This attorney is the worst , she mishandled my case dragged it out and made everything difficult. She also has no communication skills, I would call for advice on a emergency situation and she left me stranded and it hurt my case . The most disturbing part of it she works with the opposite party attorney, that attorney then fabricated the information in court to help hurt the case. This attorney drinks as well. It’s visible her patience with her clients are defensive, she makes you feel less than. She’s irritable and lazy. She doesn’t care about children well-being. To add if you’re pretty woman she will make you very uncomfortable stay away!

Ms.Ibok represents my 3 young children in family court and I am Pro se. She communicates with the respondent's attorney and refuse to communicate with me after I've made several attempts to reach a compromise (the respondent is the paternal grandmother who gained custody of my children by default on my part and consent by the father). Ms. Ibok was bought on my case after the prior children's attorney withdrew after I exposed her to her supervisor for misrepresentation. Ms. Ibok unfamiliar with my custody case requested NO contact for myself & three young children 8, 7, and 6 at that time. Now their 9, 8 & 6. I haven't seen or spoken with my kids since 1/17/18 to present day nor has the father. On one occasion I visited her office it was May 22, 2018 and when the receptionist went to get her she came out and saw it was me and she said curtly " you can't come to my office" closed the door and walked away ; prior she consistently ignores my emails. I filed a motion to show cause to recuse her for her incompetence and conflict of interest. She has NOT represented my kids properly, they do NOT want to be alienated from their parents and has ALWAYS maintained that via supervised visits w social workers and court reports and ACS. Still Ms. Ibok works along with the respondent and her attorney ALL are seniors. My children are being neglected by the pgm( paternal grandmother) and Ms. Ibok fails to advocate for reunification of my family DESPITE the fact BOTH parents do NOT have ANY abuse allegations and the pgm lost her parental rights for all 6 of her own kids and is currently terminally ill. Ms. Ibok when asked if my kids wanted to see me in court claimed she explained to my kids client and attorney privilege and they are exercising that right. I KNOW MY KIDS AND THAT IS A BLANTANT LIE!!!! if my kids DIDN'T want to see me that would ONLY solidify her REQUEST so WHY on God's green earth she would withhold that information. This is deliberate omission and willful deception and misrepresentation of the facts. She CAN'T even pronounce my 1st born MOSES's name and she speaks incoherently there is no way my kids comprehend her claims. She should be suspended immediately or disbarred.

My husband and I were accused of child abuse in 2014, and Ms. Etta Ibok, Esq. was a court-appointed attorney that represented me. I consider myself very fortunate that I was assigned this particular lawyer. Everything I can say about her is very positive and glowing. She is a consummate professional: very attentive, will not miss small details, which is crucial in building a defense strategy in a case like mine. She will make sure to take time and to explain her strategy and ideas to her client, making certain that they understand fully all the proceedings and outcomes. As a person, she is very sincere, she took my case as her own; it was evident that she took it close to heart and that the outcome of every hearing mattered to her, as it did to me. She was very compassionate and listened to me without judgment. Sometimes I left her office after 10 pm – she spent many hours and late nights on my case, studying it closely, pouring over every detail and preparing me for every question. She is always very organized, with copious notes and she was prepared for every eventuality, not missing a single detail. When she offered to file for a 1028 hearing, no one (including the caseworkers) believed it would work. She believed, and I hoped that it could work. We got the children back before the final ruling. 9 months later, the courts gave us our children back to us permanently and closed the case. Our feelings about her are not to the person that provided a service. We feel like she is a member of our family, and is close to our heart. She gave us our life back, and it happened much faster than is usual for such cases. Everything she did was in my best interest and listening and following her wise advice was the best thing I could do for my family and my own sanity.

Extremely unprofessional during one of our last court dates she was on a conference call and totally neglected to speak with me. Mean while my case case was being called and she didn't respond so while i was inside the with the judge the judge had to call her on the phone to get her off.she also advised me not to meet with professional advisors that the court appointed because"she felt there was no need".also she told me to give up my child to her father because she didn't think i would win my custody case, and all i needed was a modification i already had custody granted through the court. I would never recommend her too anyone! I'm still suffering because of her mistakes.

I was looking for a lawyer to help me with the sale of my first house. I did know where to go so I did an internet search and found Mr. Miller's web site. It was really informative, so I gave him a call. Mr. Miller was terrific and since that time he has been my whole family's attorney. When my wife was injured in a car accident, thank God he was there to help us; when my aunt died he got us through probate; when my son got divorced his firm made sure that things were settled in a fair and reasonable manner. In short, if you are looking for a true family law firm in the heart of Brooklyn, New York, you can ask for none better.

I was recommended to Mr. Miller by a friend when I had some trouble with the police a while back. The police had grabbed me off the street and arrested me for a crime I did not commit - and when I asked to speak to a lawyer - they beat me up so badly that I wound up in the hospital for two weeks. I cannot recommend anyone more highly than Mr. Miller as a top flight criminal and civil attorney. Not only did he prove my innocence, now we are negotiating a substantial civil settlement with the city for the injuries caused by the police. This is why I call Andrew Miller Brooklyn's Best.

I was filled with trust in Aziz Juraev and confidence in his professionalism from the very first consultation with him. This was the first lawyer, at the very first conversation with whom, I had a feeling of confidence in the outcome of the trial. And this despite the fact that he did not promise mountains of gold and did not persuade him to become his client. From the moment the contract was concluded until the judge made a decision, I never doubted my choice. Throughout my journey, Aziz and his team guided me in the best possible way. All documents were submitted on time. During consultations with Aziz and Alexander, I was able to imagine how the court hearing was going and how to behave at it, and I was able to believe that my case was not without hope for success. They instilled in me faith in the American justice system, which can accept even words without indisputable documentary evidence as an argument. All this is possible due to the fact that judges are people too and believe in humanity. At the trial itself, Aziz behaved like a true professional. I am very glad that I made the right choice by choosing Aziz Juraev as my lawyer. I am sincerely grateful to Aziz and his entire team.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Brooklyn, New York?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
