For a Father who has had 5 Attorneys and twice Pro-Se, I believe my review and recommendation about Warren Holds Water. I was going through a Tumultuous divorce and custody battle for 7 years until I met Warren. The divorce process is an extremely stressful and overwhelming experience trying to find the right Attorney. Unfortunately, If you do not have the right one from the get go, things get worse. They all tell you what you want to hear, such as; I know the Judge in your case, I don’t lose custody cases, we need to get you your kid, but it takes time and we have to crawl before you walk. All these Attorneys give you false hope and promises. The Unethical Attorneys which are most of them have their trick. Every Plaintiff and Defendant must fill out a Net Worth Statement, there they can gauge how much they are going to take you for. For me, I did pretty well before my divorce financially. These Attorneys take a retainer from you, do a few things that make you think this Attorney is doing a good job. As time goes on and when you get more involved in the case these Attorneys start neglecting you. They don’t take your calls or respond to your e-mails. Then they tell you when you finally get in touch with them is that now we have to do a motion and that will cost $1500.00 and everything else they can milk you for. They just keep leading you on until you realize after lining their pockets that you are net getting anywhere. Well, that what happen to me until I ran out of money and had to twice represent myself which I DO NOT RECOMMEND. Warren was recommended to me by my Therapist. I made an Appointment to see Warren and he also had his Associate Andrea Scampoli in the conference room. We reviewed my case and also told him that I had 4 previous Attorneys. Now a Lawyer has to think, What is wrong with this person! But after discussing my situation and told him who my Attorneys were which he knew two of them we then began to go over my case. I than hired Warren and gave him a retainer. We started getting down to business and filed what ever motions were needed and Andrea Actually represented me in Court. There is no messing with her. She gets the job done and with in six months I had what I wanted from day one, 50/50 custody. This team represents you with dignity and respect and are sensitive to your situation. They will always call you back and/or respond to e-mails. Warren and Andrea are the dream team when it comes to divorce. I guarantee you will not need to interview another Attorney after speaking with them. Also, once my case was over, I had a credit with Warren and within a couple of days Warren sent me a check In closing, The other Gentleman Rick who wrote a review, I know very well as we both had the same Attorney prior to hiring Warren.

I have been a client of Warren's for the past 5 years. He has personally helped me survive the worst 2 years of my life. His professionalism and dedication to my family is unheard of. Warren was my voice when I couldn't have one; my voice of reason when I was too emotional, and my teammate in so many ways. He was available to me whenever I needed him, including his personal time off. Warren readily responded to my emails and phone calls in a time when I needed guidance and reassurance. Warren is a man of integrity who has fought for what I've believed to be the best for my family and has leveled with me when I was unable to see a bigger picture. He was always prepared for meetings; always preparing for the next step and kept me abreast in all conversations and decisions. I have been blessed to have had such a wonderful man and friend in my corner, fighting to protect my family

Mr. Hoffman was sincere, compassionate and honest during a very difficult time. He listened carefully, answered all of my questions, offered advice and treated me with respect as I navigated through the many decisions I had to make for my children and I. His knowledge in divorce/separation/mediation, the County/State Court systems, judges, etc. were second to none. After hiring Mr. Hoffman, both he and his staff successfully negotiated the best possible settlement for me with no complications and in a timely manner. I highly recommend hiring Mr. Hoffman as your lawyer.

Simply put, Warren is a man of integrity and empathy. These are the traits that make him stand out from other attorneys. Warren's care for his clients is genuine and his dedication to them is unwavering. I hired Warren a year ago to replace my former divorce attorney who was more "talk" than "action" and dragged out my divorce case for 3 years. Warren not only immediately understood and empathized with my personal situation, his over three decades as a matrimonial and trial attorney was a significant factor in resolving my case efficiently and effectively. Very early on in his representation, Warren validated all of the important things that I sought: a true, experienced trial attorney with expertise in divorce law who cared about and attended to his clients. Warren restored my faith in being able to obtain and receive proper legal representation. He made me realize what it was like to be properly represented and to have a true advocate who protected my rights throughout my entire case. I truly feel that if I met him at the onset of my case 4 years ago and hired him as my attorney, my case would have been resolved much sooner. At every meeting I had with Warren, he was always prepared and his undivided attention was focused on my case. Throughout my case, Warren's strategic mindset logically and quickly sees the multiple steps ahead and he devised action plans that he explained to me in a way that a non-attorney like myself can understand. He always treated me as the client with the utmost respect and he made sure it was acceptable to me before he executes on the action plans, which he does so promptly and efficiently. Additionally, Warren always kept me apprised on the status of the case and the next steps ahead. In the courtroom, Warren is also calm and confident, yet he is fiercely persistent in protecting my rights and being my advocate. Furthermore, Warren has a great team that include other attorneys and office staff, many of whom have worked for him for over 25 years. That is a testament to the loyalty and dedication his colleagues have for him that he also gives to his clients. This review has been my most personal and fulfilling. I feel it is important to let others who are in my situation know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and Warren will guide you there. Not all matrimonial attorneys can be an effective trial attorney; however, Warren is both, and that would have made all the difference in the world to me had I hired him at the onset of my case 4 years ago. Warren's reputation and his decades of experience as a matrimonial and trial attorney are admired--and probably feared by opposing attorneys. He has established respectful and professional working relationships with the Courts and other attorneys. Warren is the consummate professional attorney and there is no one better I could have hired to represent me. Warren resolved my case promptly and efficiently, and now I can finally move forward with my life. And for that I am sincerely grateful and humble. Thank you.

He was my divorce lawyer many years ago and did absolutely nothing to help me. Despite that, I got a huge bill. I would not recommend him.

Steven and his team were extremely responsive to my questions and concerns. There was not a time that Steven did not respond to any of my questions the same day. It took 18 months for my case to be settled and he kept in the loop the entire time. If it wasn’t for Steven’s kindness, I don’t think I could have done it.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Garden City, New York?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
