely manner. If he concluded, within a month or two of actually working on the case, that he did not want to pursue the case he could have withdrawn timely so that we could have hired an attorney who had some empathy, passion and energy. I would never recommend Thurswell Law to anyone. I called Euel about every two weeks over that year to try to get him moving with no results. What good would it do for me to call you now that the statute of limitations expired? Thank you for the sympathy concerning my wife's passing.

Warning, do not retain this legal service until you educate yourself. I was injured in an auto accident and thought that the person who recommended Mr. Thurswell had my best interest in mind. It took almost a year and a half for them to file my claim. The lawyer that was assigned to my case left the firm, and I was not informed until I called to check the status of my case. If you’re not a high profile person and expect to be treated like a human being, don’t retain this lawyer. He may seem nice during the initial consultation, but he will change hats on you very quickly. When I called to check my case status, he acted as if I was getting on his nerves. It wasn’t like I was calling him everyday. I let a few months pass before checking on my case again which was almost two years after retaining him. He was very abrupt and told me to call him the next day. I did, and when I spoke to him he told me to hold on, and he transferred me to another lawyer without introducing me. I had to explain my case to the new lawyer. The new lawyer missed court dates, and my deposition was rescheduled. I showed up at court as instructed to, the judge and my lawyer was not there. When I called the law firm to ask what was going on, I was informed that the judge dismissed my case, and referred it to a third party mediator in Macomb county. My accident happened in Wayne county. I had a strong feeling that my attorney, my insurance company's attorney, and the defendant's insurance attorney were working together against me. No real representation. My case was settled for a low amount, and the lawyer did not secure my lifetime medical benefits which all auto owners are entitled to. Please ask about these benefits before settling your case. If you don’t ask, they will not tell you. As long as they get a third of your settlement amount and whatever extra they get under the table for working against you, that’s all that matters. Because there's no way ethical lawyers are aware that a client will have lifelong physical problems and coerce them into settling for an insulting amount of money knowing they won't be able to get future medical expenses paid. I haven’t been able to go to physical therapy since 2010. Your regular insurance will not pay for accident-related injuries. Don’t get distracted by someone’s high profile position or fancy office, and think they’re concerned about you. If you get a feeling that something else is up, walk away. My mother also went to this law firm years before I did when it was under another name to file a wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of her deceased brother. The lawyers stopped communicating with her regarding the settlement conference date and trial. They settled the case without her permission. When I contacted the lawyers who were in charge of my uncle’s case, they stated that after 7 years files they don't have to keep files. Copies are at the court. The main lawyer could have retrieved a copy, reviewed it, and explained what happened, but he didn’t. These lawyers prey on the legally ignorant because they know that the average person does not understand the law. So they withhold valuable information and tell people they don’t have to show up in court. Be proactive in inquiring about court dates, insist on showing up so you can hear what‘s being negotiated, and hold these lawyers accountable to fulfilling the agreement terms. If you don’t, you may end up being swindled out of a lot of money. They fix the statute of limitations to a few years, and unfortunately by the time you figure out that you’ve been duped, it’s too late to file a legal malpractice claim. Don’t be fooled into thinking that your case is only worth a few thousand dollars. Make them explain how and why cases they advertise in ads or on their website settled for hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars. Wake up, pay attention no matter how much pain you‘re in, and make them work legitimately for the money they get from your case. Retaining this law firm was a decision I regret I made everyday since 2008. My benefits were not preserved.
