I was arrested for DWI and Assault in Fairport, NY. I was a passenger in a car driven by my girlfriend. We had stopped in the road to make a turn and a car rear ended us. The impact was so great that the car was totaled. I had to climb out of the driver side window and that is when the driver who hit us told the Police that I was the driver. The driver of the other car came over to me and started a fight and I had to defend myself and my girlfriend. I immediately contacted Mr. Morabito to represent me for the criminal charges of DWI, assault and traffic tickets. If I was convicted of DWI, I would have lost my job. If I was convicted of assault, I could have been looking at jail time. Mr. Morabito did such an amazing job that all my charges were dismissed at trial.

David Morabito defended my son in a very high profile federal criminal case. The proceedings lasted over three years. During this time David explained everything in terms that we could understand and more importantly David treated my son like his own. This may have been David’s job but it was my son’s life and I feel he went above and beyond to get us the outcome we were looking for.

Dave got all the "false" charges dropped; proved my innocence; and they paid me, instead of me paying them. He's a lifesaver-- literally. I can't begin to thank Dave enough for his professionalism, compassion, and expertise. If you have retained Dave to represent you, then consider it a blessing. He's that good.

I was charged with 9 A1 felony counts. Looking at life in prison. Dave believed in me and my innocence and took my case very seriously. Dave's professionalism and expertise allowed my trial to conclude in a not guilty verdict on all counts. This was only achieved with Dave's expert knowledge of the law. I am so grateful that I chose Dave to represent me. I have my life back due to Dave. I cannot ever thank him enough.

My wife and I consulted with ESQ Pamela Halpin after she was involved in a personal injury motor vehicle accident while at work. After lengthy research and other consultations we decided to retain Pamela because she presented as a professional with expertise in the personal injury arena. As a 33 year veteran of Law Enforcement I crossed and personally dealt with numerous Attorneys. Attorney Pamela Halpin is second to none. We found her to be very Honest, forthright, and devoted to her Clients. We were extremely pleased with the disposition of our litigation and strongly urge anyone looking for a personal injury Attorney to retain ESQ. Pamela Halpin. She was very devoted to our case and more concerned about our welfare then her payday. Thank you Ms. Halpin for a job well done! Walt

Ms Halpin was the ONLY lawyer I called who would even talk to me about my personal injury case, She never tried to fit my round peg into a square hole. She has experience in the personal injury field from both the insurance side as well as the individual client's side. She also has years in the field so is familiar with other lawyers and judges in the area. She was persistent and gave me good advise, always contacting me personally rather than through a paralegal or secretary. I always felt she was doing her best for me.

David got the job done better than I could have imagined. I’m so relieved to have had David’s experience in the court system on my side. I just got a huge weight lifted off my shoulders, because of his incredible knowledge of law (the judge agreed). He’s a super friendly person too, and he gets the big picture better than most. Thank you again, David. I definitely will continue to use your services when needed.

Andrew helped me file a TM for me. I was going to file it myself but wanted to get a second opinion. Andrew went above and beyond what I expected out of my attorney. He is incredibly knowledgeable of the Trademarking process and I look forward to working with him in the future.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of East Rochester, New York?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
