I can’t say enough about Luke. He helped my son many times and took care not of only of his legal issues but also made sure to explain everything to us so we can understand the situation. We never felt rushed, he always answered our calls and messages. He is such a compassionate person.

I'm 48 and my husband is a trial lawyer, so I have been inside a lot of court rooms and I've never encountered a lawyer like Mr. Fenchel. I hired him on a very simple matter but watching him interact with his court appointed clients I realized he is a unicorn... a lawyer that genuinely cares what happens to other people. It is very clear that the judge and DA respect him, but I also respect him for the human kindness he showed not only to his court appointed clients but to their loved ones and to me as well. I can't believe I just handed a lawyer all my money and thought 'wow that was awesome' but here we are. I'm almost glad I got a stone cold sober DUI just so I could know such an interesting person exists. He is so smart careful and articulate I do not think he misspoke a single time, his general policy looks to be to just to outwork everyone and it shows. Eleven stars.

My son was looking at a prison sentence when I first sought help from Atty Luke Fenchel. My son had worked really hard for a very long time in treatment court although not to the satisfaction of the court. Luke worked for an outcome that was better than what treatment court had threatened. He continued to show up in court to fight for my son and I'm thrilled to say he prevailed even over the objection of the DA. The situation started out as a felony, was reduced to a multiple misdemeanor but with treatment needs. Ultimately, through much deliberation from Luke, my son's hard work was recognized by the judge. I am so pleased with the outcome of this case all things considered and the greatest credit goes to the Luke for his determination and genuine interest in my son's future. With Luke's intelligence, knowledge of his field, calm composure but fierce fight, you will not be disappointed. I highly recommend this man!!

Where do I begin? Luc was able to reduce my case to dwai, not even a misdemeanor in no time. He was able to ease my anxiety from the get-go. But what I wasn't prepared for was his performance at court. I knew about his background prior to meeting him and his impressive experience and mastery of his practice truly showed in court. It was as if the courtroom was his "playground" and everyone was just enamored by him. Confident would be an understatement describing him. What I witnessed wasn't just a top lawyer but more like someone who OWNED the court. Most of all, he kept on correcting the judge (very respectfully, humbly, and lovingly, even), where he proofread everything on the spot. He went above and beyond so effortlessly and what came out of it was something super important. He caught the judge's mistake, something that would have been erroneously left on my record. He was able to catch it right on the spot and characterized proofreading as "like picking/cleaning teeth", something along that line and he sure flossed over word for word and caught that right in the moment. I cant imagine how many lawyers would naturally do that for you and so effortlessly, like it was second nature to him, no biggie, no boasting, just like that....was just part of his job when I know for a fact most lawyers would not have gone to that distance for you. If it hadn't been for Luc, there would have been something left on my record because of the judge's mistake wjenobecause all charges were dropped, nothing was supposed to be on my record. I am so thankful to Luc and his incredible staff who follows up with you and makes sure you are taken care of, even after the court. Most of all, as serious as this whole thing was at court, I couldn't help but be absolutely bedazzled by him. He is one of the most impressive, kind, and a remarkable lawyer. One of the other reviewers nailed it, you can see his brain being 5-10 steps ahead of anyone, I would say everyone combined in the room together. I'm glad I was smart enough to see right through where he was getting at, of course 5-10 steps later and say to myself "ah ha! That's where he was getting at w these innocuous questions, gestures, comments..." def a method to his genius if you pay attention and by then, his mind will be another 5-10 steps ahead, explaining everything thoroughly, putting you even more at ease. Thank you Luc and your team for handling my case with the highest standard, especially so effortlessly, speaks volumes about your talent. If I ever come across needing of a traffic lawyer or know someone who does, Luc will def be my first go to, no need to even look elsewhere!

We used Adam twice, when we bought our house and when we sold it. He was a great client advocate and even made himself available on off hours to sign documents for my oft-traveling hubby. He was very quick to return calls/emails, etc. and we knew he was solidly on our team.

Mr. Halpin is a true professional. He was upfront and honest with me in all of our dealings. When we needed to communicate, he always made it a point to get back to me in a reasonable amount of time. His office staff was very friendly and polite.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Ithaca, New York?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
