I could not recommend Ms. Browde more strongly to represent you in your legal matters. I had a situation where I had to be divorced and it came without warning. After being yanked around by a previous attorney I consulted AVVO who recommended Ms Browde. She took this very shook up Client, guided me through each step, took care of everything, and let me know she was only one call away whenever needed. In the span of three months the divorce was complete and my life is set right. Hiring Ms Browde was the best decision I ever made. Thank you . Michael D Casabianca RN BSPA CNOR

Barbara Castrataro fought for my children and for my parental rights as if they were her own. She is strategic, quietly fierce and relentless in her pursuit of justice for her clients. Ms. Castrataro’s in-depth knowledge of the intricacies of the law outpaced the opposing counsel at every turn. Working tirelessly for my family since the moment we met, she mounted a carefully orchestrated case and delivered it calmly and effectively. Ms. Castrataro was always accessible to me by phone and email and always had the details of my case at the top of her mind. I will be forever grateful to Ms. Castrataro for her extraordinary expertise, intelligence, kindness, and remarkable ability to always be one step ahead of the opposition. She is exactly whom you want by your side during such a stressful process.

I highly recommend Barbara A. Castrataro. Esq. for any advice and representation on legal matters-particularly those that involve divorce. She was extremely thorough in terms of her efforts to fully understanding the case at hand, and in getting to know each person who would be directly impacted by the outcome or decision in that case. Barbara showed a unique ability to understand interpersonal relationships and go to great lengths to assist above and beyond the normal parameters. She made all the difference in every aspect!

Barbara is not only an excellent lawyer, but also a very concerned, responsive, and reliable person. She was the kind of lawyer that I needed and I am glad we chose her. Barbara believed in my case and put a lot of hard work into revising my petition to include many more incidents that I did not even think about adding or knew that I could. She made my case much stronger and never doubted that we could achieve what I wanted, which was my own protection. She was always very well prepared, even beyond my expectations and could remember every detail. I could completely rely on her, which is most important in a legal battle.

She’s an awful person and only cares about making money and playing with the big boys. She’s part of the Marc Abram’s and Carol Most network.

From my experience, she skewed our conversations to support her decisions. Often she wouldn’t follow parent coordinator protocols; she’d rehash issues that were already decided, engage in lengthy one-one conversations, and broach topics that weren’t hers to decided all of which ended up costing me $20,000 a year. She’d regularly bill three months late and repeatedly promised to bill more timely and never did. She became irate with me when I couldn’t pay and told me that I could open up another credit card to pay her because her husband was out of work and she needed a new roof. She was friends with the other sides attorney and never disclose that to me. They were even Facebook friends. The judge called into question her decisions which she had no supporting evidence for and reprimanded her several times. Thankfully, the judge removed her. Michelle asked if she could stay on even after the judge removed her. Both sides said no. She have to make up that income elsewhere maybe actually work for it.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Chappaqua, New York?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
