Lucas led the owners of our company through a very complicated and emotionally charged transition. He skillfully navigated an incredibly complex situation that easily could have devolved into chaos, but instead resulted in a solution that left all parties satisfied and relationships fully intact. Look no further, hire Lucas now.

10 years ago i saw mr. mihuta in rensselaer county court and he was the only lawyer that argued with the judge for his client. other attorneys i witnessed agreeing with the da. Mr. Mituta wouldnt take anything less then the best for his client. i was impressed then and started to retain him. I have used lucas over the last 10 plus years for various criminal court proceedings, to surrogates and most recently my personal injury case which went to trial. During trial i was so impressed with his knowledge of medical that i asked him if he had a medical degree as well. he actually had the doctors re think what they were saying and his style had the jury do anything BUT fall asleep. even the judge said he was looking forward to lucas keeping him awake. he was so impressive with his closing arguments he had me crying and moved the jury to a favorable outcome. Hes friendly, impressively knowledgable, understanding and most of all not judgemental in anyway. lucas generally cares for his clients and will work hard to make sure he gets the bests results for you. stop looking for attorneys. i swear you hit jackpot with mr. mihuta, your in good hands and worth every penny.

Lucas helped me at a time in my life in which I found myself in a precarious situation filled with stress and worry. I had never been through this process and I thought the results were dire and would affect my life moving forward. Right from the very start he was honest, compassionate and incredibly insightful as it relates to every particular step moving forward. Most importantly his level of communication was stellar. I knew from the start that Lucas was the very best person I could have had acting as an advocate. In the end I was absolutely stunned by the results. Exceeded even my wildest expectations. The guy saved me on something where I thought I was doomed. I cannot recommend Lucas Mihuta enough. His counsel was tremendous and I couldn't l have been luckier I had him as my attorney.

Lucas represented me in a personal injury case after the vehicle I was driving was hit by a drunk driver who crossed the double yellow line. The opposing insurance company was very difficult to work with and tried to stonewall and stall the case numerous times. But Lucas never gave up and fought tooth and nail for the settlement that I deserved right up until the end. All the while he kept me well informed and was always a pleasure to speak too. I cannot recommend him enough!

Lucas is an excellent lawyer. He is intelligent, thoughtful, and incredibly hard-working. He is straightforward, strategic, and practical and he communicates in a way that makes understanding the process so much simpler. It is easy to build trust and rapport with Lucas . Lucas represented me in a personal injury case in which I was the victim of an automobile accident. The road to recovery was difficult and I cannot imagine how much more difficult it would have been without Lucas. I always felt safe and protected and it freed up a lot of mental space in my life to focus on healing. Lucas and his equally fantastic assistant Rebecca secured me a settlement that was far beyond my initial expectations. Their compassion and empathy was invaluable at a time when I needed it most. I cannot recommend Lucas and Rebecca enough.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Albany, New York?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
