I have hired Mr. Rempel for several issues through the years. He is knowledgeable, personable, reassuring, PATIENT (with my never ending questions..), SKILLFULL having many years of experience. He knows his way around the courtroom. He thoroughly explains the process. He it attentive to his client. He took on a case for my son after he had gotten into a fight at school and was able to obtain the best possible outcome for him.

Mr. Rempel helped me get through the whole legal process during a very difficult time in my life. He listens, understands, gives good advice, responds quickly and is punctual. He ran circles around the plaintiff’s lawyer which made me feel like I had the best representation I could get. If you want a lawyer who’s honest, engaged and rock-solid then look no further than Mr. Rempel.

Being married for 15 years and being the only documented money earner in the marriage, I knew this was going to be a challenge getting divorced and still retaining some minimum lifestyle. Mr. Rempel was very up front and honest from the very beginning. He told me how the process would evolve and what we would do when. He handled very efficiently a bogus Domestic Violence accusation against me in the middle of the divorce proceedings and was always there to represent me when I needed him. The impressive aspect of Mr. Rempel and his excellent assistant Melissa, is that they worked for you, their client. They were not out to take as much money from you as they could but they worked efficiently, quickly, and very accurately to get the process completed. I would highly recommend Mr. Rempel and his staff to handle any divorce or domestic violence issue.

Over the years, Joe and his staff have been by my side, helping me every step of the way with some business issues that I had. From an honest consultation to cleaning up liens that were left over from a multi-state bankruptcy. His knowledge, kind demeanor and resources are what make him great. I highly recommend this law firm. If you are reading this, then you probably need to consult with him. Bankruptcy is a difficult decision and Joe lays it out honestly. It may be the best decision you have ever made.

Maria Ann Stork is a seasoned professional who expertly represented us in court. From our initial consultation to our last court appearance, Ms. Stork was extremely knowledgeable, thorough, and competent. Ms. Stork also has a very personable and warm manner, which put us at ease throughout our highly emotional case. It was evident to us that Ms. Stork was well respected, and deservedly so. She and her office staff were truly a pleasure to work with. We had a very favorable outcome, and couldn't be more pleased. We highly recommend Maria Ann Stork.

Rodney Alberto handled a matter for me, and he did an excellent job. His paralegal, Liz was on top of her game as well. I was under some serious time constraints, and she even came in on her day off to get done what needed to be done! I felt very comfortable with Mr. Alberto and his office- they made me feel like a priority. I highly recommend.

Needed help with gaining US citizenship. After reading some reviews my husband and myself went in to Alberto Brothers firm. Roderick answered every question we had, walked us through every step of the process and presented us with different payment options. After hiring them they stayed in contact with us, I called for additional questions a couple of times as well. They helped me prepare for the test, even gave me a practice meeting days before the offical one. Throughout this process there staff was extremely helpful, knowledgeable and professional. I would highly recommend this firm and would definitely use them again.

The Alberto Brothers helped us in the purchase our first house. Rodney was diligent in making sure we had the best representation and received the best deal. Most importantly, he made sure that we understood each step of the process and took the time to explain it thoroughly before proceeding. We will recommend anyone we know to the Alberto Brothers for their real estate needs.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Forked River, New Jersey?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
