I highly recommend hiring Penny S. Slomovitz-Glaser. I called Suffolk County Bar Association asking for a Real Estate Attorney in my local area. Having met with Ms. Penney, I was very pleased to hear how she was going to solve my problem and how diligent and efficient she was. I am grateful for all her help in this matter.

I first retained Penny back in 2001 when I separated from my husband of 20 years. Penny prepared our separation agreement which eventually was to become our divorce agreement. Fast forward 15 years and my ex-husband filed against me to be relieved of his maintenance payments. Penny had prepared an iron-clad agreement which held up. She was there every step of the way as my advocate, always responding quickly and professionally to all my questions and calls. We won a three-tier motion which gave me the leverage to negotiate a very positive result for me. I would recommend her whole-heartedly and sincerely appreciate all her hard work and persistence. She was also very fair with her fee schedule and I would use her again in a heartbeat.

Penny Slomovitz Glaser was an absolute pleasure to work with, aside from being personable and kind, she was honest, upfront and fair, not to mention extremely knowledgeable about child custody laws. Even her fee’s were reasonable compared to the other 6 attorney’s I had consultations with before making the decision to retain her as my attorney. Additionally, she allowed me to make bi-weekly payments which I did via a series of post dated checks, and fees were never discussed again. I worked closely with Penny over the last 7 months to go back to court to renegotiate a complex joint custody agreement due to a change in circumstances. I am pleased to say that with her efforts, and the efforts of the other 2 attorneys involved, we just recently settled out of court with a new modified agreement, which I believe was FAIR to all parties involved, but more importantly in the best interest of the child. Penny was easy to work with; at our first meeting after my free consultation I brought all of documentation and evidence supporting my case in date order and I had highlighted the specific things I wanted her to see. The stack of paper was easily the size of a phone book. And paying for the few hours for her to review it was worth its weight in gold. This was all the “work” I needed to do. Penny came well prepared and equipped to represent my case. Penny was diligent and passionate about my case and fought hard for the things I felt were most important to my child’s future and the long term well being. She also reminded me to be forgiving in areas where compromise was an option. Penny paid close attention to the specifics of my case; months after they were discussed she remembered key details in the moments that mattered. I was truly impressed with her knowledge and dedication and am truly grateful for her representation. If I ever need to go back to court, she will certainly be the first person I call!

I would like to advise anyone looking for an attorney NOT to hire Penny S. Slomovitz Glaser as your attorney to represent you. She is far from professional, does NOT fight for you, makes you do all the work, is MONEY HUNGRY and will charge you a ton of money to do nothing, She harrasses you for payment (worse than a collection agency) when in fact she should not even get one as she is a horrible attorney. I wish I knew before hand when I hired her, but I was scared and going through a bad/dangerous situation and she took advantage of that. Anything I asked her to do, she told me it could not be done. She NEVER fought for me to help me protect my family . All she cared about was how she was getting paid and when. I advise anyone out there thinking of using her not to, because she will not help you at all. You are better off doing it yourself before you hire her if you cannot find a lawyer.

From the moment I contacted Rosenberg & Gluck, I was treated like a top priority. Erin Hargis took on my case in April 2016 with confidence, fighting hard for me for over two years and earning me a settlement award that was over double the initial offer! Talented, thorough and effective are all words I would use to describe Erin, but she is also compassionate, responsive and personable. Above all, she made me feel optimistic in spite of my suffering and she assured me in many ways that she and her colleagues were invested in my case and invested in my well being as well. Thank you, Erin! You exceeded my expectations!

Erin Hargis was my attorney for my personal injury case. My case went on for 3 years and for those 3 years Erin was in contact with me the whole time with every step and keeping me updated. During deposition I was nervous and Erin sat with me before hand to go over everything, she made me feel very comfortable with the whole process. Every time I called or emailed her she responded immediately, I was very appreciative of her services, my case is now over and I can say this was a very positive experience. I highly recommend Erin Hargis she is very good at what she does and I trusted her the whole way.

I knew a lot of people who I Talk to and says they were going to use this place and I told them no, My accident was 2009 through a work accident, I was getting Work is Comp, which was helping me, but then it started getting lower and lower and lower. I was getting treatment for my neck which kind of was helping with four bulging and herniated disc in my neck. I didn’t like that I had to show up and not be able to talk to the other side, and tell them my opinion so I never knew what was going on behind closed doors then it became a rush job saying just take their offer because if it goes to the trial. I might get nothing which I wasn’t worried about money. I was worried about medical for my neck 2024 and I still deal with chronic pain in my neck, with bad headaches and nauseousness back-and-forth to jobs because I can only do so much with my arms it triggers my neck and to do jobs without labor, you have to have years of experience nobody wants to train you There are times I’m in bed nauseous and throwing up due to my neck so good luck everybody

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Holtsville, New York?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
