The Young Law Group is an awesome firm that I retained in December 2018. Since becoming a paraplegic 23 years ago, I have had four mortgage lenders during the foreclosure process. I had the pleasure of working with Matthew and Justin, who were very accommodating, personable and professional throughout the entire process. On May 28, 2021, I received a phone call from Matthew informing me of the news that I, my family and friends had been praying for. They won me my mortgage free and clear. My experience with Young Law Group was stellar. I chose them after reading an article in Newsday about a Central Islip couple they represented whose home they won mortgage-free. Because of financial and lifestyle reasons, it was imperative that I win my case. I needed a law firm with a proven track record of winning cases like mine. I will always be grateful for Young Law Group for helping me achieve this long-sought goal. Matthew was always responsive to any questions or concerns I had about my case. I remain awed by Justin's virtual summation to the Appellate Court amid the Covid-19 pandemic. He rattled off case law like the Rain Man and the justices had no questions, which was not the case for lawyers who preceeded him. As a satisfied client, I wholly recommend Young Law Group to homeowners seeking relief.

Justin and Eugene successfully completed a foreclosure defense for us about a year ago that I had been fighting pro se for about a decade. We hired Young Law Group to get our final dismissal, because the stakes were so high, and we wanted to have the best possible chance at winning (good chance I would have made fatal mistakes!). They were absolutely excellent in all ways – very professional, extremely competent, and wonderful to work with. I had evaluated many different attorneys around New York State for years, reading thousands of different decisions and case documents. I had spoken with at least a dozen other attorneys, and looked at their pleadings, often finding problems or missing important defenses. But pleadings written by Young Law Group attorneys and paralegals were always sharp, concise, and error-free, yet also thorough in raising their best defenses and arguments. I can assure you, there is nobody out there better than Justin Pane and Young Law Group. Thank you again, guys!

My husband and I, hired Young Law Group to help us save our home from foreclosure. We first met with Mr. Eugene, tearfully I explained all that we had been through in trying to save our home. This young attorney listened to my words and looked at my tears. He took notes, asked questions, as well as reviewed all the paper work and bank certified documents we had. He then said he would take our information to the lawyers of the law firm. Next we met with Mr. Mathew, he was just as endearing and thoughtful as Mr. Eugene. Mr. Mathew listened to us, reviewed what Mr. Eugene had told him about our case. Mr. Mathew explained to us what were were up against. He did not sugar coat anything, however he spoke to us in such a way, we knew he and the other attorneys would fight for us. My husband and I explained again the years of effort and money we put into trying to save our home from foreclosure. Mr. Mathew was realistic, yet determined to help us. He reassured us that the lawyers at the Young Law Group would fight on our behalf. The Young Law Group, worked hard on our behalf and successful save our house from foreclosure. With one hurdled down, the next hurdle reared its head. We met with Mr. Pane who explained to us, what the next hurdle was. He talked o us and again reassured us that he would directly work on this hurdle. Mr. pane kept us in form every step of the way. Having the courts shut down due to COVID-19 delayed us. However Mr. Pane and the Young Law Group, worked on our behalf with successful out come. I cried when Mr. Pane called me to let me know the resolution of our case. My husband and I would recommended every family fighting to save their home, to contact the Young Law Group.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Bohemia, New York?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
