If you need an attorney I highly recommend North Star Criminal Defense. After initially emailing them I was contacted by an attorney (James Gempler) who was incredibly prompt at contacting me and even offered to make time in his schedule meet with me the same day. The entire staff was helpful, highly knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. My attorney was reassuring throughout the whole process and all of his advice was excellent. He seemed legitimately invested in, and was ultimately successful in obtaining the best possible outcome for my case. The fee was reasonable, especially for the quality of the service provided. Overall my recommendation is, if you need legal representation do not hesitate to contact North Star. Update: May 2019 a close friend was arrested and asked me to contact a lawyer on their behalf. Since I was already acquainted with North Star Criminal Defense I contacted Mr. Gempler. Despite it being around 8pm on a weeknight he responded almost immediately. Because the arrest took place in Iowa where he is not certified he could not represent my friend, but he still took the time out of his evening to check if he had any colleagues in the area of the arrest that he could recommend and asked his partner to do so as well. Furthermore he took the time to thoroughly explain what he was able to do, and recommend what courses of action were available even ones that didn’t involve himself. Professionalism and service of such quality are hard to come by. The fact that he remained so helpful despite knowing he would not be able to represent my friend and was unlikely to benefit financially from the conversation he had with me is a testament to his character and is one of the many reasons I would not hesitate to recommend North Star Criminal defense to anyone in need of legal services.

Never been in the system and being an immigrant with permanent residency pending for approval. I landed in problems all because of myself and caused angst, anxiety, embarrassment for all of my family here and my parents abroad. I reached out to the best known attorney and he calmed me and my spouse that he will get us out of the trouble and avoid any hinderance in our green card processing. But I did not use to hear back from him and we were in a contract with him. After some follow ups the attorney told me that I can fire him any time, I do deserve what I did and he basically backtracked himself. He was too high in his head that he is the best but without any communication to me, my anxiety level was very high. So I had no other option but to fire him. I asked for his time and he took out time to meet me in person free of charge in the same week. he is very calm, supportive, understanding and upfront with what he can try to achieve and does his best. He helped articulate the situation and helped us not to get in immigration deportation proceedings and many cascading things could have happened with our life turned upside down. Being an immigrant domestic violence is a criminal offense and is a direct deportation from ICE. I did not even know what was domestic violence other than me raising hand someone and hurting them. In this case I caused fear to my family and others and Mr James led my case and I was promptly informed for what I should do and his continued belief on what he could do. So now when I look back in time, I can not thank enough to Mr James and his assistants for helping me get through the most entangling crisis of my life.
