I went through a divorce involving children. It was a very difficult time in my life. I was very nervous at the prospect of losing my children. Hiring chris as my attorney was one the best decision I ever made. It didn't seem to be just a job to him. He was very responsive, always getting back to me quickly and answering my questions or concerns even if my questions were goofy. Not only was he compassionate to the situation but the outcome was better than what I had hoped. If you are going through a divorce, make your situation better and call chris.

I contacted Christopher on recommendation when my mother, after being separated from my father for many years, had received divorce papers. What made the situation more complicated was that my mother had also been recently diagnosed with advanced stage cancer. Christopher, Beatrice, and the rest of the staff were very understanding and handled the case with the utmost professionalism and empathy. When my mother passed a few months later, before the divorce was finalized, I received condolences along with a refund on the balance of the deposit that was not used, reinforcing the honesty in which they carried themselves throughout. I recommend this team with full confidence that they will continue to be honest and professional when handling your case.

Having been in a 14 year marriage with children involved, I knew that getting a divorce would be extremely difficult, and I‘d have a tedious, emotional road ahead of me. I also knew that finding an experienced lawyer was vital. Upon our first consultation I immediately knew I wanted Christopher Palermo to represent me. His approachable, respectful demeanor and knowledgeable, upfront, honest nature gave me confidence. There were times in my situation that I had to make hard and bold decisions. Chris always kept things in perspective for me, reminding me to be strong. I trusted his guidance completely and Chris always delivered in the courtroom. Chris responded to my e-mails within 24 hours, sometimes within the hour. If he was in court, Chris’s knowledgeable and informative staff, Beatrice and Riley, would get right back to me and they were always extremely helpful. In the end, I came out of the divorce with EVERYTHING I wanted. The final agreement was fair and reasonable. I highly recommend Christopher Palermo. I wish I could give him higher than a 5 star rating because he is both a wonderful person and lawyer. I am forever grateful!!!

If I could give them a ten star rating, I would!!!!! I am FOREVER grateful to Chris and his team for helping me through one of the toughest times in my life! I had met with four other attorneys before my initial consultation with Chris, yet I knew within the first 15 minutes, that he was the person I felt truly understood my situation and would help me navigate this process, which I knew absolutely nothing about. And now two years later, I can tell you that's EXACTLY what my experience has been. Chris, Riley and Bea are always professional, well informed, knowledgeable, understanding, patient, thorough and just an absolute pleasure to work with. Choose Palermo Law and you will NOT regret your decision. Divorce is not easy, but Chris and his team will guide you every step of the way.

We used Stephen Palermo when my son, Nicholas had a fall at school. This attorney was amazing. He made it extremely easy to get paperwork signed. I used The Riverhead office. The whole staff is kind and courteous. They got the job done. They are very professional. They got my son a good amount of money for his injury. I would definitely use him again if I need to. Thanks.

Steven Palermo was kind enough to take my case when other firms wouldn’t. After my accident, I didn’t know who to turn to, but when I found Steven Palermo, he reassured me that I had a good case and advocated for me. He and his staff were professional and personable. They treated me with the utmost respect and we won the lawsuit. He was extremely pleasant to work with, as well as his wonderful staff. I highly recommend Steven Palermo to represent you if you are seeking compensation for an accident.

I had case for unpaid overtime and two other lawyers blew me off because it wasn’t enough. They didn’t even know details. I found Peter online , he responded fast and invited me in for a free consultation. He quickly knew all angles to build a decent case. I received a decent settlement in months , NOT YEARS. He is thorough and responsive and gave excellent advice. I don’t usually leave reviews but Peter truly deserves one for a job well done !

The lawyers I have dealt with in the past, have left me with no confidence or security. Mr. Peter Romero was very knowledgeable assertive and proactive. Whenever I called him and left a message, he would always return my call the same day. He discussed my options and answered all of my concerns. I highly recommend Peter Romero to anyone who needs a Labor and employment Litigator. I want to personally thank him for his professionalism and for making my case run smoothly and in a timely manner. Sincerly Bob

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Hauppauge, New York?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
