I came to the The Maurer Law Firm after a thoroughly unsatisfactory experience at a large, prestigious firm with a senior partner who mishandled my case. After meeting with Ira and other professionals at The Maurer Law Firm, I felt assured my case finally was in excellent hands, and my expectations were surpassed every step of the way. Even though my case was a modest one in terms of its nature, scope, and potential financial settlement, throughout the entire engagement I felt treated as if my case was one of the utmost importance, which instilled trust and confidence and provided peace of mind. Ira Maurer has a distinguished history of achievement. I attribute that not only to his knowledge, experience, competence, and effectiveness, but also to his impeccable integrity and ethics. These are the qualities that make him an exceptional champion for clients. The other professionals in the firm match his qualities, giving clients the best representation they could find anywhere.

Our family has known Ira M. Maurer for many years, and when it came to hire a lawyer to represent me with my dental malpractice suit I knew he was the one that I could count on to handle my case. Ira, not only that he's a well-trained lawyer in different types of injury cases, he's a real gentleman when it comes to dealing with people. He has always been upfront with me and has never given me false hope. He was able to get me a good settlement and I'm very grateful for that. I don't know what else to say about him, except that when you meet him for the first time you will know exactly whom you are dealing with, and I mean that in a good way. I will always recommend Ira.

The timeline of the resolution of the settlement was right on target. Ira and all the staff were professional and prompt in all communications. The results were beyond what I expected. It was a pleasure to work with someone who maintained such high standards in all aspects of the case, whether communication, negotiation, experience, and ethics. I have already highly recommended his practice to others without hesitation.

I live in WA State. The WA State good ole boy system denies me a WA State attorney in a tremendous case against WA State DOH Administrators and L&I CVCP for their complicit financing of dental malpractice. I am currently in SD with $67,000 dental work coming up courtesy L&I WA State. Last July they added $100,000 to the 2010 $50,000 retroactive cash cap. I have the files. There's a case. A rated brain injury was exploited as was my dental condition in the dental chair as an extension of the assault much aggravation. Timeline for discovery is extended. I have a SD county at fault accident in 89 that broke my jaw, teeth and left hand nearly killed me. Forever changed me mentally and physically. Only just realized it was county at fault recently it dawned on me. I'd like to take them. Have not begun to contact SD attorneys. If any attorney sees this and is interested in taking a glance please contact me. I greatly appreciate the immediate response I received by attorney Maurer informing me he is a NY attorney. I've 1 thing more to say attention AVVO. do not' ever ask me to leave a review without first telling me I need to sign in, understood?

I have to give Michael Farley 5 stars. I was nervous about the process and he answered all my questions no matter how many I had. The process went much better than I expected. He will get back to you personally which I like a lot. I had some issues with the town and he told me exactly what needed to be done and helped me through the entire process. I really feel he goes to bat for you. I was very impressed and I would highly recommend him.

I highly recommend Michael Farley to anyone doing a real estate transaction. He takes your calls personally and the calls are not pushed on to his paralegal. He even returns phone calls after 5:00. I really felt he took the time to explain everything thoroughly when we had our contract signing. Any issues that came up he dealt with promptly and really fought for us. We were very impressed by Michael's knowledge and he is a true expert in his field. I absolutely give 5 stars and suggest anyone who is buying or selling property hire Michael Farley as their attorney.

I cannot say enough good things about Mr. McCormack and his representation of me. His initial meetings really put me at ease, while still being completely realistic about the potential outcomes in my case. He was even more in charge in any court appearances, being respectful, thorough and asking the judge for minimum penalties wherever possible. The worst thing I could say is that he is often in court and couldn't always get back to me the same day I might try to reach him. But he always does respond and is 100% on the case for his client, and the fact that he is so busy says everything about his skills as a lawyer. He comes with my highest recommendation, absolutely the best of the best in the Hudson Valley.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Fishkill, New York?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
