Having to navigate a divorce this past year was tough, I was rocked and didn’t know where to turn. Robert Montefusco and his office will “have your back”, are always willing to explain the process step by step and will fight for you. I couldn’t highly recommend a practice more that works with you and listens to your concerns. He is by far the best!

After having a lawyer that i felt didn't adequately represent me and had put me in a tough situation. Robert had taken on the case in my opinion on the losing team and was able to represent me and my daughter with our needs as top priority. Also having the case concluded after trial he had throughly reviewed the results and found an error. Then reached out to proceed with correcting the courts error. I couldn’t be happier with the practice and all staff!

STOP! Do Not Look Any Further! Robert is your man! I have been dealing with my ex and her family literally since my son was born in 2011 and them trying relentlessly to get full custody of him. After the first three court fights with a different attorney and trying to appease demands and doing what was best for my son, that still was not good enough. During my 3rd court fight in 2018, I reached out to Robert because I realized this was not going to stop. Even though I had another attorney at the time, I placed a retainer with Robert as well. I knew I would need someone more aggressive for a bigger fight that would come in the future. I wanted Robert to be familiar with my case and to plan for it. Well, that 4th fight came this year (2023-2024), and HE DID NOT DISAPPOINT! Robert has the right balance of aggressiveness, exceptional knowledge, firmness, and negotiating skills. But if push comes to shove, just put your feet up, sit back, and watch! He will NEVER let you be bullied or give an inch on what you legally deserve. So much so, during this 4th court fight, Robert was able to modify my previous court orders (in favor of me), while the opposition filed custody petitions, enforcement petitions, and modification petitions. All of which failed! Robert is still on retainer! Because as of today, the next time/the LAST TIME/the most important time...will be on our terms! Already preparing. DO NOT LOOK ANY FURTHER!!!! Thank you, Mr. Montefusco and Maureen! You truly are who you say you are! Sincerely, Mr. Hampton

A close friend recommended that I meet with Christopher Chimeri, who was kind and patient with me from the beginning to the end of the divorce process. I highly recommend Chris as a divorce lawyer. After dealing with several lawyers in the past, I was reluctant to hire anyone and even attempted to represent myself. However, after those attempts failed, I had no choice but to seek professional help. I’m so glad I found Chris. He managed my child support case with incredible professionalism and expertise. Chris was thorough and knowledgeable about the law, ensuring that every detail was addressed with care. Throughout the process, he consistently communicated with me, keeping me informed about what was happening at every step. Chris made every effort to avoid a trial, showing respect for all parties involved while advocating for my best interests. When the trial did take place, Chris completed it with impressive efficiency, making the entire process as smooth as possible. I couldn’t have asked for better representation.

We used Stephen Palermo when my son, Nicholas had a fall at school. This attorney was amazing. He made it extremely easy to get paperwork signed. I used The Riverhead office. The whole staff is kind and courteous. They got the job done. They are very professional. They got my son a good amount of money for his injury. I would definitely use him again if I need to. Thanks.

Steven Palermo was kind enough to take my case when other firms wouldn’t. After my accident, I didn’t know who to turn to, but when I found Steven Palermo, he reassured me that I had a good case and advocated for me. He and his staff were professional and personable. They treated me with the utmost respect and we won the lawsuit. He was extremely pleasant to work with, as well as his wonderful staff. I highly recommend Steven Palermo to represent you if you are seeking compensation for an accident.

I had case for unpaid overtime and two other lawyers blew me off because it wasn’t enough. They didn’t even know details. I found Peter online , he responded fast and invited me in for a free consultation. He quickly knew all angles to build a decent case. I received a decent settlement in months , NOT YEARS. He is thorough and responsive and gave excellent advice. I don’t usually leave reviews but Peter truly deserves one for a job well done !

The lawyers I have dealt with in the past, have left me with no confidence or security. Mr. Peter Romero was very knowledgeable assertive and proactive. Whenever I called him and left a message, he would always return my call the same day. He discussed my options and answered all of my concerns. I highly recommend Peter Romero to anyone who needs a Labor and employment Litigator. I want to personally thank him for his professionalism and for making my case run smoothly and in a timely manner. Sincerly Bob

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Hauppauge, New York?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
